Boris Johnson ‘deliberately misled parliament’, Covid inquiry finds

  • Long-awaited, but much more hard hitting than anticipated, the Privileges Committee report condemned Boris Johnson for repeatedly misleading MPs and - despite his protestations to the contrary - undermining the committee itself.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
Being sent an advance copy of the report triggered his decision last week to quit as an MP. If he hadn't he'd be facing a recommended 90 day suspension from parliament and a likely by-election.

Then he lied directly in the Commons ...how many times? Do you still believe that he told the truth? I say that because Boris admits it was not the truth. Do you really in your heart believe that Boris did not know the rules which should be applied?

Having voted for Boris twice for London Mayor i despair at how i was hoodwinked. I thought he had the best interests of Londoners in his heart.
He obviously has only ever had the best interests of BoJo the clown at heart. I cheered when I heard that they would have barred him for 90 days although I would have barred him from public office for life. His further attendance at the Cenotaph, where this country honours it's heroes, would be shameful after lying to the Queen about the need to prorogue Parliament and causing her to sit alone at her husbands funeral, quite apart from all his other misdemeanours.
Good riddance BoJo. I'm sure the good people of Uxbridge and Selby (and Mid-Beds when another crybaby Dorries can decide exactly when she can be arsed to step down) will show what we really think of 'Johnsonism'- a short term nightmare that has left us with long-term problems.

As I understand it, the committee was asked to decide whether Boris had lied to or deliberately misled the House, not whether any parties took place - that was the subject of other enquiries. Therefore it is not particularly relevant to accuse Sir Bernard Jenkin of attending a party, which he has not lied about.

If you had a big gathering at your father's cremation (very sorry for your loss) and other members of your family had caught it and died, then you would be triumphant and said "At least we got a party like he did?". Before being so judgemental on somebody at the top having a drink, can you think of the responsability of taking decisions where no matter which one you choose hundreds of thousands of people may die? It's awful and no country was able to pick an ideal solution. Sweden decided not to lock down at all, and France locked people up inside for weeks. Neither was a magic bullet. It was an awful awful time and whether somebody had some cake or not is really insignificant in my opinion. Remember Boris also ordered millions of doses of vaccine before it was proved they would work, then the French press slated their President for not ordering vaccines like Boris did.

They have not proven misleading legally as it is in part a state of mind, they exceeded delegated powers in going for reckless. They were advised by Lord Panic on that and other opinions are coming in but have decided to ignore legal advice. Instead like a Kangaroo court they threaten MPs who point out the law or the power delegated to them and even threaten Privy Councillors over which they are not supposed to have power.
