Good video! The buildings might look burnt down, but actually they have sat empty and neglected for so long that they have collapsed. The High School is a tragedy in itself. It was my parents and grandparents High School, and my Jr. High. I even worked there as a costodian right before they finished building the new school right by my Elementary School. It was a real nice school and I wish I would of taken pictures of it when I worked there so I could have my own nice pictures of it. Another custodian who was there graduated in 1975 and he said it was just as nice in 2012 that it was in 1975, sadly as you see, that is not the case now. Indian Creek sold it in 2013, it changed hands a couple of times, then the current owner bought it in 2017 and it's been down hill ever since.
@@97redsonoma4 thanks for watching and sending the vibes!! It’s sad to see the town in the condition that it’s in! Like I said in the video, I remember it small but busy and proud ( mostly the mill workers and bars) still proud people for sure tho! Thanks again for sharing some personal information!!
There was another tv movie filmed there in 1983 called Heart of Steel. It had John Goodman and Peter Strauss in it. Also filmed part of it in Steubenville. I worked on set as a paramedic when it was being filmed. Good times.
In 1770, George Washington set out on an expedition to explore the Ohio River Valley. On the 22nd day of October he camped overnight in what was known then as Mingo Town, describing it as blustery and cold with about 20 cabins and 70 inhabitants of the Iroquois Confederation. Washington wrote a complete account of his observations in a diary stored in the Library of Congress. Mingo Junction was founded circa 1869 when an iron works was started there. In 1900, its only manufacturing plant was a steel mill owned by Carnegie Steel Company.
Thanks Jim. It's sad and terrible how small towns like Mingo Junction have just been left to rot away. It's just not the small towns, look at Y-Town and Warren after the mills and recently GM Lordstown shut down. It is truly sad. But great video Jim! Urban decay at its finest!
I had never heard of Mingo Junction so I went to Google maps and found it. I zoomed into the street view and followed the same course that you walked on in this video. The Google camera van must not pass through there very often. The pictures of the high school on Google were from Sept. 2013. None of the windows were broken out at that time. Rapid urban decline.
Great video. Crazy how the buildings are just falling down and not having to be torn down for safety sake, apparently no money to do so. So sad to see.
That town has been like that for years.. when i was young.. when the mill died.. Steubenville should have added it to the city.. at one time they had only one cop..
Just like the rest of the rust belt when we bought cheap Japanese steel in the 80s we screwed ourselves over and another American industry bit the dust. The Reagan years fuc*d us over unless you were an executive or into investments. It just snowballed after that during multiple presidents and free trade. It was great for venture capital firms too but hey, it trickled down right just like Bonzo promised 😂😂😂.
Was a great town to grow up in
