Thank you for posting, my coach told us to look up how to properly catch a pop fly and a grounder ,so I atomatically went to You because I have watched you before.
@@unbakedsub finally an educated man comes to my rescue. I couldn't live with this lie and at the same time didn't want to correct myself. have a good day.
I see you do more of a shuffle step with your footwork to throw the ball instead of right over left. I coach 9 year olds and teach right over left. Should I not worry about right over left (for a right hand throwing player) and let them shuffle if they want? Is right foot BEHIND left (right hand throwing player) ok as well? Not worry about it? Thanks. I love your content
I love the technique but I would like you to explain why you're going around the ball more please thank you. I would assume it's for momentum but I'm not sure.
Dont go around the ball as much as he was demenstrating... You're gonna wanna field it like in the video but if its at you fast don't go around it as much
On point except: I really don't like the teaching of funneling the ball into the stomach area. I know this is taught but this has also been rethought. Taken your glove to your midsection after catching the ball can result in one of two things: 1) the ball tends to get fumbled around somewhat when you fold your arms up to the midsection while trying to get the ball out into throwing position. 2) lots of fielders pull the glove away from the ball to early causing a mis catch or miss all together. The best way to field is catch ball like Justin is saying then be very quiet with the glove and move toward the target while glove , hand, ball go to throwing position.
Really enjoying all your videos. I do find though, as an auditory learner, when you slap your fist in your glove, it stops my train of thought and detracts from what you are saying. Tough habit to break, I know, but food for thought. Thanks again for your great video breakdowns.
My dad always taught me to field with my other hand under my glove because he warned me that putting the hand over it as a way to “secure” the ball can lead to an injury if the ball ever jumped unexpectedly
U can secure it after the ball hits in ur glove first if the ball hits skin first it can cause a injury a easy way to stop it from bouncing out is covering it after it hits leather

Great video! Any advice for fixing bad habits with grounding, specifically not getting in front of the ball. (Trying to catch it off to the side. )
Exactly what my coach teaches me!
Thank you for posting, my coach told us to look up how to properly catch a pop fly and a grounder ,so I atomatically went to You because I have watched you before.

im a 14yr old short stop for my high school JV team. what happens if its a rocket ground ball? how do we field that?
I'm in JV too. Just try to get the ball in front of your entire body. If it's too fast, try to block it.
Seth Williams Sprint to where you think it's headed and try to block it's path
Just stay down and body it up
Drop step and stay low

kinda hard when there’s a 50000mph bad bouncing grounder coming at a angle straight to smash your ankle

Yikes. Everything was great until you crossed the right foot over, in front of the left.
Why would you cross your feet like that while making a throw in the infied..that's more of an outfield throw...right
