    I'm not even from the United States but I've been watching a lot of sad stories on the news lately about angry parents wondering why their kids aren't dropped off at home and I got curious about those yellow school buses (I see them almost constantly in movies and tv shows, and even cartoons), I just wanted to see the process of it all and I got to tell you, I'm amazed at how the flow of vehicles around the school bus freezes long enough for the kids to board the bus and take off. Is this how it's like all over America? that's amazing.

    I’m impressed by this in a way, I think it’s a shame that America’s infrastructure is so car dependant that children need to get taken to school via bus but the level of service these provide is impressive and the fact that the traffic even stops while the children load on is amazing, where I live no one would ever obey that rule.

      For the first 6 years of elementary school I loved in a rural area where the nearest school was 5 miles away. Had I stayed and attended middle and high school, they would have been 15-20 miles away. I took the school bus then.

    • @justanotheryoutubechannel
      @justanotheryoutubechannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AllStarZone. I grew up in the UK, I can’t speak for everywhere but in my town it’s a fairly suburban place, the population density is roughly 6000 people per square mile which is what I consider the ideal suburban density, compared to the 2000-per-square-mile that’s typical for US suburbs. We don’t have dedicated school buses, but the town was laid out around placing schools at reasonable distances with good walking infrastructure. From my house where I grew up it was a 5 minute walk to the nearest primary school, on small low-traffic roads and footpaths connecting closes and cul-de-sacs, amazingly due to these footpaths walking was not only faster but also a shorter route. It was also about 20 minutes away from my secondary school, and 15-20 away from the town’s technical college. The town was laid out so that you would always be within 10 minutes of a primary school, and 20 minutes of a secondary school. For people who are at the top end of that range, or for people less capable of walking or cycling, there’s regular normal bus routes that use roads with bus lanes, and tend to stop at key areas including schools, and most children would take the bus from their neighborhood to the school and back, the service varies in frequency with the time but they can go up to every 10 minutes on the busier routes at peak times. The technical college is in the centre of town, so if you live further than me from the centre it could quickly become too far to walk, however most of the bus routes in the town go to the town centre where we have very good infrastructure, making it almost like a Bus-Rapid-Transit system with illuminated signs showing arrival and departure times like a train station, the most frequent routes go every 10 minutes and can even include double decker buses.
      Where I live at least, its quite different to America, but I believe in some places we do have dedicated school buses however they aren’t usually painted yellow, they’re just normal buses with the neon signs set to say school bus instead of a route number. I’m sure in those places the traffic wouldn’t stop for the bus though, our drivers often aren’t polite even in neighbourhoods like mine where you honestly don’t need a car.

      @@justanotheryoutubechannelin the US it depends on where you live if you have a bus I went to a school in Orlando,Fl where we only had one bus and everyone biked or walked to school. in more dense areas around los Angeles most kids don't have buses and may take public transportation. Also, some kids have disabilities in the US there's special buses to pick those kids up and transport them to school, also different schools have different programs like engineering, nursing, or even technology schools so the kids that attend them don't usually live close by so school buses allow them to get to school within a timely manner.

      They aren’t all two stories tall but that can happen, those double decker buses allow much higher capacities without increasing length since European roads are smaller and include tight turns. Usually over here schools have a contract with the bus service provider for the local area where a certain amount of buses will operate as school buses during specific times, rather than having dedicated buses, hence why they aren’t yellow.

Lots of people are suffering an absolutely certain inconvenience every time, presumably to reduce the already tiny possibility of a child being injured by a car. In this video, four private vehicles and a bus had to wait 40 seconds for the first bus. That's at least 3'20'' of other people's time (assuming only one person in each vehicle; it's probably much more than that). That's outrageous in my opinion.
