What a blessing you are Jean. So many useful hints which seem so doable. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents so freely. Many blessings to you and your family.
You are a true quilter on a free motion technique.....I used to watch my mother doing free motion especially on her feather technique...well done Jean and the sad part not seeing your beautiful face.
Hi Ms. Jean. I've got a laundry basket of baby quilts that I just pulled out to work on this weekend. I had forgotten about them until I watched this video. Thank you!!! I took a free motion class in 2019 and need to go back to practicing. These are scrap fabric quilts so I can practice a lot on them. Again, thank you! Rochelle
Great video Jean. I learned fmq by trial and error. It's so worth learning and once you get it right it's so freeing to not be stuck stitching in the ditch. My quilts and up unique and that's what I love. Your quilt is truly fabulous just like you. Enjoying watching the journey.
Hi Jean, thanks for explain the process of the machine quilting. I’ve started playing around with a sample piece. I’ve practice doing swirls, hearts.leaves. and water drops. It will be a while before I get it but I’ll keep at it. Yours is going to be fabulous. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Sounds great Carmen! It was funny, as I was trying to teach Jen how to FMQ, she just COULDN'T do circles....but was great with an 'elongated "E"!! LOL! Everyone has to find a design they are comfortable with and sounds like you have the right idea:) All the best and thanks! :)
Thank you, again! Lol I am still amazed with your circle skill. I have completed 6 tops for gifts. I may try out the circles on one of them. Thanks for the breakdown on how you size the circle up to your patchwork! Practice, practice, practice!
You are most welcome!! Practice Practice practice AND keep those shoulders down and envision the energy flowing out your arms, through your hands and into the quilt!! Sounds airy fairy, but it helps! All the best:)
You consistently and generously share your quilting techniques and knowledge, so appreciated! I have a juki sit-down long arm just waiting for me to retire and spend some time with it so I'm trying to absorb all your tips.
Well you made that look possible for a novice like me. I have done my last quilt with a free motion meander with loops, starting with the centre and working outwards as your last tutorial showed. It’s not perfect but I was getting quite good towards the end😊. I understand what you mean by listening to your machine, that does help. Thanks again Jean. Take care🏴
Great job Margaret! That makes me so happy! :) I'm sure your work is just super! And each quilt you will get better and better! But I saw your shoulders up around your ears....!!! LOL! Relax!! LOL!
Oh Jean you are such an inspiration. I have made a few BABY quilts never a big one. I have only ever stiched in the ditch. NEVER attempted to do any free motion quilting. I have a free motion foot that has never been used. But I am now going to have a go. Circle's look like I could pull it off. Fingers crossed i'll have a go and let you know how I get on. Lots of love and a big THANK YOU.
Super!! Have a go!! What have you got to lose? A bit of thread and you might have some loopy loop crummy eyelashes, but who cares, and once you get it, You'll love it!! LOL! As far as circles go, just KEEP envisioning you circling and 'needle painting' around a COIN!! Your brain will GET that!! LOL!! All the best:) Hugs:)
Hi Jean, I’m loving the circle quilting! I have a quilt top with washing’s that I’m finishing up and going to incorporate circles in my quilting. I may have to,draw out the circle though, not sure I will be as consistent as you. 🥰
You might not...just try to envision circling a coin!! That way it'll eliminate the need for marking which can be a pain. But lots of people DO mark, I do when it comes to more intricate patterns such as feathers etc. All the best:)
Thanks, the tips are invaluable. Just started Fmq let's just say there is a learning curve! Lol either my foot or my hands are out of sync but will get there.
Oh SUCH a learning curve!! LOL! I daresay EVERYONE that started have some tales to tell of the mess they made!!! LOL! Keep at it, Crista, you got this girlfriend!!! LOL!
I have little and big stitches in my FMQ and in the grand scheme of things I don’t really notice with the all over effect of the quilting. I’m taking notice of how you have quilted your blocks, just in case I decide to quilt it myself( after Violet). My Top will be will be finished tomorrow. Yay
What a blessing you are Jean. So many useful hints which seem so doable. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents so freely. Many blessings to you and your family.

Aw thanks Pat!! Believe me, it WASN'T easy to begin with!! LOL! But with tons of practice I got the hang of it and really enjoy how freeing it is:)
Thank you so much for this lesson. I will watch it, practice, watch again, and practice over and over until I get it right:)
Wonderful Darla! You got this:)
