    Charlie, I followed your cornbread recipe and it was honestly the best cornbread I've ever made in my life. The aroma sent through the house upon the final minutes of baking was truly amazing. My daughters have never said, "Mom what's that smelling so good?" while upstairs in their bedrooms when I have made cornbread many times! I gotta admit Lousianans got it going on as the best for many wonderful food preparations. Thank you for sharing!

      james jones, Yeah, ......Lol, you right, cuz I got mad at my husband once, for wanting to get me a new phone, and you would not believe the kind of phone I had, it was the year 2009 and I still had a pretty pink flip phone I did not want to part with it, I love that phone, he had to pretend that someone stole the phone from the restaurant, so he could get me a new one, I was mad, slanging snot and crying for almost two months. we can get mad about petty crap. but I'd be to scared to get mad at Charlie, he may stop cooking, my thick ass would start loosing wieght and thinking of extra shit to do, get him cooking again...., baby you want me to go to the store to get some corn meal, naw, I don't mind. I'm not busy at all I'd love to go.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    When you get your skillet, try to find an old one that is already broken in and seasoned, about 10 inches in diameter (usually called a No. 7). If you use the cast iron skillet, pre-heat it in a 425 oven, I use a little more flour and 1/2 tsps of baking soda than you do but it is basically the same when you pour the batter into the skillet, you will have no need to smooth it, just shake it enough to level it, then bake 20-25 minutes or until light brown on top, I often bake mine out of doors in a 3 legged Dutch Oven that has a rimmed lid to hold some coals, it seems to make it taste better, though that might be my imagination. My recipe comes from the Ozark Mountains of Northern Arkansas (the Bald Knob area), and is at least 150 years old, but is basically the same recipe as yours.

      I already have a Cast iron skillet brand new. 10 inch diameter! Wow! a 150 year old recipe is similar to mines! That's something. Thanks for all the tips too! Appreciate it!

    • @donalddenison8896
      @donalddenison8896 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dear Charlie: I'm glad you have a new skillet, just remember to pre-heat and grease it first, cooking cornbread is one of the best ways to break it in, when you remove the bread, just thoroughly wipe out the crumbs, re-heat it on the stove top, use a little Crisco or Olive Oil and wipe it on and then wipe it dry and you are done, Never, Never use soap in it, if it ever has burned on caramelized sugar and other tough stuck on substances, soak it for a while, then use a nonmetallic scraper and a stiff bristle brush to get out the stuck on debris, then just re-heat, oil, then wipe dry. Properly cared for cast Iron will last forever, and will be better at non-stick chores than teflon. Never get it so hot that it warps, and unless you crack it with something like cold milk in the overheated pan when making gravy, your pan will just get better and better with each use.

      Big Papi
      I love cornbread, and these ubiquitous anti-yanqui comments are why I wish there was a good historical reference to when exactly modern southern cornbread became what it is now. It's true that all cornbread made by non-Natives in North Americans came from the native version, which generally included finely ground corn (or Indian meal) hot water, spices and and molasses. It was cooked either dry or slightly fried as a sort of hardtack or hoe cake. Somewhere along the way people in the south changed it around while eastern and more northern people turned to wheat bread more and many left the lowly cornbread behind. The early Brits wouldn't eat it as they saw corn as pig food. So anyway, I wonder when southerners took a. look at their traditional Indian cornbread and said, " from now in the is only one proper way to make this dish and anybody who varies it will be mocked and criticized.. Guessing it was after the Civil War but IDK

    Exactly - true southern cornbread has no sugar added and is not "cake like" that is Jiffy Corn muffins and that is not true southern cornbread. It is corn muffins - add sugar you get cake not cornbread! Thanks for sharing, but you need to make an investment in a cast iron skillet. No taste better and they are cheap and last forever. Cornbread is only cornbread when done in a cast iron skillet. MMMMMMMM

    • @CharlieTheCookAndrews
