    The only thing better than the Abita Springs Opry is the Abita Springs Opry featuring Tuba Skinny. As far as I know this was their 3rd appearance there. Thank you Ms. Alice for filming and posting this! 😊👍👍

    Thank you Alice for the great camera work and sound reproduction. The video captures our favourite band in fantastic form playing a wonderfully upbeat set. My personal favourite is another superb version of Too Much Competition “.

    This is Tuba Skinny filmed at the music festival at Abita Springs. Greg has a guitar emergency that forces a quick exit. But he rallies and delivers a great vocal upon returning. This set was shot by Alice Glick, who always does good work in this venue. The band benefits from having a great audience, sober and enthusiastic! The audience gets a typical TS set with tons of energy.

      Indeed, typical TS set of music that has tons of energy and variety.

    I have watched the other sets that they have done here and the audience just seem to absolutely love them. I remember Erika saying they were the loudest audience ever and who wouldn't be with them on stage, they are quite phenomenal. I can never find anything negative to say about them, just superlatives but my personal feeling is if you listen on good
    equipment I do miss the bass drum but that is also because I miss Erika with them so much,.....but life has to go on and we just look forward to when she does get together with them the other week. I have also said before that Tod had such a deft touch on such a large instrument he has the technique and ability to make the sousaphone sound soft like a string bass.
    What a fabulous band they are and in my eyes there is no one to touch them.
    Thanks for a great video.

    I see a drum set in the background with no one playing it. Hate to say it (because I'm a drummer myself) but this sound great without a drummer. Even so, I'd love to play with these guys. Dixieland is so rare in most of the U.S. today. They really have the feel of this music. Long live Tuba Skinny! :-)

    Is it my imagination or are they getting better? Or was this just the right venue?

    • @valjean3663
      @valjean3663 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think so because that was the the tightest performance of Them Things Got Me that I've ever heard, and I've listened to just about every other recording of them playing it.

      I don't know how they can get better Vic but they just seem to. This venue is superb for them because they are always so well received and appreciated..

    Miss Erika and her Drumbeat. Strings don't quite carry the Beat, much as they try.

    Here's the problem: Miss the bass drum! Why? Mainly because the tuba player doesn't continually
    face the audience - his beat can't be heard. The band has a tinny sound - the guitars and banjo can't
    carry the bass musical lines.
    Here's the solution: Have the tuba player STOP walking around - moving around. Like the other wind
    instruments, direct his sounds toward the audience. His instrument is heavy - get him a chair!
