I had no idea that parts of the Monkland canal still existed, so thank you for posting. I am old enough to remember it going through Coatbridge and I crossed over it many times. I often wonder why it wasn’t restored rather than being destroyed. Modernity et al

Thank you for an evocative video.
The Monklands Canal is easily the most picturesque part of Airdrie and Coatbridge.
I walk the path regularly and never take the canal’s beauty for granted.
Let’s hope it remains undisturbed so that future generations can enjoy its tranquility. 🤞🏻

Today I walked along the canal. Actually, when I was walking, I thought it was a river, reservoir or something like that and then found out that it was a legacy from the late 18th century when coal mining was huge around the area. Really fascinating.

We see Palacecraig and up to Cairnhill on the left of opening sequences and the Faskine and Woodhall area on the right. This is threatened. It is the last Greenbelt between Glasgow and Edinburgh of any importance .It is historical and archaeologically important. Why should outsiders who do not care about this place ...simply use it as a cash cow. They only want the money. They do not care about the poor and the disadvantaged and the people who NEED it and use it daily for mental and physical health. Let stop them. See Save Woodhall and Faskine Greenbelt campaign. Facebook page. Help save it. Thank you MARTIN KERR for this video. Member of our campaign extraordinary.

Love this video .The whole area of Monklands was built on iron coal and steel with the canal being center to it all. We should all be trying to preserve and protect it for future generations. When you see how beautiful the canal is from Kilsyth / Falkirk why cant that happen here. Monklands is full of history and some lovely walking areas. I live in Kirkwood and love the history of Coatbridge and the canal. But yet again more houses being built in an area which was suppose to be green belt . But like you say outsiders using it as a cash cow .

We love it too...We replay it at various points on the Save Woodhall and Faskine page to remind folk what is at stake. Thanks to Martin Kerr for this one...and all our other videographers too.
