    I brought the same in 1974 brand new and it was a 4.2 Manual gee it brings back memories , I brought it from Peter Page Holden in Elizabeth , and I still have the receipts it cost me $5.500 then I picked it up on October 4th 1974 . I put the LE gold honey comb wheels on it and was pretty special. Nice job that you have done and you are enjoying it.

    When I was 15 (28 yrs ago) my best friend had an orange HQ Monaro with a 253, until today that was the best sounding car I have heard. I am soooo happy to hear the sound of your HQ and I love watching you guys just be blokes who love cars!

    Outstanding lads. I’m a Mopar guy now but when I was 19 I had a LH torana with a 253 and 4 speed. Used to love it. My exhaust was dumped at the diff also. Beefy sound. I’m not biased with old cars, love em all but my shed isn’t big enough 🤣🚗

      Hackshop Garage the dumb thing though is that I lost my job and I just couldn’t afford to run my V8 back then(I’m 48 now) so I swapped it for a GJ sigma! DOH 😖.

Aswell as a few other upgrades to make driveability a lot nicer like what you guys have done. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for your cars. All very beautiful old girls. Celica and Supra gearboxes are not strong enough for Holden red V8s. I've broken 6 behind a 253, a 308 and even a 202. Not built to handle the torque. They shift nicely but won't last in a daily driver. Every 60,000 km they'd catastrophically fail, almost like clockwork.

    Sounds pretty good for a thong slapper. Big Extractors do liven them up. Also a little 450 ~ 600 or a good Quradrajet. I used to run a 500 but when I changed it out for a sorted Quad it was a different car. Today a quad might be a bit scarce in the small size, I have also had good luck with a Edelbrook on my 318. Just jets and rods to change no power valves to worry about and It has good drive ability and isn't thirsty unless you cane it.
    It has turned out well. Maybe an MSD and a Crane H264 or 276 and it will be a beast. Not all Holden V8 cams are created equal however 253's are fussy.

    Should do a rear disc brake conversion boys, I did to my HX ute. I used VN rear disc & calipers had axles made at Taverna Chassis, Had brake lines made at Hoppers Stoppers with metric ends to the calipers & AF on other end to bolt straight up to original fittings...

    Looks great, and you've felt the benefits of modern engineering in that box upgrade, but honestly from experience, finish the LS. You'll realize how great a hq can be.
    The only thing you should NEVER do is rack and pinion. This is the one thing that takes away the "old school" feel, and makes it as boring to drive as a modern car.

    • @HackshopGarage
      @HackshopGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว
