The only thing I was looking forward to for Sonic Frontiers was the story. I had actually commissioned Ian Flynn to help me with a story I am working on before this was released. I have to admit, I made the right call by asking Mr. Flynn for help, cause GOD DAMN was this story AMAZING!!! So true to the characters and that’s what’s most important for a franchise as storied as Sonic the Hedgehog.

This and Sonic Prime really gives me hope for the future where franchises can be genuine again without hiding behind modern age comedy and quirkiness as a substitute

@Kian Its not as a substitute though the clips I've seen the characters and how they'd accordingly act as well as overarching story are still at the forefront unlike Boom where its always comedy, which is not that bad either but Prime when the characters are concerned or doing things other than comedy they actually look and sound genuine
The writers of Prime said that the series is about self-discovery and redemption. So that means Sonic will eventually take shit seriously

The characterisation of Amy,Knuckles,Dr Eggman and ESPECIALLY Tails are now step on the right direction and I can’t wait to see them and especially as a playable characters.Thanks Ian Flynn, thanks for fixing all of my favourite characters(especially Tails)

Hard to believe I'm starting to like Tails again after Lost World and Forces did to the character man, I have gripes with Frontiers but I'm glad for what it did to the characters.

Another revelation I still need to process: we had a tribe of perfect chaos dwell around Sonic’s planet. It’s a good thing they’re pacifists.
it’s also poetic on how sonic and sage’s relationship started as enemies with sage greeting sonic with a Titan yeet, to brief accomplice with their last interaction being sage yeeting sonic to an eldritch moon sized rock.
I don't think Chaos is an exact biological match for the Ancients and the ability to become Perfect Chaos belonged to him alone, otherwise we wouldn't have the Titans.

Frontiers is definitely a huge step in the right direction for the franchise. After all of the crap we went through in the 2010s (which is hopefully long gone by now) it's definitely time to move on to new horizons like what they say in "I'm Here." SonicTeam better keep Ian Flynn as the main writer for the series from here on out. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Sage return in a new game since she's a great new addition.

I haven't played Frontiers yet, but I've seen most of the cutscenes and yeah this is the best story we've gotten since Black Knight.
For me personally, this is Roger's best Sonic performance to date. I really loved it. Flynn's writing was also excellent.

Just letting you know that in an interview they stated that The End's true form is not what we see in the game. Apparently its form changes depending on how one would see what death looks like. The reason it is depicted as a moon is due it representing death in many fictions (also because of time restrains they weren't able to show what they invision what it would look like in the game). It brings an interesting question on how both Sonic and Sage saw The End.
Plus since it mention that what they fought was only one incarnation so my bet is that this isn't the last time we see The End.
So it’s kinda like Galactus then? A cosmic being that obliterates entire planets on a regular basis and who’s appearance differs based on who is seeing him?

if that's the case, then the reason it appears as the moon might because of Sonic's discomfort to things that go slow. The moon is pretty slow, which is probably why the end took on that form in sonic's POV

@@JakeTheStakeNowIn3D5024 Sonic seeing it as the moon could also be a reference to the space colony ARK, which was one of the greatest threats he ever faced. Either way, a massive planet with the ability to destroy other planets is a pretty terrifying thing when you think about it.
I’m not going to lie, I literally had a big smile on my face when I saw Big. I was one of the people that hoped and pray that he would be in Frontiers. Then boom 💥 there he is fishing as usual. I know Big has gotten a lot of flak in the past especially during his gameplay in Sonic Adventure when it was all about fishing and looking for his best friend Froggy and bringing him back home. Even if he didn’t have character development, it’s always a treat seeing him in cameo. Everything about Frontiers I just absolutely loved: made Knuckles more a badass and less comedic relief, Tails being his own man, Amy not always romantically chasing after Sonic and the last but not least Eggman having a father & daughter moment with Sage. I was a surprised on how he was written here, but I like it.

A funny detail that I really love, is that, in both English and Japanese, Sage has the same VA as Rei Ayanami from Evangelion. (Megumi Hayashibara and Ryan Bartley, from the Netflix dub)

Honestly I have my own perspective on this scene. The first couple times, I had the same mindset but then I kinda developed something new. Me personally, I thought the scene was more about how Sage wishes that she had something like Sonic's family. She cares for eggman but I'm assuming from her POV, he's a bit stubborn but she sees the good sides of him. So i would say it's more of a sad thing from her perspective cause she sees that she can never have that family with eggman YET.
Internet is waiting to hear her say papa or dad...
I agree, but it still feels kinda lacklustered in my opinion.
Sonic Team even went as far as to thank us (the fans) for still having faith in them despite their past mistakes
I'm glad they didn't decanonize the meta Era games. Even if their stories were weak, removing them wouldn't feel... right. I appreciate it when someone is able to take good elements from a piece of media that wasn't well received and make a stronger follow-up. (IDW anyone?)
Don't expect Orbot and Cubot to go anywhere anytime soon, though. They still have their Sonic Channel profiles, and even Ian Flynn has grown quite fond of them.
After Forces, i started saying that i wanted Tails to be like Kenta from Beyblade Metal Fury, and here he is going through a similar development, i love it!
in that season, Kenta started seeing himself as a burden to the main character Gingka, so he decided to go on his own and help in his own way, and in that story, the heroes needed the help of a previous antagonist called Ryuga, which would be the Shadow/infinite equivelant, so Kenta decides to follow and then fight him to convince him to join the heroes, whose condition is to simply get him to get serious for even a sec, which Kenta eventually manages to do that from following Ryuga through hard obstacles, i really wonder if Tails will get something similar to this!

As one who started out with Metal Fight, I was initially quite skeptical and frankly snobbish about Burst, but after having now come to its end (yes Burst is done now; Hasbro is doing some extra stuff, but TT is already moving on to what's next), I can safely say that I loved and will never forget it, as it ended up becoming much more meaningful to me than I ever would have thought possible. :)

I was so glad to see the characters back to being characters. I'm really hoping future games have Sonic team up with Dark, Chaotix, The other members of Rose, even the Babylon. To get a idea of how his friendship with them works
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I truly believe Sonic's friends bringing him back after the cyber corruption was way better than people give it credit for. It wasn't just some "my friends are my power" cliche. All of them had described their experiences in cyber space as horrible and nightmarish. But throughout the cyber corruption arc, Sonic would never let them worry about his condition. He always turned the attention back to them and their lives, in his typical selflessness. He knew he was very possibly going to die (in some way) by doing all that to save them, but he did it anyway. And the FIRST thing they did upon seeing what he'd sacrificed for their sake was go back into those nightmarish conditions to save him. They finally got to sacrifice for him, too. And the instrumental "I'm Here" that played during that scene made me so happy. 💞
Totally understand your point, I think the problem with that scene is that the entire game was building the cyber corruption to something much bigger, and I think it was for Amy, Knuckles and Tails to be playable (Sonic 06 ending style), but then the problem was solved in a really quick way, and that was underwhelming for a lot of people. Now there is a huge chance that the DLC could make that scene better

According to Sonic's wiki, The End's true form is still unknown. Its appearing changes according to one's perception of death. Maybe this is the perception of ancients, The End saw through Supreme's eyes.
I feel like Knuckles has a feeling of guilt when not guarding the emerald though Heroes and 06 were emergencies. I think Knuckles ended up liking hanging with Tails Sonic and Amy and started genuinely seeing them as friends and not just allies in Sa2. It’s even mentioned in Meteor herd. Sonic just opened the door for Knux to take time to live life without guilt or worry. I liked this game’s story but one thing I’ll say is I really hope we’ll start actually seeing physical Sonic lure instead of it just being teased in dialogue, like I’d like to actually see the shattered moon (which wasn’t in the game) and I’d like to see something like Super Knuckles instead of just winks. One more thing I didn’t like was how Sage kinda suggested in Forces fashion that the other characters are useless without Sonic. Like she says they have a fighting chance with Sonic I’m assuming because he can use the emeralds but this game already established that Knuckles can go super with chaos emeralds too. Tails maybe can use them but even if Tails needs the Super Emeralds to tap into his Super form even without that he’s a genius is that not helpful and Amy can give them emotional support. I just don’t like how the characters keep acting like the world is doomed without Sonic one of the reasons I really like the Garlic and also Cell sagas in 90s Dragonball
Good analysis. I liked that Super Knuckles was basically re-canonized. Hoping to see Sonic's friends become more active in the plotlines again, and would also love to see the super (and hyper) forms of Knuckles and Tails. Maybe Shadow too. I didn't really like that Mania added Super Tails as it feels like a betrayal of Sonic 3.
Not only that, but we are getting DLC to play as the rest of the characters (except for Sage and Eggman, of course)!

The director of the game mentioned that The End's basic moon form is NOT it's true form. It's actually what, we, the player see, as The End takes on the form that the perceiver views as death itself.
Like I said under some other video on YT... I really love this Eggman/Sage father and daughter relationship concept, however I feel like they could show some more development of it. I mean, I understand thier feelings, and there were a bunch of moments where we were able to see how thier relationship was building. That is... when we look at Sage. But Eggman seeing Sage as his daughter felt kinda... sudden? nearned?
I could feel Sage growing to perceive Eggman as her father throughout the story. And although I could see Robotnik respecting and appreciating her, I wasn't really able to notice him developing this kind of affection for her, until the last cutscences. And i've listened to Robotnic's Audios, and it was a good start, but still... I would love to see some more of them. Like, imagen Sage and Eggman traveling through the Cyberspace, having converstion about everything doctor had accomplished ( more or less), and Sage being absolutely amazed by him. This little talk leads to the point where she unwittingly calls him "Father". He looks at her suprised and asks "father?" Sage apologises immediately, begs for forgiveness, but doctor is just like "whatever". A few cutscences foward it happens again. But this time Robotnic says "Don't exaggerate it. I don't really care", but you can tell he's kinda plesed by his new "nickname". Or after Eggman scoled Sage for suggesting an alliance with Sonic, Sage is looking sad, and then doctor pets her timidly and comforts her (as much as he's able to, let's not forget, he's still Eggman). Just a few more moments when he shows any signs of attachment to her, because the only scence (except the ending) where they acctually showed that was when Eggman said "I'm proud of you" in one cutscence. What I'm trying to say is, they didn't lay enough foundations for the ending to be this emotional.
I mean, I loved the ending and I cried durring the credits, but still i belive I would have cried even harder, If the writers added some extra moments of Eggman and Sage❤❤❤

I agree wholeheartedly. I love that Eggman is having another familial relationship with someone, but I was extremely thrown-off when he called her “daughter”. I would have liked to see Sage call him her father and then have Eggman wait until at least the next game for him to admit she’s like family to him.
If there is something that I wish Frontiers did more of, it is going into the ancients more. I would have liked to see some Horizon stuff, vantage points, audio logs, soviners, maybe different collectables than memory tokens (especially that one), etc. I think things like that would really help make the story better. As it is right now I do really like it though and think it is good.

Regardless of what anyone says I have my own list of what is canon in the Sonic Universe. In order it's Sonic 1-3, Adventure 1 and 2, Heroes, Shadow, Unleashed, Forces and Frontiers. Admittedly it's not alot but it works for me. Also the IBW comics are also canon.
Great video! One note for you. The end has some extra lore that’s not in the game (there was a lot of unused material). It’s true form is up to the eye of the beholder. It’s a dead planet (or moon) in reference to the ancient Japanese tale this game is based off of (it’s kind of a storybook title), but also because that’s how Sonic would unconsciously see the end of everything. A dead world. Now… we could say, “but what about what SAGE sees?” But SAGE is an AI and not an organic being, and The End has been connected to Sonic from the start. And we will be seeing it again. It’s not done yet.
I definitely wish the game’s finale was a bit better handled still. I think the buildup to the corruption had more of a payoff, like Sonic’s friends needing to enter cyberspace again and do their own levels to bring Sonic back, ala 06.
Though, I’d argue it’s not as easy as that since his corruption was too strong. Instead, Sonic would need to use the corruption as his own power, requiring him to go through the fifth island within cyberspace itself to gain the ability to return to the real world and take on The End.
This, to me, would go perfectly with a new super form that’s both powerful but extremely dangerous to him and requires the help of Sage to maintain. I feel like this makes it more believable that Sonic could take on a world destroying being like The End, since Sonic took the burden it had tried to place on him and made it a weapon against that very enemy.
That way the lengths at which sonic goes to save the day could be understood more and…not just be solved by a shooting minigame and some QTE’s.

I think the Sage cutscene was a nice idea. I mean the one with the flashback. I like it because of the music, because it's the same you hear at the hand, ans that cutscene actually made me cry, so remembering that and seeing the end really made me emotional
The scene where Sage is upset with the montage really made me feel bad for her. It was the point where I started to feel like that destroying the Titans was a big mistake.

I would like if you did a complete analysis on The End as its speech gives a lot of hint concerning its true nature and its role in the Sonic universe.

7:04 I think the 2010s games could have actually benefitted this one storywise for Sonic like Tails. How about we give Sonic a character arc to where he starts off the game the way he was in the 2010s but slowly turns into the way he was in the 2000s instead of him just being there already?
Totally get your point, but I feel like Sonic is one of those characters that doesn't need character development he just need to be consistent. Which he wasn't for 10 years
I dont Think Sonic needs characther development, He is the one that helps people to grow (Blaze/Marine for an example)
I want to point out that The End we fight in Frontiers is not actually The End. It refers to itself as "This incarnation." Meaning the world destroying planetoid we fight isn't the real thing. It's just an avatar. I'm willing to bet the battle with The End is far from over.

But in all seriousness, I hope that Ian Flynn and Sonic Team continue taking Sonic and friends in this direction: because if they do, the story and characterization for the next decade could be the best in the franchise's history 🤩
I did enjoy the reversal here, where the world-ending monster isn't unleashed by Eggman because he wants power over the world, it's unleashed by Sonic because he values his friends more than the world.
I can definitely agree that the game might have had a little too much focus on character at the expense of the plot, but... if the main purpose was to course-correct these characters from the way they were written in the 2010s, they absolutely succeeded. And spending that extra bit of time doing that might be what the series as a whole needs, even if the game itself would have benefitted from tighter pacing.
Gonna say as well, for as few lines as he gets, I think they did a good job with Big here -- he feels a lot less like a caricature of someone with mental challenges, and more like someone who's laid back, a little bit lazy, and choosing to live a simpler life. I get the sense this is how he was meant to be written from the beginning but they had never quite got it right.

I also hope Ian Flynn returns, because not only he knows the characters, but even writes shadow as a great character (Mostly Archie), he characterized him after 06 and SA2, plus who knows maybe another shadow game, but less edgy. Also he loves Team Dark.

So, don’t tell me what to do and I’m just happy he’ll play the game, because he said in a previous he may not play it.
I like what Channel Pup offered as his alternative to the montage: show how Robotnik has interacted with his robots in the past like Metal Sonic, Gamma and Orbot & Cubot.
If you listen closely to the titan themes, you'll fund that they reference the characters that Sonic saves on the island. Amy's is Undefeatable, a song about dealing with the now, and moving on, like her "relationship" with Sonic. Knuckles's is Break through it all, a song about waiting for the right moment to unleash yourself on the world, like how Knuckles trained for fighting his whole life, but sits guarding the master emerald all day everyday. Find your flame is about finding your self-worth after leaving your past behind, like how Tails regrets his past, and starts his own journey, without Sonic, he's all grown up now.

If you want to see how Ian Flynn would rather write Shadow, then I recommend reading the first 4 issues in Archie's Sonic Universe comics.
The thing is, Ian Flynn loves the characters and I believe that if you give him all the freedom to write the story he can wonders with Shadow, but that involves Sega stopping with the mandates

SEGA's interference really caused the poor guy to be a black mark in a otherwise enjoyable comic book series
The characterization the story and gameplay is what makes Sonic Frontiers so great if Sega and Sonic Team keeps this up Sonic will be on top again
The End didn't seem that big to me originally, but when you mentioned how The End was responsible for stuff like Perfect Chaos, Black Doom, Dark Gaia, etc, that hit hard.
Still one of the worst villains.
I've gotta be honest, but in terms of the characterisation at least, I was a bit underwhelmed with it. Knuckles was fantastic and I really liked how they put an emphasis on how guarding the Master Emerald affected his attitude towards life, and Tails was okay I guess. But I did not appreciate how Sonic essentially lost his attitude, Amy lost her sass, and how Eggman was written in such a way that made me wonder if he will even be a villain going forward, especially an eccentric and menacing one like he was in the 90s and early to mid 2000s.
The same also goes with Sage, tbh. Based on leaks and the story and TGS trailer, I thought she was going to actively challenge Sonic's beliefs, make him doubt himself or something, but that never happened and what did happen was confusing and made me wonder why any of that was happening. Oh well, I guess, but yeah, the story wasn't for me. I prefer the more wacky stuff anyway, whether from the 90s, 2000s or 2010s.
I completely agree. Everyone here is worshipping Ian Flynn so hard and treating the story like it's the best one in the series and over here baffled because I thought this was the most nonstory story ever since barely anything happened imo, Sage was a "villain" for all of 2 seconds, and the game was mostly just characters talking about unimportant things.
Tails "arc" felt forced, Amy wasn't Amy, people say "oh she just matured" but it just felt like a 180 and she acts like a new character, not to mention that voice with that new personality makes her sound like an old woman and it's weird. Knuckles was mostly ok, although I don't get the sudden gay thing they were doing throughout every convo they had. And I don't even get why everyone was so gloomy and serious, worse things have happened before and no one has been this emo about it and the less things I say about the ending portion the better

Because if so that is delusional. I did play the game, it was fun despite some issues and the repetitive nature of it and didn't like the story all that much tbh, that doesn't make me txīc. Just because that trio had a character arc doesn't automatically make the story perfect and it doesn't mean it was necessary, they didn't need that character development, especially Tails if they would've handled his character correctly during the meta era, plus him wanting to fly solo is also weird considering he's been solo for a while before colors so I don't get where that's coming from nor why he needs to announce that, his story was fine but it felt like an overcorrection to fix what happened in Forces. Again Knuckles was fine story wise since he was debating about something new and actually made sense, but Amy like I said felt like a totally different person imo.

As for the story for starters did you forget that "long time no see" meme? Tails was never with Sonic all the time, in SA1 he learned to no be stuck to Sonic all the time, in S2 he matured and was one if nit the most proactive one in the team, in heroes he came to Sonic so he wasn't with him same thing in Battle, in Unleashed Sonic went alone on an adventure on his own and Tails was doing his own thing, Tails could already fly solo is he wanted and he already has I don't understand why it had to be stated

I'd argue this is a benefit to the Sonic lineage. One of the main themes each of the characters deals with in Frontiers is letting the past exist.
This theme is repeatedly explored in the music, one of Frontiers' greatest assets. I'd say it acts as a statement to the fans of Sonic that Sonic Team as a whole has learned to understand its shortcomings and mistakes, and is free to move past them.
Sonic Frontiers is outstanding. It’s probably one of my favorite Sonic the Hedgehog games, next to Sonic Unleashed of course.
Perhaps this game is what SEGA and Sonic Team need in order to get back on track with the true blue heroic hedgehog (from the stories to the characters), and leave the games from the Sonic Colors era behind (even though the games from the Sonic Colors era are hit and miss for me at least).

the story was good, but not the best imo, and honestly there were some things you praised that i wasn't a fan of like the end and also a few lines that i felt were just off, but i do love how the characters were handled even if they too had off moments sometimes

I LOVE the story in Frontiers, if I had to make one small change to it, pretty much the suggestions you mentioned in the video, and something like this: Amy, Knuckles, and Tails all need to pilot their Titan to free Sonic from Cyberspace. You play as Sonic in a final stage, where Cyberspace is falling to pieces. On the final island, Sonic only needs to find 1 Chaos Emerald, because everyone is finding their own. Since The End is practically out of Cyberspace now, it’s no longer collapsing, meaning there can still be stages to get keys for Emerald vaults. And Sage, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Super Sonic all fight The End in the final boss. It’s a bit big of a change for a story I already love, but I think it adds a bit more to the climax/ending.
This is probably my favorite story in the franchise ever.

I love the way the characters are handled, I love the new lore regarding the Chaos Emeralds, and I LOVE the callbacks to the previous games, even if it makes the 2010 games canon (plus there are secret dialogue tidbits that Sonic randomly says that heavily suggest that the IDW comics, or parts of them at least, may ALSO be canon because he mentions Tangle the Lemur, one of the IDW characters). I also agree that the ending was its weakest part, especially after all the buildup of the first three islands, but maybe the DLC next year will help with that? It just seemed very strange for a Sonic game of all things to run out of momentum in the last act.
However, my biggest outstanding question that nobody else seems to be asking is: if the Chaos Emeralds are from a planet far, far away, why were they drawn to the Master Emerald and what was IT doing on Earth? Why would they have such a close connection if they're from completely different planets? And why is nobody else talking about this?

The writing of this game is truly amazing. I haven’t been invested in the lore of a game since FNAF and Kirby. Also, The End may have been defeated, but there’s a chance it’ll come back. Much like Nightmare from Kirby, no matter how many times it dies, it’ll always comeback.

The Ancients in this game remind me of the Drakons from Sonic The Comic. Both are from another planet, they both brought the Chaos Emeralds, both a Chao who is a descendant of the Ancients and a Drakon mutanted into the being called Chaos, both had very advanced technology that could acess dimensions, both created giant guardian machines. The main difference is the Ancients were made of water whereas the Drakons were a race of Fish that lived in water, but both could go on land.

Regarding the Sage scene, i definitely feel like it's a case of Sage simply /wanting/ a familial dynamic like Sonic and Tails have. The very sudden realisation of it, even. I can quite strongly relate to really intense and sudden waves of emotion from what could seem to others as small revelations.
Also, i like the final arc and boss. Yeah sure it didn't get the chance to get a lot of focus BUT i don't really... care in the grand scheme of it, i guess? Like. I care far more about the fact that this game exists at all. This game only had like 60??? Devs??? Iirc??? Which from my understanding is a pretty absurdly small team for a game like this, and even with the year extension they were running out of time by the end. I'm pretty confident they did what they could with the time and resources they had.
The game itself represents a new dawn. A new journey. To look back on what has come before and to carry that with us as we keep moving forward. There is this deep rooted heartfelt and sincere feeling to it (that Sonic games have been familiar with) that I, personally, cannot help but feel drawn to and inspired by.
Anyway another reason i like the last arc is, i suppose, that it has similar vibes to the endsinger except Frontiers doesn't prime my mental health to um. Not do well. but i'm not going to go into that lol
OH ALSO. THE FINAL BOSS LOOKS THE WAY IT DOES BC THAT'S NOT. REALLY ITS TRUE FORM. its appearance is dependant entirely on the onlooker and their perception of death. To the player, it takes the form of the moon because it's frequently a symbol of such. We Don't Know What Sonic And Sage See It As, afaik, but i've been thinking a lot about how Sage refers to the final boss as "it", while Sonic refers to the final boss as "he"
One last addition i swear and not even related to Frontiers but anyway. I definitely have many gripes with team sonic racing and its writing BUT. Silver's autistic coding in it is everything to me, as an autistic person who already related to him a lot prior. I want Silver back so bad and he better be So Neurodivergent
Frontiers has made my top 3 Sonic games. Wasn't expecting that. I haven't liked a Sonic game in over 20 years but then this one hit right.
This game’s character development is amazing because I shows how these characters have changed and I like the game as well now the ending was not really that good but in the update 3 dlc it fixed that
I actually kind of like the moment where Amy Tails and Knuckles take the corruption away from Sonic, is it kinda lame that it happens so quickly after an entire game of buildup? Yeah, it is, but I like because it shows how much sonic's friends trust him that he'll triumph, they didn't remove the corruption, they simply took it back, and as such went back to being stuck in cyberspace, think about it, if sonic failed they would be stuck there for probably eternity, but they still chose to take it back because they trust sonic that he'll win.
Of course if this was an adventure game (or a game with multiple playable characters on release) this would've been the moment where we get to play as them to save sonic, but since that's not the case, I dunno, I liked it as a moment.
Truth be told, Sonic Frontiers' story is definitely the best Sonic Story in years, but that's mostly by virtue of Sonic's storytelling having been pretty dang weak post-Unleashed until now.
I think Frontiers' story is solid enough, but I do really believe that it needed more fleshing out for me to call it truly great. Specifically, Sage and Eggman's development felt pretty rushed by the end. If you don't listen to the optional Eggman audio logs (which is exclusive to fishing with Big), the development of one of the core emotional tentpoles of the entire story is practically nonexistent. In addition, I think The End needed to be fleshed out a bit more. I like the CONCEPT of this cosmic threat that travels the universe seeking only to destroy whatever it finds, but we don't know what drives it. We don't know WHY The End has eradicated entire worlds, turned entire civilizations to ash. As far as the story tells us, it just... does. None of that ruins the story for me, but I think there were a lot of places it could have been fleshed out more and improved.
What I WILL give praise to Frontiers for, is the character writing. I'm not a huge expert on Sonic or Ian Flynn, but it's immediately obvious to me that he just GETS these characters in a way that previous writers haven't. They all feel true to themselves, while setting up development and arcs for them to explore in the future, and even willing to poke fun at past inconsistencies (looking at you, Tails). I won't say the game is a "serious" turn for Sonic, because plenty of his classic wisecracks and snark are there to be found. But it also feels like Flynn and the team aren't afraid to TAKE these characters seriously, in a way that they really haven't ever since the release of Colors. That's a very refreshing change of pace. There's certainly an argument to be made that Sonic stories went pretty off the rails during the latter half of the Adventure-era (what I call Adventure - 06), but I never thought the solution was to all but ditch story entirely like they did after Unleashed.

This game was a huge redemption over everything that we've gotten in the last decade and the writing is a huge stepup, too, I cannot wait for the DLC for the game to come out so I can jump back into it.
And as for what I hope the future of this new era holds, I want to see them bring Shadow back, make him a major character, and most importantly, do him right.
Ik frontiers is supposed to be gloomy but one thing that could have been done was to still give the game more energy like secret rings or black knight. Where sonic genuinely couldn’t understand Merlin’s or where he straight up HATED Erazor and was trying to destroy him. Plus for the final boss sonic should have definitely gone hyper

I do think sonic frontiers does have the best story we've had in a long time from the franchise, but the ending did seem a little rushed
The release of The End could've been a lot more dramatic, and they could've done a lot more with the cyber corruption, maybe even give sonic a new cyber form.
Another idea, what if sonic somehow temporarily revived the ancients? Specifically the ones who piloted the titans. This would make sonic's speech before the final fight make a lot more sense, and give the ancients another shot at defeating the evil that destroyed their race, finally putting them at peace.
The rest of the game was on point though, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. Just thought the ending could've been a bit better
Something I always felt about the story is that the initial threat is more... subdued than previous games. Ever since the first game, there was the threat of the world falling to domination or straight-up destruction. Here? The initial threat is Sonic and his friends being trapped in Cyberspace, it personally removes a bit of urgency to me.

As for you critique of what happens at 27:55 I think this will be something similar to kingdom hearts 3 remind where you get to see what sora does with the power of waking in order too save everyone. I think that in the charcter dlc we will get to see how everyone saved sonic, while I agree that this moment was kinda underwhelming I think it can be saved with the dlc
I dont think the final part of Cybercorruption is a "lame moment", the Sonic Series has always been in some how, the power of friendship and trusting in others. This feels fitting for Sonic. My opinion anyways

One more thing then I'm done commenting, my Theory on the Ancient Babylonians being connected can still apply because of the "Ancient Individual" that's older than them which means that individual is an Ancient but why I brought that up is because the Babylonians have tech that make tangible holograms so no, Sage is not an Android but a Metaphysical Manifestation/Projection of Eggman's AI.

As for the story itself...There is so much to unpack with this. Tangle being confirmed from the comics, Sticks is in here too (would love to see that), NateWantsToBattle doing a song after going from his cover album to being in the anniversary concert...and THEY FINALLY GOT OUR PALS RIGHT! (BTW the gameplay is great and you can literally get everything you need to complete the story and upgrade Sonic all the way from Big's fishing. When HONEST TRAILERS praises Big, you know it's good.) Trust me, if you love how it looks, you're gonna love how it plays.
And Sage....she is special. I haven't cried this hard at any Sonic THING since GAMMA. And I cried HARDER when Dear Father played.
The music, the gameplay, the BEST STORY I HAVE SEEN SINCE ADVENTURE 1 IF NOT 2...this (along with the movies and the buzz about the upcoming Netflix toon) have made me not only happy but PROUD to call myself a Sonic fan.

Evil rulers in the game world, such as Bowser and Geese, often had children, but they were still evil, and Eggman is no different.

Something very funny to me, is that The End really fucking reminds of a sonic character I created like 5 years ago, literally, both of them are these ancient gods of destruction that go around destroying every planet they see for seemingly no reason.
I guess the difference between them is that The End is actually evil, meanwhile my character doesn't really have any malice towards anyone, he just follows the orders he thinks he was given.
Not to mention they use forms that aren't their real form, since I'm pretty sure the game explains somewhere that The End we fight isn't his real form, it's just one it took to be understandable to mortals. (Not to mention both of them are able to create supernovas at will and both were imprisoned for millions of years)

Attention everyone I have finally complete Sonic Frontiers and I had to say I am very glad and proud of this of this story
I'm so glad the 2010s era of Sonic is over and Sonic is cool again
I wasn't really impressed with Frontiers and how it handled Amy, Knuckles and Tails.
It really did feel like they were doing the bare minimum with them, having them be there and not treating them like jokes, rather than properly reintroducing them with the bang they deserve. It's all well and good saying you're building for future titles, but what about the here and now? Yes, there is DLC coming which will have them playable, but I think the point still stands they should have made more of an impact on the main story rather it being, than everyone hold hands and through the power of friendship, we will free Sonic from his cyber corruption. Along with it not really feeling earned, it was like 06 with Sonic's death, but with less steps, and a lot less gameplay.
Also, if Cyberspace is made up of the history of the inhabitants of the Starfall islands, why aren't going through their past, instead of Sonic's. Again. For the third time now. I think by this point we know Sonic's past quite well. Plus with inhabitants memories, it could have allowed for new and original Cyberspace stages, the ideal place for his friends to be playable, and help him unravel the mysteries of the island, if they can't do anything in the real world (despite Knuckles stopping a death beam from Sage which undermines the argument that gets thrown at me when I say they should be playable being "something something they're trapped in cyberspace.")

I'll go ahead and give a brief review of the gameplay for anyone who's interested:
Personally, I've always preferred the Adventure style of gameplay, however, this game does a great job of joining the Adventure and Boost style gameplay, leaning more towards the Boost style gameplay. One gripe I have about the game is Sonic's a little too slow in the open zone areas. Another great aspect of this game is the combat: it flows perfectly and attacks can be linked together. A poor man's DMC if you will, but not bad. The Titan fights are phenomenal, but a bit too easy once you get a hand on the combat. The Cyberspace levels are 100% Boost style, with the only difference being you have a recharging boost meter identical to the one in the open zone. Overall, 8/10 in the gameplay.
