Absolutely right. I experienced it when my first niece was stillborn. I was angry, but there was no-one to blame - and people just shut down when you're desperate to talk about it, as though they want to manage your grief for their own comfort.

Unfortunately, the members of Parkway Drive had to cope with the loss of multiple people close to them between their last album and this one, and it truly shaped a majority of the songs on "Reverence." Everyone has to cope with the love of a lost one, if they're lucky enough to mourn them. A co-worker once told me if there was a button he could press that would annihilate all life in the universe, he wouldn't hesitate to press it and he had a young daughter. This song reminds me of that perspective, it's blind and incomplete.
To me, it's a calling out those who pretend to care about how you're feeling but only offer (mainly religious) platitudes. It's basically saying "don't ask me how I am if you don't want to know the truth".
I’m not too big on commenting on TH-cam but this song has struck a good chord with me. You asked what this song may mean to us, and here goes mine. In highschool a good friend of mine took his own life and it shattered my already uneasy world. From a broken home loosing friends and other things that literally happened to me in a church that moment killed any faith I could have hung onto, in estancia killing god inside me, which is a lyric in the song. It’s the moment when you’re sitting there the drugs aren’t working the alcohol isn’t working, nothing is taking the pain away anymore, and you look up and ask why the fuck did you do this to me, to is?! And there is never an answer. That’s what it could easily mean to anyone listening who has lost some one. I love this song and I’m subscribing to you guys, thanks for the content!

The band was really close with another band called Architects. In 2016 Tom Searle, founding guitarist and songwriter for Architects died of skin cancer at age 28. Winston (lead singer of Parkway Drive) was good friends with him and wrote this song when dealing with his death.

This song was written during a difficult time for the band and partially as a response to Tom Searle's death from cancer. He was the lead guitarist, principal songwriter, and twin brother to the drummer of the band Architects. I would HIGHLY recommend #Architects // Gone with the Wind to glimpse at his battle with terminal cancer.
This song is about Winston macalls family member died, and he is trying to cope with it. He doesn't know how and he blames God for taking that family member, and blames the devil if he had a roll in it. It's a powerful song!

Wow, if I didn't know better I would swear they are singing about the crap I go through on a daily basis. Anger, confusion, emptiness, sadness, and pain to name a few. I've loss many loved ones who were very close to me, but my brother's suicide was the death that turned me into a different person. Not long ago, I received a message about the way my brother died that wasn't very nice. I won't go into it here, but lets just say there are some non caring evil people in this world that try to get at the core of your inner being just to hurt you. It not only hurt me, but made me furious. I'm telling you this because I needed to vent, and you two are the only ones I can talk to, because I have no friends or family that I can talk to about my brother. They don't understand, or don't want to understand. Anyway, great song and great reaction. Love your channel, and love you guys. This song hits hard as I deal with multiple mental illness but both songs are about the lead singer Phill Bozemans mother who had schizophrenia who ended up dying because of her drug addictions. When a demon defiles a which shows a demon she created in her head named Mycur who tortured her and convinced her to do terrible things. Phil found out a lot of this from a diary of hers he found with detailed the 20+ personalities she created in her head and the whole new album is about his moms struggles and his struggles dealing with his mom. This first song is a bit heavier than what you are used to but the second song Hickory Creek is where he shows off his beautiful clean vocal. I really hope you decide to check these out as it would mean the world to me. Thank you guys for all of the amazing content!!!

I'm late to this reaction but what Winston is singing about is facing multiple devastating loses within a short amount of time which caused him to lose faith. He's killing gods within himself. He no longer believes, or has faith.
I liked that quite a bit. Technically proficient without over thrashing to the point there's no musical structure. Nothing like an existential failure of faith. I know the feeling. God's world is supposed to be great but what if it isn't. You can either be atheist or if you can't do that ? you have to be pissed at the god(s). If faith has let you down..........

No disrespect to this band, or your reaction; But, I found the lyrics to be sophomoric. There were no discernible chord progressions to critique, and the message was a little “cry-baby” for me.....Sorry, It obviously wasn’t for me, on a musically intellectual basis.
