Evolution Of Sonic's TIME UP/TIME OVER DEATHS In The Sonic The Hedgehog Series (1991-2024)

- In most Sonic the Hedge Hog 2D games, he has about 10 minutes to complete the level or else he'll get a Time Up/Time Over which will cause him to die and have to redo the level. Run out of all your lives and a Game Over will appear after the Time Up/Time Over. In most 3D Sonic games, the Time Up/Time Over doesn't exist except for a few like Sonic Lost Worlds, Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces. Sonic Sonic Mania was the last 2D game to have a Time Up/Time Over.
Oh, if you're stil reading this... This video took a lot of Time to make... No pun Intended.. Sonic Forces, I had to wait an hour just to die. :)

It's for 2P mode. If one player gets to the goal, the other player has 60 seconds to get the to the goal. It's so someone can't just try and sit and have the race drag on for the full ten minutes.

The only Sonic game I ever had a Time Over with was Sonic 3 Carnival Night Zone Act 2, thanks to 2 things. Level is too big for some strange reason and that dreaded lone spinning barrel I couldn't get off from.

HandsPlasticX Most 3D Sonic games don't even have a time limit. As a kid, I spent over an hour in a level in Shadow trying to do a mission and was expecting to die when I hit 1 hour. There's a reason why Sonic games don't have time limits that long lmao

That's not time over, that's more of doing nothing so sonic loses his patience.
That’s more of an automatic game over cause you lose all of your lives upon waiting 3 minutes. And also yeah Sonic does becomes very impatient and dies offscreen lol

Yeah,theyre the same, except one goes back screen then the noise, while the other one does the same thing a SA1 does
This is not a game over if you have plus than one life, this is too brilliant when you don't know how to complete a stage, if this happens, you'll respawn on a checkpoint with 0 time. This can sometimes jump a lot. If you die with one life or time is up, you will get to the very start stage.
I think my favorite Time Over is Sonic Rush, tbh. 4:29.
