Lyrics:
Goin out the way I always do
Calling out your name
Trying not to hate myself
For getting in the middle
And shining every light upon it
Still I miss the way you’d hold me close in a cold wind
I caught you in our room staring at the light
I’d been up all night
Is this life and we’re just living it?
Still I wanna celebrate our love
I’ve been rollin like a sixteen
I can die on the floor
I’ve been shackled and delivered
There’s a girl out there with silence in her eyes
Her truth is in the dark
And I see you coming in view
Yeah I need you
I’m coming in two
In view
Ain’t no wind that I could feel in a fleeting rain
Turn around and rip my heart
Then look at it and say how you broke away
Aint no way to elevate to another line
With nowhere to go
Aint no chains to hold you in
To hold you to
to losing you
I was Hiding from an enemy
When something inside me died
Its hard to see real clear these days
With darkness on my mind
As I stare into the air ocean floor
And I wonder where I once was
Was I fallin’ through the air tonight
Then crumble into your arms
Is this love?
Are you sure?
Is it something you can control?
Im retired
Im in chains
Im in love
Im in pain
All these changes everywhere
Just go ahead and take my hand
Hold me close
Now let me go
Try and understand
I believe in all the power
In doing what we can do
We can try and learn to make it through
Then come out the other side
I don’t see you at all coming in view
How do we decide what we can do
I cant read your mind
Just gimme the truth
Only really discovered The War on Drugs in the last few months. Quite possibly one of the greatest bands ever. Can't wait to see them in London in July
Look through their songs/ albums especially live
This band is so under-recognized it’s ridiculous. How music like this doesn’t top the charts like the pop-garbage that does is beyond me.
I found out about this band from Showtime's Shameless
just discovered them today because of Luke Hemmings, who is also very under recognized. I love this song a lot
probably the best album of the last 10 + years
Probably the band since the 80s ended. Easily the best of this millennium.
Lost in the Dream by The War on Drugs I think is better both classics 🎵
05:58 to 06:23 so powerful and emotional at the same time...
Yes. Totally agreed
The album is great... But this song makes everything even better...
This is the pinnacle song of the album. It is a whole other level of extraordinary.
I've just listened to all the previous songs and all of them have a similar comment. Awesome band!
I liked thinking of a place better though
No you're right this is the Pinnacle
Especially 6:04. That piano part is just... marvelous. Feels like a breath of pure oxygen.
I've always thought the same for some reason that I can't quite figure out!
This is the band I've been waiting for for 20 years
the best of the 1980's grew up
Jared Louw Congrats. You’re going to be the best man at my wedding.
Jare
Best contemporary rock band currently operating IMO
@@chansomanmusic Yeah, it is.
This has it all. Poetry, soul, emotion and that wonderful guitar sound. I love this band. So much talent. Music to sooth your soul.
Hard to believe it’s been six and a half years since this song came into the world. I still remember listening to it for the first time with my brother, as we cut through the desert expanse of New Mexico’s I-10 corridor, headed west toward Los Angeles. It’s been a lullaby on so many sleepless nights, a deep comfort in the early morning hours. A lot has happened since then, but I’m still brought to tears from time to time by the lines “I’m in love, I’m in pain”. This song is a cry of the heart. Easily one of the best ever written. To Adam and every other band member, thank you for creating such a masterpiece.
I just knew this band, I'm sooo happy
This song is a 7 minute cleansing of the soul. Pure heart and emotion. Some of the lushest sounds I've ever heard and a very inspired arrangement to boot.
The best! Thank ya sir
Do you have more recommendations like this one? :)
@@diegopazos3879Bernard Butler " stay", New Radicals " gotta stay high"
A moment of silence for those who haven't discovered these Gods.
They are all such amazing musicians. They know how to play off each other. It’s quite spectacular, actually. The bass lines really get to me. They fit so perfectly. I would love to be in this band. Great work, you guys.
My soul was missing something till i stumble upon this album
Best band in the world right now, no discussion.
Their music is so special. The unusually long running time will leave you speechless and thinking
Personal things get lost in the thoughts and a nostalgic feeling envelops you. I feel like I'm on a train or plane on my way home, in silence.
The bass line is amazing
The Greatest Song, The Greatest Album, and The Greatest Band!
This is one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard. The melody, the lyrics, that piano... Absolute perfection.
i listen to War on Drugs all day long at work. helps keep me calm. they have made my life measurably better.
Every track is gorgeous but this one just made me stop what I was doing, sit back, close my eyes and reduced me to tears for reasons I don't even understand. The memories of some other time came washing over me in a deluge...
OMG!
Jon Berry did the same to me, I get goosebumps every time I hear it
The crescendo at 2:41 mark and that little sequence shakes me to the core
Bless your soul, Jon Berry.
I know, I stopped what I was doing, and have this on repeat since august when the album came out
Me too. I sobbed almost uncontrollably the first time I heard it, and it still has the power to make me well up. Partly due to the words, but also due to the sheer beauty and majesty of the music touching my soul
This band now fills the space in my soul where only Pink Floyd once occupied.
If there is a band that could fill my heart ... Well they are
pink floyd have never been a good driving band. this was written for the open road!
@@thomasclaus4249 I'm sorry to hear you think this way. Either you simply don't know, or maybe you forgot, but you have definitely made a mistake.
Have you ever tried to keep your speed down below 85mph while listening to Run Like Hell???
Let me refresh your mind:
th-cam.com/video/-AC0ucyisd8/w-d-xo.html
Perhaps you forgot about "Learning To Fly" and "Not Now John".
I do agree with you that WOD is an awesome band to drive to, I keep two of their CDs in my car. But...
If you can listen to that live version of Run Like Hell and not hit 80 miles per hour... you are on the wrong acid.
Take care
Nice thought, nice way of assessing The War On Drugs; I've only recently discovered this unique, sublime group of individuals, absolutely heart felt melodies, lyrics; would LOVE to see Live ,down here in NZ.
@@neilcarlson661 Glad you found them! I too would love to see them live, I haven't yet.
We have reason to hope, they are working on a new album right now. Should be done in 2021. With a new album comes tour dates.
At least that's how they used to do it in the old days.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope they play down there.
Cheers
This is my hymn, TWOD my church xx
I'm so thankful that I lived in the time to experience this band.. We are so lucky. All of mankind never had this. We do. Thank you Adam & Co.
The bit with the xylophone at @4:12 is just staggering.
I discovered this band days ago whilst watching BBC coverage of Glastonbury. At first as I flicked through the TV schedule, I thought 'The war on drugs' was a documentary! I watched the whole set and was blown away. They owned the crowd, with me too. I cannot believe I'd never hears of them before.
Me and my wife were exactly the same. We’d heard of The War on Drugs but never really heard one on their songs and then were just blown away by their Glastonbury performance and ever since have been obsessed by their last 2 albums. Truly magical and beautiful songs
Same here, thankfully we have found them while they are still active, so should be playing the UK in the next year or so hopefully
When I feel down I listen to these songs and read the comments, which are as beautiful as the music.
When the drums kick in at the start. Superb.
I just heard this song for the very first time and it is instantly one of my all time favorites. So dreamy, flowing and beautiful.
Like a young Bruce Springsteen, sail off to your dreamland trevor it's a beautiful song
I must admit that bands like War on Drugs rarely happen, and I am 60...
the fact that this is not a number one song on radio is scary. I can't believe someone can put out something so wonderful in every way, and get no radio appreciation. If he doesn't win the grammy 1/28, I"LL BE PISSED
I'm so glad he DID!
The droning end of this song reminds me heavily of the similar ending to "Brilliant Disguise" by Bruce Springsteen. Timeless ... this might be my absolute favorite album of all time, EASILY for the last 10 years. I've been coming back to these comment sections since 2017 and I don't plan to stop. I love you all.
Best band I've discovered in the past two decades. Easy.
THIS SONG DESTROYS ME! Love it!!!
Best album of the year. War on Drugs are by far the best band today. You can compare them to many other artists and bands but they are The War on Drugs. I start my long day ever day listening to these guys and I know my day is going to be ok.
In a year they will be U2 before Live Aid....they are Springsteen as BORN TO RUN dropped....I have to see the live show...
U2? No. Springsteen? Never.
I think this comment is in relation to public admiration
This song changed my life, and it's so cool to see how it's impacted others as well. (Young & Old)
This might be the best song Adam and co have ever written and that's saying something
Agree.......are you going to the first gig or the second on the 13th?
I'm going on the Sunday mate
arrrghh im going monday.Have a great time mate.
This is quickly becoming the song I hit "repeat" the most.
And ironically: no guitar solo.
the fact they won BEST ROCK ALBUM is an understatement. Best rock album I've heard in years is not a category, however
Ive only just discovered war on drugs tonight im blown away...ive needed this music in my life for years ...thrilled
Oh man, that driving bass guitar line, pure sonic awesomeness. Just like the rest of the song and album. What a masterpiece 👌
That intro! The moment the drums kick in at 00:17 is absolute gold.
Jan Himmighofen Totally agree. That BOOF through my headphones. Brilliant :)
just a beginning to the amazing ride of a song that this is
That’s what you call a hit 💚🎶☝️
When the 80s kick in...
This stressful period gets washed away instantly when I listen to this band. MAN
Peerdskerkhofruler Ditto. I just released some well-needed tears.
Yes, that's exactly what happens when I listen to this record, too. It's so, so good.
It puts me in a place that's better.....
Peerdskerkhofruler I’m glad others understand this magic. It’s real, and invaluable to those like me who experience high stress/anxiety (words that get thrown around all of the time, but I have a dx or two, or three). It works for me. It makes me want to dig deeper and I am drawn look down on the right track. I am thankful to be alive and have reached this kind of positive trigger through a music. Bless Adam.
Try riding a road bike at 20 mph or faster to this song in your ears. It’s something else.
I'm speechless everytime. They brought Springsteen, Dylan, Tom Petty and the best of 80's into life again
Now this.....when I first heard the low rumbling sax at the beginning, I was finished, by the end I was a puddle within a puddle of my own doing. Majestic.
Driving My VW Bus Lulu to this song on a summer night was heaven on earth!
I HAVE to dance at 2:41. This is one of my fav running songs. Thank you The War on Drugs for existing ^-^
This is Adam's writing at its best, IMO. My favorite on the album so far.
Cant. Stop. Listening. So. Good.
If there is a God, He listens to The War On Drugs. Without a doubt. ✌🏻
Yeah 💚🎶
God listens to metal. Look at all the hurricans bruh
I think of it more that with moments like this, God offers a glimpse into the vastness of the universe we can't comprehend or fully understand, just sample for a short moment in time (or 7:21min in time)
This is the best band I have seen since rhe 90s...Instant permanent fan!
One of the few groups I'd say doesn't produce music, they produce art. Incredibly grateful that I happened to stumble across one of their songs.
Oh man this song. Its a thing of beauty. A masterpiece.
Definitely a masterpiece and touches the soul!
exceptional timeless piece of art
@elijahfinch3349 that's an interesting way to self-promote
This is by far, the best song in the album for me. Every word he sings resonates with me in the deepest way. Thank you!
i cannot explain this enough but this song penetrates the innermost part of my soulllllll
This is fucking sensational
Let's call this album 'Stendhal syndrome'. This is gorgeous.
Thinking of a Place into this, the greatest way to spend 20 minutes I can think of.
truest statement in years
Thomas Lohuis I'd never miss on The Colour of Spring, it's absolutely fantastic my friend.
These guys helped me thru some serious tough times - talent is an understatement. Thank you.
The War on Drugs is conquering the world of great music!
Taco Veldstra and yet songs that terrorist over and over and over get (ironically enough) overplayed on the radio every day. I feel it comin',I feel it comin',I feel it comin',I feel it comin',. ( I counted it offer 50 damn times!)
War on Drugs should be played more!
Sounds like an all-time classic. Superb.
I keep coming back to this song,,,
How did these guys get so good???
Genius. I think this has to probably be one of the most beautiful, deep, and yet most beautifully complex songs I’ve ever heard. Must have taken forever to produce, and must have been excruciating to create, but one a hell of a ride.
Anybody Else getting chills when that amazing guitar chord kicks in at 5:03?
The War On Drugs is a great band. Wonderful songs.
Big fan here from Beirut, Lebanon.
Great new album.
Yep. This one's got me choked up. These guys never fail.
had goosebumps the whole time this song played.
Carianne R. Hixson same here but I don't know why!
Carianne R. Hixson Respek
My favorite too... I heard it when I was on my way home for the first time in 3 years, stayed on repeat for weeks... so fucking good.
After listening to them you start to see poetry in the world around you..
I must’ve played this song thousands of times. I just don’t know how to get tired of it...it has me in its grips. 🎶👍❤️
Hiding from an enemy
Something inside me died
Hard to see clear these days
Darkness on my mind
Best band ever. So much soul in this music.
That keyboard riff or whatever at 4:13 god damn
Dustin Smith Okay yeah my favorite part of the song
An aurora for the senses! These guys can take you from down so low to the brink of orgasm of the mind! I keep hitting "replay" on this one and when this CD gets played when I'm driving....loosing it, does not describe...70-115MPH.....bye!!! love it!!! The War On Drugs....Hands down! the best band out there right now! Guys? never stop doing what your doing and making the best music out there!!!
Of all the songs on this album, this is my favorite. The raw, explosive energy is amazing.
They capture and embody the spirit and sounds of the '80's more than any band I've heard in awhile. Being 49 and a teenager during the '80's I am loving this band. Thanks to KROQ in L.A. I heard "Pain" which caught my ear immediately. I haven't heard a bad song yet from The War On Drugs.
nor will you ever!
He nails it.
🏆
A massive thank you to the TH-cam algorithm for putting The War on Drugs into my autoplay. I don't know why it put "Thinking of a Place" in there you kind of music is not what I would normally listen to... but I can honestly say I have been missing out for the past 28 years!
This song is brilliant! I have been listening to, A Deeper Understanding on repeat for a week now and I cannot get enough it.
This album is next level stuff and I am utterly A Deeper Understanding. Keep up the great work.
omg what an a amazing album. i couldnt have wished for a better album, its soaring, drifting, lifting, heartwarming and breaking all at the same time...this song is perfect....Im in Love...Im in Pain....
This is great. One of the best on the album.
Bringing in the harmonica melody from 'Disappearing' at 6:10 was some inspired shit.
Every song on the LP is a wall of sound but never sounds congested. Simply amazing
that's a man in love, full of doubts, completely lost in love...completely committed and anxious and full of joy ....
how can they go from a slow song with so much feels to this exciting one with so many guitar, drums and piano levels woah legends
Mabel Romer
Good description, Mabel.
Hands down this song makes me cry. Just remeber the better times during my teens im 20 now but i heard this song when i was doing something that made me happy and makes me cry remebering those happy times wishing i could go back. This is a masterpiece
My favorite singer, my favorite band, my favorite song: “I’m in chains..I’m in love..I’m in pain”
Espetacular essa bandaaaaa,,,, The War On Drugs.......
Great night driving song
I'm on drugs.. with the war on drugs.. This is the real deal, masterpiece.
God that song. That drums and bass and voice. Perfect.
This song would have slotted so neatly onto Springsteen's 'Tunnel of Love'. And that's not a criticism by any means. Possibly the best band of our generation. After 'Lost In The Dream' I didn't expect anything close to it, such was its power, however, they've matched it, and arguably bettered it. Blown away.
yesackram agree completely
this album is AMAZING. It is what music should be...
I feel really alive when I listen to this, and I ask you the same thing, Is there anybody really alive out there ??
Me too. I feel the same. I feel that with almost all songs to The War on Drugs. It's a pleasure to listen them and know the rock is back in whole purity
Are we human, or are we dancer?
OK, after listening to this album a gazillion times (probably an underestimate) I can categorically state that this is the best track on it, and to add that - seeing them perform this in Manchester last year has sealed the deal. Just one caveat, all the tracks are just brilliant and it was a very tough call. I might change my mind tomorrow! I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.
The drift of Thinking of a Place RIGHT into that beginning piano riff of this song is one of the most brilliant moments in music to date. Same key and everything.
I hadn't heard such a good song in a while. Amazing band
This beautiful melody infuses me to those beautiful moments of loves that were lost. Those wonderful memories of such blissful nights and euphoric mornings of warmth, love and passion….
one of the songs the held me over the strange times we live in (2020-2021-who knows how long)
I have to remind myself im still in this world, until I open my eyes..
Such a wonderful, beautiful song. One of my favorites ever.
o som da minha vida , from Brazil
Absolutely brilliant.
Cuando los tiempos cambien..Vengan a la Argentina seran muy bien recibidos...Graciasssss...Son de otro Planeta..
