Paula Cole’s voice is angelic. And coolest of all, in all of that crazy physically hard dancing & singing, she looks like she’s having a ball out there. I’ll bet it was a joy to be a performer on that tour.
And to think Cole replaced Sinéad O'Connor after she abruptly left the tour. Cole was only two or three shows into the tour when this video was shot in Italy.
@@jeffreymayes907 Gotta give Peter credit for launching Paula's career with this tour. She did an AMAZING job! "Don't Give Up" and "Please Talk to Me" are my favorites off this DVD.
Peter was one of the original artists to promote "World Music", and he started the W.O.M.A.D Festival in 1980 and it's still going strong. That's all after an extremely successful career in Genesis.
As you may know after the first year of WOMAD, Gabriel was in such debt he was overwhelmed. Genesis did a fundraiser to pay it off, so they re-united this one time. Beautiful friends.
Indeed Peter Gabriel, Paula, band and this reaction are magical.... I cannot sit still with African vibes either, men i wanna dance. Great reaction by Rosalie😊 this is my jam too...like whiskey with crunchy peanut butter.
Epic isn't it? &2 years old and remembering when it first come out! Top reaction.! Listen to "Sledge Hammer " You'll love it. Kudos to you !! And thank you for teaching !!!!😍🥰🤩
This has been described as one of the most purely beautiful love songs ever written. That live performance just seems like a joyful celebration. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a reactor so transported by a song, and very justifiably so.
The young lady is Paula Cole, who replaced Sinead O'Connor for the European leg of the tour. She later had a successful solo career. You've likely heard some of her songs, including "I Don't Wanna Wait" and "Where Have all the Cowboys Gone?". She did a phenomenal job in this concert. If you think your job is tough, try taking Kate Bush's part in "Don't Give Up"...
In my humble onion... Paula was much better than Kate Bush along side Peter. This being true on "Don't give up" but beyond that her vocal accompaniment on the entire "Secret World" tour was more than epic.
I hesitated watching based on the time but I'm glad I did, I cried again with you. The only way I can put this is , A sense of Humanity and Love. Thank you
What a joyous song. Always loved this one. Peter is passionate about world music and this song demonstrates it. His duet with Kate Bush on his song Don't Give Up is a MUST hear and see. He delivers a beautiful vocal on that one. Check it out when you can.
Kate Bush is another fantastic well to dive into. So much fascinating and beautiful music. I particularly like her 'Woman's Work' and 'Army Dreamers'. Powerful music and lyrics.
He’s an incredible artist. My favorite Genesis material is when he was with the band, true prog rock. I had the honor and pleasure of seeing him live once. The word is; new album and tour next year.
I saw Peter in concert on this tour (early 90's). This song was part of the encore, and was amazing to hear live. All around great concert. Peter ran around the stage for 2 hours. Incredible energy and stage presence. Peter was as amazing with Genesis, as he was in his solo career. Genesis was at the cutting edge of prog rock, and Peter's solo work was also groundbreaking. It is a testament to both Peter Gabriel and to Genesis, that I liked Genesis both with and without Peter (Phil Collins took over as the front man when Peter left) and also liked Peter's solo work. He is also a great humanitarian. I hope you can do more Peter and some Genesis songs.
I remember the story that when Gabriel was not getting the funding to get Real Work up and going, Genesis were "we got your back" and did a reunion tour with him, hanging him all the proceeds.
I've seen every reaction to this video that's out there but this is the first one that brought a tear to my eye. You didn't have to say a word. I saw how moved you were. Excellent reaction!
Peter Gabriel is incredible this track is pure perfection it's beautiful I have listened to this many times but not for a while I got so emotional listening to it this time your reaction added to it you have obviously got a great love of music like myself I would be lost without it I find it so rewarding in so many ways great reaction from you I feel so happy now
Great reaction, and as usual your face says it all! PG is one of the greatest musicians out there, with sooo many amazing songs and performances, and this is my absolute favorite. "When I want to run away, I drive off in my car, but whichever way I go, I come back to the place you are." What a beautiful thing to say. Please check out "Don't Give Up" from this same concert; it also festures Paula and it is also absolutely magical. Cheers!
Wonderful and heartfelt reaction to Peter Gabriel and his Secret World tour. Impressive live performance. Especially this song lifting my mood at any time... glad to see i'm not the only one...😊
You need to sit down and watch the entire Secret World Live DVD in its entirety. It was released the same year as Pink Floyd’s Pulse DVD, and these two concerts stand as two of the greatest live concerts ever, as far as I’m concerned.
Great Peter Gabriel. I'm portuguese and I choose the name of my son in 2003 in an homage to this great musician and composer and singer. My son's name is Pedro Gabriel.
'Shaking the Tree' is another one I love from this show. I think I saw this about 20 years ago on The Disney Channel, when they aired his concert 'Secret World'. He also did the song at the end of the movie 'Wall-E' playing over the end titles called 'Down To Earth' which was nominated for an Academy Award.
Ah! F I N A L L Y! 😍😍 Peter Gabriel was one of the few musicians that really put spotlight on the Apartheid regime in S.A. I've been around for 63+ years and fell in love with this song long ago. A song of life and love. Self actualized, accepting your flaws and the flaws of humanity. We're not perfect and he makes that point. BTW - That has been my ringtone for when my wife of 40+ years. Paula Cole is amazing, the bass player and guitarist have been with him for a long time. Tony Levine - the bass player, is a moving collaborative influence in most of his music. Yeah, I'm a bass player. LOVE your reaction enthusiasm - infectiously gratified as I was - Q? Were those tears? I had them when I first heard the song. Regards - Michael.
I was at the "Secret World" concert for the Philadelphia stop. Check out just about anything from that show by googling "Secret World Live." If you enjoyed this you will love everything else from that album / show!
Peter Gabriel! And miss Cole... and In your eyes... we saw all the beauty in your eyes Rosalie. Thanks! A video to go back to every half year, just to experience unity instead of division, trust instead of hostility. In fact, feeling human and whole once again. ❤️ I like to think this is also how the divine can be found in fellow men, no matter gender, race, nationality, whatever. Super cool when in a stadium with some 15000 music lovers and feeling the spark of this bond.
Peter Gabriel Secret World Live (1994) is a remarcable concert. The band was truly remarcable and the design of the hole show is very artistic. This particular song is taken from the fantastic "So" album launched in 1986. there is a lot to say about Peter´s music but i think is best to experience yourself in order to really get it (guarrantee you wont regret it).
In your eyes, the light, the heat In your eyes, I am complete In your eyes, I see the doorway to a thousand churches In your eyes, the resolution of all the fruitless searches Absolutely beautiful lyrics...

I LOVE IT WHEN YOUNG PEOPLE HEAR THE GENIUS THAT IS PETER GABRIEL . First saw Genesis in Leicester in 1973 ,been a gabriel fan ever since the rest were useless without him.
Peter Gabriel is an innovator. He was hugely popular in the late 80s early 90s. His 1986 album “So” was top 10 that year and is one of the top 100 of the 80s. He actually had more success after leaving Genesis than they did with him. He is a percussionist, and his music is very rhythmic and uses all kinds of instruments. Explore more Peter Gabriel, Solisbury Hill, Red Rain, Rhythm of the Heat, Sledgehammer, to name a few. With you psychology background, maybe Don’t Give Up would be my first choice. Enjoy!
Yes both Genesis and he had more commercial success after they parted ways. I am a fan of the Collins era of Genesis and Peter's solo career the music I love the best was the early Genesis era. I guess that is the prog rock fan part coming out.
It is musicians like this that create such beautiful art and give so much when they perform that show how much of a crime it is to pay minimal amounts on Spotify and other streaming services
Gabriel did his rehearsal for the tour in Rochester, NY. (The arena was not being used for the summer). The band and crew stayed at the Hyatt, a few blocks away. Mr. Gabriel rode his bike around town, getting to know people, and eating locally. When they were getting ready to do the final rehearsal, after about 2 weeks, he went to the hotel staff and distributed tickets. They wanted a fresh audience for the final rehearsal, he thanked the staff by playing this whole show to about 200 people. Class. Act.
Peter Gabriel's 1986 tour was best large live show I ever saw. "Biko" in particular was unforgettable. As it usually was in the apartheid era. It finished with the call response to the crowd until the crowd just keep it going. The lasers pointed straight up around the drummer - who was black - and only scattered into the crowd when he hit. The effect was incredible, like his hits were smashing a cage. And he would only hit until the crowd kept up the chant. It was up to us when to end it. And when we did, the light cage locked the drummer back in . Think about that. We did. All of us.
Peter has been my favorite artist since I was a teen. I've seen him in concert a few times and he never fails to draw out the exact same reaction in me. His songs hit so deep. I'm seeing him in concert in September and it will most likely be the last time he tours. I'm so thrilled to get to see him again. He's such a magnificent talent.
29 years later we can live this magical moment together; most of us probably completely alone in front of our technology. We are invested with the heavy responsibility to make these platforms a powerful force for GOOD.
I love this song. This whole concert is awesome. If you want a song of Genesis to react to, react to “Firth of Fifth” you’ll be amazed. It’s with Peter Gabriel as lead singer and Phil Collins still on drums.
Yes a great choice. The opening piano part is one of the best ever. I just suggested The Musical Box as well. Rosalie needs to do a reaction to a Genesis track.
The "Secret World Live" concert tour was designed and directed by French-Canadian Avant-Garde Theatre director, Robert Lepage, who had spent ten years as the artistic director of the Canadian National Theatre, in Ottawa. The round stage, covered by a dome, represented the feminine of our species, protected by the pregnant belly. A few metres away was the square stage, covered by a cube whose ceiling swung out to become a large video projection screen. The square represented the masculine, the hardness of the human species. Between the two stages was a motorized belt that carried the performers from one world to the other, like the eternal, universal river. Peter Gabriel is the single most responsible person for bringing tribal African polyrhythms to the West, most notably in 1980 with his anti-apartheid protest song, "Biko". Gabriel open our ears to African musics and opened our minds to the atrocities happening in South Africa, and opened our hearts to do something about it.
Peter Gabriel is a genius!!! My all time King of music. From the early beginning with Genesis until now. He is still going strong and I am going to se him in concert in Stockholm in may 2023. 👍👍👍
Here you go with some South African sound led by Paul Simon, with a world message! There is also his incredible album Graceland performed in South Friday, with their singers! It’s beautiful.
I had a great time hanging with you for this performance. Unlike you, I go way back to the early 70's with Peter Gabriel. He was a trailblazer both 'back in the day' with Genesis prog and as a solo artist. I suggest you try an early recording of Saulsbury Hill but after -you should continue with other songs on his Secret World Video. Thanks for your channel and the joy I have when sharing this great music with you, Rosalie.
This is music from my day. Miss music that is so much fun. Have listened to Pete since the 80s. 😊 Used this tune in the collection for the seating of the guests at our wedding.
I think if you love music this is just the most beautiful thing you will ever see. Peter Gabriel is a truly special person, and what at band. Just fantastic.
Lovely joyful reaction! Great that you include a lyrics analysis. Divinity is present when our eyes meet and we really see each other. The whole Gabriel catalogue is an artistic masterpiece, and Secret World Tour is amazing. Check out the tracks Shaking the Tree, Come talk to me, and Secret World. Or the whole show 🙂
I always say when I see this reaction that it should be the only thing we put into a time capsule for other planets and civilizations. It’s absolutely our best foot forward as a people. The energy, the joy, the collaboration, the celebration of spirit-maybe they’d take pity on us or at least give us a shot before they find out how we are to each other most of the time.
I waatch this video monthly. Gabriel, the uber-talented Paula Cole, and "The King of Rumba Rock", the late Papa Wemba, Tony Levin on bass... Doesn't get much better.
Just stumbled upon your channel, & your smile, energy & sheer joy is clear. Exactly what Peter Gabriel hits, its a spiritual gift to us, to me God blessed us with people like this, music that is uplifting. Really enjoyed & appreciate your commentary & sincere enthusiasm....think I'll stick around & see what you have.
Peter Gabriel's music is some of my favourite. I have the double CD that was released from this tour, I listen to it often, I've watched the video of this concert several times. This was the encore of the concert, the dome had come down at the end then was raised to do this final song.

A jaw drop is the appropriate reaction to Paula Cole's 15+ second long Aria.
This whole concert "Secret World" is awesome.I recommend watching it all.
Here you go with some South African sound led by Paul Simon, with a world message! There is also his incredible album Graceland performed in South Friday, with their singers! It’s beautiful.

Peter Gabriel was one of the main go-to-for-cool's in the 80's. This song is one step away from a really serious slow-dance song.
Your reaction brought me so much joy. 🙏
Gabriel performs World Music that used musicians and music styles from everywhere. He his some Great songs
Watch the whole concert and behold the artist named Peter Gabriel. It is on Prime.
They will be listening to this a thousand years from now.
