I delight in everything about Lea Salonga. She is simply the greatest female singer that ever lived. Of all the beautiful songs I've heard her sing, this stands alone. Tears flow like the Rapids of a river as I listen to this artful rendering. Imagine if she was singing this song as the mother! From the first note you're transported into a world of love and dreams and endless possibilities. All because of a small child that a woman pins her secret longings to. Beyond exquisite, something beyond timeless. This song embodies everything glorious in Lea Salonga. The lady GOAT of all female artists.
Lea always convert songs into stories and make it as if it were the original version. She’s truly a gift not only to Broadway and West End, she’s a rare gift to humanity 👍
There's my childhood right there... Growing up during Disney's Renaissance and living in the Philippines, Lea is such an icon in the country, she has a league of her own.
Have been used to the rendition in her concert "Jazz at Lincoln Center" (It's in Spotify and everything's just perfect from beginning to end) but this one's good too.
Lea's voice is so clear and beautiful. She's my all time favorite singer. Thank you, Lea for sharing your talent with us. Happy New Year from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. 🥰❤
May I ask, where was this? You stated on the description it was broadcasted by PBS, but may I know the location per se where the performance took place?
This was a concert called "United in Song: Celebrating the American Dream" hosted by Chita Rivera. It was filmed at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in front of a live audience. As hard as I try, I cannot find out WHEN the concert was actually filmed! However, I think I found a press release about the concert from Dec 15 saying it was taped in front of a live audience and it included some photos, so it must have been filmed before Dec 15. (And that means that this would have actually been Lea's first performance in front of a live audience since her Dubai concert in March 2020, but the Christmas concert at the Expo in Dubai would have been her first solo gig.)
@@biglawturbo6703 It was from an unfinished musical from the 1990s, but Audra McDonald included it in her How Glory Goes cd released in 2000. I guess it was then that the song gained popularity.
I did wonder if Lea's version was expanded as it seemed longer than Audra McDonald's studio recording. But same lyrics, just slowed down to almost lullaby tempo. It gave a different story telling feel from Audra's wistful yet also kind of giddy feel. I agree, both versions are beautiful.
"A gift to Broadway." Thank you, Chita Rivera. Man, this is real singing.

When she sings a song, I feel like she's singing my story even if it is not my story.

RIP Chita Rivera :((
They really slowed it down. Beautiful nonetheless.
Do you know if this song was from a musical or not?
