Got the missus to get me one based on this review (and many others), and whilst everyone else seems to rave about it, for me, personally, it has been nothing but utter garbage. Within 30minutes of first turning it on, the games slowed down to a crawl and became unplayable (at one point, takes 40seconds for a basic NeoGeo game to boot). Have tried everything, from a new SD card (which invalidates the warranty, making this basically now, a 100e hunk of plastic shite, with all honesty), to different controllers, a fan to keep it cool, to using different emulators. I have spent a fair few hours of my time, trying to find a workaround, and now I cannot even get a refund or a new one, because of attempting to change the SD card. Basically, for me, it seemed like a great deal, but has actually turned out to be perhaps the worst pile of shit in retro gaming I have ever purchased. Honestly, stick to official releases, at least then you know the thing is actually useable. Very disappointed (and no, not OSGs fault as I probably just got a shit one), but worth pointing out that there does seem to be a risk of getting a duffer. Wife is also unhappy as now she is convinced she bought me toss. Quite sad overall.

I do feel slightly responsible for you getting one though so sorry... if there is anything i can do let me know
Sorry to hear this also. I bought the 64gb version and the problems I have were minor. The box art and game summaries (metadata) disappeared for a few of the systems. I think this was because I turned it off prematurely. Also playing some of the older consoles caused the sound on my tv to stop working (atari 800, intellivision). I eventually got the sound working though. But will stay away from selecting the older consoles or use a different tv. Other than that, everything has worked ok. I know you don't want to spend any more money and I don't recommend this but they do sell just the sd cards (with the content on it).

I did a review on the Super Console X Pro some time ago and I've been really happy with that console, sounds like it's very similar in performance to the X cube you've reviewed. I'm mostly into the retro computers like C64, Spectrum, Amstrad, Amiga and Atari and I found it's great that you can plug in a wireless USB keyboard and mouse combo to play games on the Amiga and the other retro computers without any issues.
I'm pleased to read you can plug in a keyboard/mouse. I was just going to ask about that after reading some posts online about how they didn't work with this. That'll be perfect for games like Dungeon Master. Is there any way you could get old DOS PC games like Kings Quest running on this?

Great video mate. yeah I got the Super Console X King recently and I totally agree with your sentiments, I actually think this system is better value. But gee, to just plug in and play and have so many games at your instant disposal, this really is very hard to pass up for the retro gamer fan.
I've been wanting something like this for awhile now, and I bought this thanks to your review. You have great content, through and through, OSG. Keep up the good work, mate.
Looks like a good system at a great price. Only thing about comparing the cost of it to the Amiga Mini is that the Amiga people are actually paying for legally licensing all those games, and they're getting new molds made for all the parts - Amiga case, CD32 controller, Amiga tank mouse, and that all costs a lot of money. This can be so cheap because all the work was done by other people, and even the molds are mismatched clones from Playstation controllers and mini NES consoles. Just seems fair to point that out, if there's going to be any comparison.
I heard that the Amiga mini didnt (and couldnt sell with) the whdload stuff as that is for none commercial use only... and come on Robin... how many people are gonna pay 120 pound for a mini and not put illegal roms on... no on... i think yhey have like 30 confirmed games that tbh aren't really that great.... and how many of the kids that really did the hard work coding the games will see any money from that licensing? Im not saying its right but at the end of the day they are basically the same thing just one is pretending to do it legally
Thanks for this video. You mentioned it in the other video on which I responded, and this is exactly what I meant. This will suit me perfectly. So thanks a lot!🙏🏻
Wow I really need one of these mate. I hate messing on with pi’s etc so this is perfect. Chuck in the controllers as well am wow what a bargain. Definitely gonna get one!
Hey, thanks for the honest review, im another one that bought the console after I saw your vid, ...looks like a fun way to spend with the kids over xmas :)
What I would do is get an equivalent name brand microsd card and copy over everything. The cheap cards they use in these are notorious for going bad even if the other hardware is solid.
Ive pinned this cos someone else has mentioned the same thing, I have fell foul to cheap SD cards and USB sticks in the past and there is nothing worse than when they go wrong with no back up... Sandisk are the ones I always go for now

I can't believe how cheap that is for what you get? I would definitely consider getting one of these based off your review coz I trust your judgement and we seem to have the same taste in games. I use MAME and Retro arc on my Galaxy Tablet with either 8bitdo SNES controller or my arcade fight Stick but I can't emulate Dreamcast or PS1 or anything polygon based so this would be a massive selling point for me. As always great video mate.
Was trying to save money! Ordered one as soon as I finished watching. It’s not as cheap as you said for the version with 50,000 games but still a good deal. What was the music you played in the video? I found myself humming along, I know it well but can’t remember what game it is from.
Its a remake of an ocean loader from the c64. 50k games is a great package but really you could never play them all.... you could have a good go at it though lol
@@oldstylegaming listened to the video again. I missed the bit where you gave the right price for the 256GB version. I only remembered the price you gave for the base version. I figured I might as well go for the upgraded model. Great video though, it’s made my day.
I first saw this reviewed on the immortal John Hancock channel, he always tells it like it is. So was really interested to hear what you would say. This does appear impressive. I use my shield TV for emulation which does an amazing job on the Dreamcast. My son just got me a Pi 400 for Christmas and pimiga is awesome. I think if I didn't already have these systems and the C64 maxi I would be getting one of these as it really seems to do a good job. I'm more into older systems to be honest. 8 and 16 bit. Big Atari fan, pretty much have all the systems that appeared in the UK. I've never seen anyone testing intellivison emu. My favourite game was Tron deadly discs. I have that console too and the game controller is rather unique, I've not been able to match game play in emu due to the control method. Great review and channel!
I saw his too and although he is right about a lot of the stuff... he is very misleading on the N64 .... the emulation on that system on this console is pants...and i mean unplayable on certain games like goldeneye which lets face it is the game people want...i didnt touch on it in my review but went back on and checked it for people who asked in the comments...other than that and a few little niggles that most likely could be tweaked in individual emulators its worth the money although i have had some negative responses back from people who have bought them and had major problems... so i think its obviously a hit or miss thing on what the quality of the console you get sent
@@oldstylegaming I think the most important point is, these look the same and may have the same name, but I doubt they are all the same inside. The shield is a fantastic emulator and I've had mine for many years. But do you remember the ouya that did N64 very well before they pulled the plug on it. It had the odd stutter but very playable. I did immediately notice you did no N64. I have to say I spend most of my time on 8 and 16 bit games I do play Ocean Horn on my shield over and over, find it very relaxing after having given up COD and the like, my wife said it was making me too aggressive.
I just purchased the simulator today yeah I got to wait for a while to come in but lately I've been wanting to play the classic games and I only want a few games honestly I'm not a hardcore gamer so this is actually perfect for me
Maybe I´ll give it a go if I find a joystick, I grew up using joysticks/keyboards and I´m 100% right handed, that means in the arcades I had to cross my arms, and play with a gamepad controller with the left directional keys is simply IMPOSSIBLE for me...

China mate, everything from there is cheaper...which used to mean sub standard stuff but slowly they are catching up and their tech is getting better and better and still at low prices
@@oldstylegaming : …of course, with the caveat that cheap memory cards still cannot be trusted and therefore you want to copy over the game content to a (real) SanDisk product. 😎
Wow. This could be the subject of a great in-depth video. I'd easily sit through a half hour or 45 minutes of you checking out the different systems. Have you tried much of the Amiga games? Curious how well it emulated various games. Cinemaware stuff and Pinball Dreams especially. (I saw the list had over a thousand for the Amiga directory!)
@@oldstylegaming of course. However the simplicity of having it all in one little box that anyone in the house can use without learning how to use UAE... priceless. My wife would play Lemmings more often lol.
Hi i'm thinking of getting this Cube console or one similar. The only thing holding me back at the moment is that i'm a massive fan of the classic Arcade games and console games of the 70s 80s and 90s but ive heard that some or sometimes many of these games dont work, Is there any truth in that and what games didn't work? Also i prefer wired controllers so would any USB controllers work on this system. I would appreciate some advice before i buy a system like this even though on paper they seem Brilliant? Thanks. Regards Darren
yeah mate... i mean its no MiSTer but for 35 quid you cant really go wrong. if you think 35 quid for a rasp pi, 5 quid for a 4 port usb, case around 10 pound, controller these ones included are cheap but still go for 8 quid each on ebay, 5-7 pound for the 64gb sd card, couple of quid for the HDMI cable, say 5 quid for the power adapter.... that comes in at 64 quid and thats without anything on it... no brainer really
Looks like a interesting snazzy dude... though I can't disagree with ya on the name. Sounds like the kinda name a Dev's 5 year old cooked up when asked cause the Devs racked their brains tryin to think of somethin then just plain flat out gave up at it. :P (Though to be fair, though I can have Critical Hits at times, i'm on average not real awesome at Name Thinking myself.) Curiosity: Did problems with any of the games get addressed or were they Ported to this with all legacy bugs/problems totally intact? Or was determining this even possible for you during your hands on? For example, one PSP Game I once had & played was "Legend of Heroes: Tears of Vermillion"... wasn't a bad game, but had its flaws. Especially notable was times when the Dialogue Translation into English could be a real fixer-upper at times & there's even one scene where it looked like attempt to Translate Dialogue into English flat out fucked up & resulted in illegible gibberish that somehow never got fixed before Game Release.
Quite impressive that it comes with Amiga games, but the destroying enemies animation in Apidya doesn't seem right, it seems that it's missing some frames, but maybe it's just the recording.
Never played those before as I grew up with NES and PlayStation but I’m finding Amiga and Commodore fascinating. Love the unique sound design and that a lot of those games were unique to the systems and not ports.
@@oldstylegaming its turned up and oh yes it is brilliant, I cannot praise it enough. The only downside are the N64 games which keep crashing but that is more than made up for by all my favourite Amiga and c64 games being there. What impressed me most was that it came with all the ps1 Resident evil games for the PS 1 and they work perfectly. Happy days indeed, thanks again for the review.

Cool, thanks for the review, I just bought the Super Console X Pro from Ali Express as a Christmas present to myself! Does anyone who has the 256GB version of this (or the normal, "non-Pro" Super Cube X variant for that matter) know how much of the 256GB is filled with the pre-installed games and how much space is left for copying own stuff?
Im not sure mate... maybe not much if its got loads of games on... i have 2tb of games and theres still loads more to get... depends whats on i suppose.
@@oldstylegaming Okay, so I hope the manual is any good and the process of putting your own stuff on the console is more or less hassle-free. I'm not an expert when it comes to emulation and ROMs and settings, that's why I opted for this thing, as I find it all a bit too complicated on my PC for my taste. But I find the lack of Sega CD and Dreamcast games disturbing, so I definitely will have to pimp my Super Console X Pro quite a bit! 😁
@@oldstylegaming About 6 weeks or so, I may have just have had a bad one. I backed it up because when watching reviews on it, it was recomended. At least I have all the games on my hard drive now, so I can play them on my PC as well.

Harder to configure , but more customable. You can insert the games. But i have to agree that the price is cheap. I just hope that the gamepads have some durability
Yeah im saying they are good but really ive only had them a few days .... but as far as functionality goes on the couple of hours i played today it was spot on, one the batteries are in it feels no different to my PS3 one which is now coming up 15 year old and still going strong
@@oldstylegaming Yeah. It’s like Netflix though. I go on to play something, but struggle choosing, there’s that much choice! I bought Super Street Fighter 2 on American Import for about £100, when it was released. You’ve got 50,000 games on this, for less that that. It blows my mind how technology today makes that possible. But yeah, it’s worth the £60 I paid for it. Even if 10% of the games worked properly, it’s still worth it. Need a keyboard and mouse for Amiga/Atari ST games.
What version of the Pi could be inside though? 🤔 A Pi 3 on The Pi Hut comes in at £33 on its own. I doubt this is a Pi4. My Pi4 4GB cost £75 with a special case and the official plug. If it is a Pi, you don't even need to use that cheap controller. Plug in a 8bitdo Pro or Pro+ in there (it's my emulator controller of choice now). I know that most of us that use emulators don't have legitimate ROM files (it's impossible to 'own' MAME roms lol!), but to blatantly sell a machine with thousands of illegal roms is typical of AliExpress I guess. 😂
This will take any controller mate that you throw at it, its only emulationstation at the end of the day,... i would think its a clone of a pi but maybe not a clone of Pi3 as the emulation seems too smooth on DreamCast but could be wrong ...its been ages since i had a Pi
I think this system is just custom chips. The pi is not as powerful as the Nvidia shield. I used to bring the Dreamcast down to play my favourite game soul calibur, but now just use the shield and I really can't tell any difference, to be honest the shield is clearer on a modern display. Anyone that doesn't have either a pi or shield, the super console X cube is a no brainer after the great review.

I don't have one of these, but I'm surprised that you say it's the same on all systems. The NES and other 8 bit should be a piece of cake. I would consider getting another SD card and copying the one you have on to it. As it may be an SD card issue not reading fast enough. Fingers crossed!
Many thanks, I was thinking this myself, as it seems weird it is for all. It runs fine for a while, and obviously obviously emulators work better than others, so I swapped them over. But I can play say, a MAME, game like Sunset Riders with no issues for 20mins, swap to a PS1 game for 20mins, stuttering begins, and massive slowdown and sound errors, and then I can swap back to a game I know was working excellently from the get go, on same emulator, and have the exact issue from launch. So was wondering if a hardware issue, but hoping just a crap SD card, otherwise was a waste of 100e (wife went through another website and got a more expensive one, silly woman lol). Great video mate. yeah I got the Super Console X King recently and I totally agree with your sentiments, I actually think this system is better value. But gee, to just plug in and play and have so many games at your instant disposal, this really is very hard to pass up for the retro gamer fan.

Yours still working fine?
@@wanghotangho5803 I never got around to actually programming the system. :/
Just ordered it and can't wait.
It'll guarantee many joyful hours in this winter.

Yeah mate at the black friday sales price its an absolute bargain i think.

What was the music you played in the video? I found myself humming along, I know it well but can’t remember what game it is from.
Its a remake of an ocean loader from the c64. 50k games is a great package but really you could never play them all.... you could have a good go at it though lol

Ohh I'm definitely getting mine Monday the one with 117000 games
Yooo OSG my man that game I was looking for was Olli and Lissa ❤️💪
I have to say I spend most of my time on 8 and 16 bit games
I do play Ocean Horn on my shield over and over, find it very relaxing after having given up COD and the like, my wife said it was making me too aggressive.
What are the hardware specifications?

Have you found anyway to change the control for each system? Some of the NES games don't control the way I like. Thanks.
Its just emuelec and emulationstation so i would think you could. Start by googling emulationstation config controls for separate platforms
It looks very interesting but how can it be so cheap? The cost doesn't even cover the price of the memory card and controllers!
Hi i'm thinking of getting this Cube console or one similar. The only thing holding me back at the moment is that i'm a massive fan of the classic Arcade games and console games of the 70s 80s and 90s but ive heard that some or sometimes many of these games dont work, Is there any truth in that and what games didn't work? Also i prefer wired controllers so would any USB controllers work on this system. I would appreciate some advice before i buy a system like this even though on paper they seem Brilliant? Thanks. Regards Darren
It actually looks all right!
yeah mate... i mean its no MiSTer but for 35 quid you cant really go wrong. if you think 35 quid for a rasp pi, 5 quid for a 4 port usb, case around 10 pound, controller these ones included are cheap but still go for 8 quid each on ebay, 5-7 pound for the 64gb sd card, couple of quid for the HDMI cable, say 5 quid for the power adapter.... that comes in at 64 quid and thats without anything on it... no brainer really
Cant argue with this at the price of a family takeaway. I reckon there is a new line of videos you could go down here.
if they send me stuff ill review it and maybe give it away after as ive got too much
Just curious how something like this can be legally sold? You think Nintendo et al would go after them the same way they do emulation sites.
From China... they dont have the laws we do on copyright
Looks like a interesting snazzy dude... though I can't disagree with ya on the name. Sounds like the kinda name a Dev's 5 year old cooked up when asked cause the Devs racked their brains tryin to think of somethin then just plain flat out gave up at it. :P (Though to be fair, though I can have Critical Hits at times, i'm on average not real awesome at Name Thinking myself.)
Curiosity: Did problems with any of the games get addressed or were they Ported to this with all legacy bugs/problems totally intact?
Yeah i didnt notice that when playing and its the first time ive used this capture card so maybe its that

Just curious, got the missus to get me one of these as a recommendation from this channel (love it btw), but within 20mins of playing, pretty much every game is stuttering, and unplayable, regardless of whatever emulator I switch to. Just wondering what the workaround is, because otherwise, this is just a waste of money , really if it is a regular thing (and the wife is a bit upset, because she now thinks she got me a duffer of a gift). Am using stock 64GB one, but differs from the one in the video (is called Super Console X Pro), so wondering if there is anything I can do.
Many thanks, peeps!
But thanks for reply!
@@chrismcconnell8248 sounds to me that it's possibly over heating! Modern processors throttle back when they get too hot. Heat sink may not be fitted to the processor correctly, ie need thermal paste, in any case improving cooling may cure your problem.
If it's the SD card when you start a new game it should be ok for a few seconds, perhaps a minute, but then the card may not be fast enough.
Good luck
@@1960ARC Just changed the SD card now to a Sandisk one, so if that doesn't work, I suspect overheating then also, but literally what option I will have then with all honesty, as I am not really skilled or confident enough to start taking the thing apart to make better cooling or such.
