When I was in 1st grade we had a practice alarm in December. It was REALLY COLD and there was sleet. So 300 students between the ages of 6 and 10 stood outside in the wet and cold weather for over an hour. We were freezing terribly. A teacher yelled at everyone who moved (either out of boredom or to warm themselves or just stretched their necks to look) or made a noise (talking or crying out of fear or because they were cold). She also yelled at me because I had taken a pencil outside that I had in my pocket. I had forgotten that it was there at the time of the alarm and when she discovered it because she was checking our pockets to make sure no one had taken anything outside, she yelled IT IS FORBIDDEN TO TAKE ANY POSSESSIONS OUTSIDE WHEN AN ALARM IS GOING ON! I was so scared. Besides, it would have taken much longer to empty all the pockets inside than to simply take everything that was already in them with us. When we got back inside we were soaking wet. The students were forbidden to wear jackets in class and so we froze all day. The teachers wore jackets though. They said they were allowed to because they were adults and knew what they were doing. Anyway, the following week there was no class because too many students were sick. I assume because of the long standing in the very cold and the class afterwards in wet clothes.
