When you say main seal, are you referring to the seal around the rear PTO that the mower shaft hooks into? If so, that had developed a leak several years ago before I was wrenching on anything and I took it to the dealer to replace. It probably wouldn't be a huge deal. I just wasn't at all mechanical at the time. I think it's probably a common problem at some point on these.
Happy New Year Jeff! Once again an excellent detailed video. I don't have a radiator on my lawn tractor it is air cooled. So many manuals have very poor pictorials to follow / decipher. Ordinarily when the engine is running and the coolant heats up it should expand and the excess coolant should flow into the overflow reservoir. There may not be much fluid movement. Once the engine is turned off the coolant contracts and the coolant should return. As long as the radiator is full and there in some in the overflow reservoir things should be fine. To double check that the fluid is circulating properly turn off the engine once the coolant level has risen and carefully check the bottom hose. It should be as hot / warm as the upper hose. Have a good one!
Guess I didn't understand how the overflow tank worked. I've always just kept my fluid filled between the A & B marks. Every time I use my machine, I have to add just a little to the tank. It seems to burn some coolant. But I have a new thermostat & water pump & my seals are all good. My machine has nearly, 2700 hrs on it.
Yeah that confuses me too. When I fill it to specs capacity it's never in the markings on the manual but my radiator is always full and it never gets too hot on the gauge 😄
Love your channel i just got a 445 and it needs some maintenance. Thank you for your content.
Well you're in the right place, thanks for watching. 😀
@TNYankee2020 Question : have you ever delt with a rear main seal leak, looks like dripping from there and the seal needs replaced?

@TNYankee2020 the seal between the flywheel and the engine where I would need to take off the drive shaft and flywheel to get to it
Your video was very helpful,
Appreciate the comment you’re welcome

Hi Paul, happy new year. Thank you for that tip. That’s a good idea. It’s always been kind of a conundrum to me.
I would fill the coolant to the level JD suggested. Also, I have always run my 445 with 2 qt. of motor oil.
Thanks for providing feedback and watching.

coolant should be between A & B ... A= full hot.... B= full cold
Thanks
