Attention, if you enable hyperthreadingMitigation like in this video, you lose half of logical processors so keep this in mind if you have 2 CPU like me. I have 2x 2690v4 and after that I lose 50% logical processors on both CPU.

Thanks for your question, the latest version is not needed. But it's better to use a VPN connection to connect to your ESXi in private and secure mode.
