Being such a high ranking official, he is clearly an intelligent and competent man, but more importantly, he is also a wonderful father. Hats off to this man.

He had been outside North Korea since 1996. It would be impossible to return to the repressive regime especially as both his sons have grown up in the west. He was desperate for liberty. I just can't blame him. Go Thae Yong-ho bring down the North Korean regime

Yeah his son has a Steam account (video game platform) and his screen name was North Korea Is The Best Korea (A very famous meme created to mock North Korea sarcasticly in the west).

I, an American, have never experienced the pain in my soul as you have Mr. Thae Yong-Ho.
To leave your family in North Korea is indeed a hard thing,
But you must break the chains of slavery against your family Sir, and you have.
May God forever bless you and your family.
    From the US, stay strong.

His family in NK have totally disowned him even his own mother. You can find his family´s reaction to his defection on youtube. Btw: it was Thae Yong-ho who initially informed the western media of the 99% death of Kim Jong-un last month. So, id take what he claims with a pinch of salt.

why not all the highest ranking official in NK Unite against NK Regime. theres only 2 of them left in the family. it is so easy to take them down. i believe with so many defectors from low to highest ranking official defect in NK there's already hint on their minds. but they choose to deny they are all in denial of the truth about the regime. i just hope and wish one day all the people in NK strike against this family.

    • @HS-ie8tj
      @HS-ie8tj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

ItsChikaTime you are oversimplifying this situation. Senior members of the party/NK elite are also victims. As 25 million plus NK citizens, they too were taught from birth that the regime = God. Critical thinking is an unknown concept. This is not Europe. Any sign of doubt results in public execution of you and 3 generations of your family. I would not show any sign of free thinking either. Nobody would risk that, just to express being against the regime to others- who are salivating at the opportunity to rise in social and party standing.

I’ve watched other interviews with Thae where he said his monthly salary from the North Korean government was less than one US dollar. So which is it $900 or $1? I only ask because I’m curious. In spirit I support everything you have done. My family is from the former Soviet and only growing up in that kind of environment can someone understand what hell really is like. Whew! I still remember a program at RussiaToday broadcasted few weeks after the 2011 Japan tsunami, in which 2 Russian professors debated on the question (whether mankind is better off with nuclear energy) in English. 2 very smart Russian senior men argued against each other in front of the program host Aleksandr Gurnov in a heavily accented but perfect English.
It is unfortunate that the video is no longer available at the RussiaToday TH-cam channel for anyone to compare with this Arirang interview.

I think his family received heavy punishment. Sometimes he or she can’t stay and scarified his freedom for that. He doesn’t want to hand on his fate to his children as father . Heart breaking but no choice . He servers royalty to his country but he is a smart man , buzzard regim could not held this man to serve to North Korea . COVID-19 may difficult to escape ... more innocent children starve and risk their life . Media will make North Korean people open their eyes and hard to continue his resin. I respect his decision . He gave up to serve to his country as diplomat . His decision was very wise .
He is a very brave man . I pray peace and happiness to all people one day .

Communism and Islam are twin enemies of God and man, just as Communism and Roman Catholicism are twin enemies of God and man.
God of the Bible, who is the only true and living God, created all of us. His command to us, basically, is that we love Him with all our heart and might, and love our neighbor as ourselves.
But, the Communists don’t believe that God of the Bible is the only true and living God. They, therefore, deny their own Creator who made them. So, the Communists break the first commandment of God.
The Communists break the second commandment of God by hating everybody else except themselves. They kill their uncle or a brother. They may kill their own father and mother, also, if they feel their parents are in their way.
During the Korean War, the Lord very kindly moved the minds and hearts of the people in the US and Britain and many other countries to come over and rescue us. Many soldiers died leaving their families and friends crying. Were it not for their help, the whole Korean Peninsula would have been under the Communists tyranny.
We should be very grateful to the US, Britain, and other nations, who helped us. We should be willing to stand with them, even if it means our own destruction.
I am reading an article, right now, that the people in Ireland are sending money to some native American Indian tribes, because they received monetary help from these tribe(s) a couple of centuries ago during a great famine.
These Irish people got monetary help and have been so grateful for that, so that they’ve never forgotten that kindness.
What we Koreans received from the US, Britain, etc. is their own blood. We Koreans must be ready to shed our own blood for them. That is our duty before God. That is loving our neighbors as ourselves.
Fight against Communism, against Islam, and against Roman Catholicism, having the hope described in the writing below.
WHAT HOPE DO YOU HAVE? (April 19, 1987 Church Bulletin)
Do you hope to be in heaven after your brief stay on earth is over?
If so, you must realize what heaven is. Heaven is fellowship with God through Christ; and only if you are enjoying this in this present life, may you hope to enjoy it in a heaven to come.
This fellowship with God through Christ is produced by the Holy Spirit’s entering your life.
You know when He has come, because you begin to love to read the Bible, pray, attend Church, and give of your time, treasure, and talents to further Christ’s Kingdom on earth. You begin to love the Lord, and to serve Him. All other involvements in your life revolve around this.
If you don’t have these evidences in your life, don’t hope to be in heaven.
Heaven is but the continuation of this kind of life beyond the grave.
The alternative is hell: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.” (Matthew 18:8-9)
