    I would love to hear about baffle wall. Will it be logic to install flood standing speaker in a baffle wall to benefit from the clean look of acoustically transparent wall and have the benefit of good sound quality. If I can build myself a false wall 18-24 inch. Does it represent an advantage over in wall, on wall or regular floor standing speaker? Can for sharing your thoughts

      yes always great to use all floor speakers...people do it all the time. They make great center ch speakers too

    Great Summary. Straight to the point. One more remark. In-Walls work best in wooden Wall structures, where there is enough air-space carved out behind of them (of course) - because in the end you are creating an in-wall cabinet, before mounting the in-wall drive units. Most high-end manufacturers of in-walls (KEF, Focal, Perlisten) provide the specs for optimal air-volumes for their respective in-wall products. If you have the option of doing that (as I did) you are coming very close to the Floor-Standing counterparts. Btw: Adding a SUB (parallel) to the center-speaker in ADDITION to 1/2 SUBs for the Mains, is doing wonders for clarity & punch to your movie sound .-)

      If you have the option to make an in wall an actually speaker...or with their own back boxes like I did..that's great. I love it.

  • @lovologist

    Have you ever had an in-wall speaker that you made a box to use as an on-wall speaker? For example the Martin Logan Tribute 5XW has an optional on-wall mounting box but unavailable for their lower end in-wall models like the Motion XT series. What is your opinion on making on-wall boxes for in-wall speakers?

    • @TheaterAdvice_FCAV
      @TheaterAdvice_FCAV  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No time for that personally but as long as you know air space needed easy to do. I've seen it done..I sell brands that sell boxes to make on walls. Easier. But if you can...sure. Makes them better for sure.

    Hi David, thank you for providing your honest feedback from my comment about screen selection for a HT I am building, after watching your projector comparison video. 1st, you mentioned in that video Black Diamond screens, but are there other screens you recommend / suggest, or any dark (black) screen simply better than white? As for speakers and why I am here (room is 15x20x9 but the last 2 feet I have a box (2'x5') in back center of the room for fireplace pipe) as my space is limited I was thinking of Focal 300 LCR and Focal 100 for remaining 6 surrounds and their 100 line for the 4 ceiling Atmos. This room is on the 2nd flr above the living room, with 2 bdrms to the front & back of the room. I will be soundproof the room by decoupling my walls and ceiling and adding 2 layers of sheet rock with green glue. Found some products for the floor, which I hope will help as I will not be able to decouple the ceiling below. I was going with inwall due to size of the room and to maximize my space. Looking at 150' 2.4.1 screen with speakers behind them and 2 subs on the floor. You noted "onwall" speakers, which I was thinking were large bookcase mounted on the wall and did not realize Focal (or other companies) make these slim style speakers. Watching another inwall video (erin audio corner) notes not to get inwall with enclosed back and build your own enclosure. Working with the soundproofing company they suggested building backer boxes from OSB and a layer of greenglue with 1/2 cement board on the inside. I was thinking of doing this building them at 15"W x4'Hx 5"D and decouple this box from the studs themselves. Aside from floor standing, what speakers options would you recommend / suggest? Also in my search for speakers I keep getting Monoprice Monolith THX inwalls, your thoughts on those. Thanks again.

      DIY stuff can do whatever they want...im not selling to them. and I think Backboxes are always better if you do it yourself or not. Your soundproofing seems good. If they are saying that in walls sound better DIY backboxes than the designers boxes they build for exact air space...I think they are ridiculous. If you know more than Focal or Theory etc... I don't think so. just let the speaker companies do it.

    How well do you find it to work when pairing floor standing LCRs with in wall surrounds? I don’t have the space around the room for floor speakers, so in wall has to be the way I go. Do you think for surround/atmos applications it really matters to timber match all the speakers? I strictly watch movies in my media room.

    Fantastic video.
    Does it ever bother you to have a center channel mounted under or over the tv or projector screen? I'm asking because it bothers the heck outta me to hear the center channel not coming from the screen. I like the idea of having the projo screen mounted higher like it is in this video with the center mounted close(r) to ear-level. I really admire how you guys give as much attention to audio as you do video. Seems like most installers focus on video and speakers are the after thought. You guys rock.

      Thanks a lot. We love our viewers. so....Give and take always. If you can't do a good quality AT screen which can be super pricey (I don't like white screens...other videos cover this)..than below it is. If you tilt it up a little it does help image it higher just like a speaker toe in. Behind the screen is perfect sure but wont' sound as good as a big beefy center (unless you spend a ton)...so give and take. Just have to pick what's most important. Having said that...my master bedroom is 5.1...all in ceiling...if you close your eyes it sounds 100% that it's coming out of the tv. Anything can be achieved with a tweak.

    Wow!!! This is by far the best home theater video I have watched. Your honesty and the message are just phenomenon. We appreciate you. My family and I are building a home outside of the US in tropical region with 6-inch solid thick walls. There is going to be a 23-ft long by 15-ft wide theater. After watching this, we have decided to go with floor standing and have a front wiring since we will be doing a regular large TV ranging from 75 to 90--whichever price is reasonable. Would you recommend any particular acoustic padding please? We are planning on 11.2 AV surround sound supported system (Two subs at front, Center, left and right front, two right surrounds, two left surrounds, two back surrounds, and two or four atmos in the ceiling). We would like to add in noise and vibration dampening and if possible, eliminate any echoes and feedback. We are also considering carpet tiles on the flooring but what would you also recommend?

Focal 300 series are good in walls for around that Grand a piece. If you want loud...Klipsch Pro series...great speakers for theater. Hey there. New subscriber here. I was wandering .. I have 2 questions , potentially 2 topics as an idea you might want to discuss. 1.. can you run a home theatre without a centre channel and use the imaging of a good set of L&R speakers to project the image of voices as if you had a phantom centre speaker? I know imaging works great with stereo listening just wandering if by turning off/subtracting the centre speaker will the processor appropriately output the content where it’s suppose to be? Eg voices in the middle. Explosions L&R ?
    Second question ? Can you mount 2 centre speakers - top of screen and bottom of screen ? Is it possible that it might create a pseudo stereo imaging effect where it sounds like the voices are coming from centre of screen. Both my questions are linked in that in both scenarios I’m trying to make the sound feel like it’s coming from the centre of the screen. Yes I aware of the transparent screen I just saw in your video but as space is at a premium I don’t want to push screen forward to hide any potential floor standers/ centre speakers. I definitely agree with you regarding in wall speakers so trying to get the centre sound placement without shrinking the room. Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Either way. Loved your video hence subscribed 👍👍

    • @TheaterAdvice_FCAV
      @TheaterAdvice_FCAV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll add the first to my content list. The second ...yes using a height ch will raise the perceived stereo image of your voice to center of screen . Nothing is as good as localization beng there but it can help. On the first quesiton again.... you can use a center but 4.1 doesn't sound that great beause your speakers are trying to create voices and music at the same time...at times. But I can test it again. We do living room systems like that all the time when there is a fireplace and no place for a center.

    This video was right on point with the stage of planning a new HT room.
    I have the KEF R700 on each side of my 120" AT screen, along with a center KEF R300 speaker. I'm looking to eliminate the look of the center speaker (which is currently in the center sitting on a Large subwoofer. I'm trying to decide if I want to change out my center speaker to a KEF ci3160 in wall speaker, and then add a sub and move both subs to the corners of the room. If yes, then should I replace the R700 with KEF ci3160 inwalls for FCR. If I give up R700 for the inwalls am I going backwards as far as sound quality goes? If I move to inwall(s) I will build a baffle wall with proper base trapping insulation. Looking for your best advice as only you can give.

    I followed all of your sound advice, nice video. I do not have a media room that I am working with but rather a large open family room where the builder added wiring for 4 in-walls pretty high up (2 fronts & 2 rears). For years I had been using klipsch book shelf speakers in a large entertainment center as the fronts, a klipsch 12" sub and bose 191 in walls for a discrete surround sound solution. We just scraped the old tall media cabinet and placed an 86" media cabinet below with an 85" Neo QLED above it. What are your thoughts on using in-wall klipsch 5800 WIIs mounted horizontally above the TV where the bose in-walls used to be and using them as fronts with a klipsch R34C center speaker below the TV on the cabinet? The reason I ask is because even though I own klipsch towers the wife does not want to see those in our main family room living area and those particular in-walls (5800 WIIs) have the articulating tweeter which could be aimed down toward the seating area if mounted horizontally and would act as the new fronts which would be about 7' high.

      Now that is sound advice, lol. The orientation was kind of my concern, but the adjustable tweeters seemed to be the saving grace. An alternative would be something like a wall mount set of fronts that looked more like art piece than a speaker but I have not found anything other than the focal brand speakers. Vertical in walls on each side would not work as there is too much going on in that wall between the studs.@@TheaterAdvice_FCAV

      Hi. Great question. I do believe I talked about that briefly but since they aren't scripted I can't remember. However this video and really my opinion in general is that we stay away from In walls ONLY on the front wall for spacing, stud interference overall look and quality. The rears both in our showroom, in my own home and in almost all our systems are in walls and in ceiling. The importance of those speakers in a soundtrack is far less and really only need to be there and be heard (loud) so the overall quality of the sound isn't as important. Hope that helps.

    A big white in wall…you don’t custom paint them to match the walls? If you can’t do it I’m sure an auto body shop can do it. I’m stunned at how many companies slap in speakers that aren’t painted to match the walls. Use a fine mist spray gun with multiple passes. About an hour to bang out a room ion in wall or in ceiling grills. Dry over night then install. They draw ZERO attention to themselves when painted.

    • @TheaterAdvice_FCAV
      @TheaterAdvice_FCAV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We will do anything clients pay us to do. These walls are white in this room in the video. Sometimes the cleint has vents that are white already and they don't care. I sell Triad color matched in walls all the time ...all over the gallery in the website. I am huge in custom things of al types. Also you can't just get wall paint in spray cans. You can do black etc but SW only sells them in 30 packs and only at two stores in all of Dallas. not that easy but yes we do it. Nothing we don't or can't do if paid to do so and the client wants it.

      @@TheaterAdvice_FCAV I’d offer to paint the vents! You would never use “spray paint” for in wall speakers. Use the same paint as the painter is using and spray them with proper equipment and you won’t clog one hole in the grill. You have great content.

      @@peterfreeman3317 Again im not a painter I am a home theater designer. If the client wants to paint them...they can. I have painters that work for me if they care about that. If they don't...it's their room...we move on. I've painted personally 500 grills in my life. I know how it's done. If they pay...we do. I'd rather sell them triad grills....you can get them separate and are done at the factory. we put them on non Triad speakers all the time too. But we do too many jobs to add that if they didn't pay for that level of customization. You will find on all...or most of my big jobs that they are matched.

      None of what you said makes sense. And what I am saying...which does make sense...si that for same price levels you will get more performance out of an in wall. And NO in wall will sound the same in walls as most walls are different air spaces. You have to spend more to equal the same performance is the point...and im right. As usual.
