You could run it on natural gas, as most oilfield turbines do. They have incredibly long lives. They can also run on Jet A-1 kerosene, diesel, biodiesel, waste engine oil or home heating oil. You should get a proper exhaust duct and a proper inlet duct, which will make it more efficient.
Have several questions about this power plant. 1. What was this turbine used for? 2. Is there a mechanical coupling and gear reduction used with this? 3. Have you calculated the fuel consumption, liters per hour? 4. What is the power output of the turbine? You have all done a wonderful job with little information. Has Caterpillar been able to supply you with any information for the project? This might be a great power source for producing electric power if it can run economically and can be coupled to a generator.
Thank you for your reply! All very interesting ! Too bad it is not more economical to operate. It would have been an excellent power plant for energy production if attached to a gen set. I see several You Tubers in the UK are into working with older aircraft APU's just for fun and the challenge to get them to run. Keep up the great work on your project and again thank you for answering my questions.
@@Subgunman 350kw = 350,000w..... hello that is enough to run like 200-290 homes. but there are much smaller turbines out there for the use you were looking for.
You can still do it if you change the fuel to biogas/biodiesel or hydrogen. Also connect the exhaust to a boiler to generate more steam and then power. You can multiply this 1mw plant to a 3.5mw plant using the same fuel. You sell power at least 4-5tiimes the cost of fuel. Plus it becomes a renewable energy cogen plant. Any investors will also be welcome in a setup like this for UK. Please what software is that and how can I get it.
The catapillar 553 was used in the swedish army's strv 103 in the later variants, so its very likely it was taken out of a stridsvagen as it was being decommissioned.
Next time you make a paint booth. Put a inline fan with a double filter. With the intake at the bottom and the exhaust in the top. So air is always coming down on what you are painting. With any dust etc. Being pulled into the filters. Good luck on all your projects. 👍🏻
thank you so much for making this in English. fantastic video!

You forgot it can run on gasoline and alcohol too.
Interesting I have been a aviation mechanic for 26 years, last 16 helicopters. I didn't realize that Caterpillar made turbines.
Nicely done. The electronics box , especially, I thought was impressive!
Very tight, professional build on electronics side. Well done!
@@TyMoore95503 thanks, Thank you, but we have redesigned the electrical system when we did permanent installation for a water brake

It was probably pulled from an Strv 103 tank.

Centrifugal-flow (radial) compressor
As a A&P mechanic. Replace the copper tubes with stainless steel. The gauges should read in percent of RPM, EGT , TOT.
thanks for the new video with english
Must have been from a S-tank (stridsvagen 103c)
Yes
Great work and thank you for the translated version.
Well done. The team would have learned a lot from that project.
That's right, this project has given us a lot of knowledge about gas turbines.
Very Clean project, nice!
Caterpillar gas turbine, in my head I'm converting a digger or dumper to be jet powered. That would be cool (or hot) as fuck 😎
How many gallons to the minute of fuel to run it ?
At full load about 1 US gallon per minute
what kind of fuel your using remember gas turbines use kerosene
Whats the power output?
great video - wo is the music by ??
Does anyone have a serial number or prefix for one of these engines?
från Stridsvagn 103?
***** tack
what is this from? what was it used for?
The gas turbine has been installed in a tank and it has been a project work for the student to be able to do laboratory work.

This was originally a Boeing design.
When was Boeing in the gas turbine business?
@@jamesw1659 Boeing was in the 50s-60s. Boeing T50 for ex.
3:35 Holy crap Turbine burst of fire
So does this go into a Cat 553 Feller Buncher? Or is the turbine named a 553?
Please let us know alternative fuels.
Thirsty bugger... goes through a can quickly :-)
Barbecue grill? Not good, man. All that heat is wasted energy.
Now put a generator on it :)

I love the sound of turbine engines. TOO BAD YOU RUINED IT WITH STUPID GODDAMN MUSIC!!!!
Couldn't take music loop left after 2 min sorry
Not beautiful
Not gorgeous
