The Orthodox Church doesn't teach the Immaculate Conception. Mary is not merely the Christ-bearer, she is truly the God-bearer. Christ in His incarnation was fully God and fully man. The two natures were united without separation. The person that Mary gave birth to was truly God and truly man. This is why Elizabeth called Mary the "mother of my Lord" and Isaiah prophesied that the Virgin would give birth to Emmanuel, God with us. Christ's human nature is derived from Mary, not His divine nature which is eternal. We cannot trust in, depend on, or boast in our works for salvation since that is a wicked sin. We are justified by God's grace through faith apart from the works of the Law. Our union with Christ empowers us and enables us to do the works God has prepared for us. We do not perform good works to save ourselves, but in a spirit of love and gratitude for God's gifts. Listen carefully to the prayer from 12:10-13:37. "Thou wilt find no works which could justify me."
