      Hello Hadrian Junction 😊 thanks for popping by again, really appreciate the feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m so happy to finally be underway, the big lump in my throat is slowly subsiding 😂

    Really exciting to see the layout taking shape. Love the setting and a distillery sounds very cool. Based on my experiences, learn to embrace the fear as it can be a force for good. The fear can remind you to take time to think and plan before acting, but don’t let it stop you from moving forwards. We all make mistakes and there aren’t many things that are truly permanent. So we can always learn, adjust and improve as we go. Keep enjoying the ride as I know everyone watching you is excited to see where your journey takes you! Martyn

      Hello Martyn 😊 thank you so much for visiting and taking the time to watch my video, it means a lot to me. Thank you for the compliments, and the sound advice, you are so right and I will most certainly bear in mind all of what you have said. I know I will make many mistakes but it’s the learning that’s important 😊 looking forward to your next video. Have a fantastic week

    Glad you carried on after I left and, as another viewer mentioned, embraced the fear and came up with solutions and made it work! Well done. As I said get one track running, and running well, then enjoyment and satisfaction is there whilst you conquer the next obstacles! Signal box says "God moaning"......

      Rinke 😊 yes indeed, your guidance and help has been invaluable and it’s been such a great journey so far, cannot wait to do it again!
      Seems like we have a solid start here, on to the next!

    Hi Hylt, nice to see the layout taking shape and great that you got some help from an experienced model railwayer. Very wise to increase the length of the incline and test it. I have found that the track never quiet runs as well once it is fixed, weathered and ballasted. Not sure why but just factor that in. It needs to run perfectly initially otherwise its just going to get worse when its all down and ballasted.
    I like the way your incline crosses the main lines, it will be great to see locos passing over each other. Exciting times, good luck. Mark

      Hello Mark 😊
      So good to see you again, thank you for your support 😊
      Indeed it’s really helped to have some professional and experienced expertise in person, also just not to be alone is a nice change 😅
      Thank you for the tips about the track, I’ll definitely bear it in mind, and make sure it’s all as secure as possible. I’m also trying to make sure there are gaps for track expansion in summer 😅
      Have a brilliant week Mark, looking forward to your next video!

    Hi again,
    Excellent progress being made on the layout. You're experiencing the frustrations/delights of track planning that we've all faced and continue to face. Even Charile at Chadwick encounters problems, and he uses a CAD package!
    A rule I try to stick to is to use set track at consistent radii on a given curve wherever possible, as the temptation when using flex track is to overdo the curves and complexity just that little but, which can then lead to derailments. As for the incline, I think you're spot on: a 1 to 2% gradient should be fine. Little Wicket did some tests on gradients a while ago and that was his conclusion, if I recall. Steam engines - particularly loco drive passenger types with their larger wheels - can be a particular problem.
    I would also add 2 more TH-camrs to the list of refernce sites for layout builders: New Junction & 00Bill. Bill has/is constructing his new layout using basic - but highly effective - methods. New Junction is a little more technical in his approach.
    According to Hattons' database loco 92200 was Hornby R264. As you say, a pretty basic model but still passes the "1 meter test" (ie, it looks the part from that distance) pretty well.
    Cheers,
    Stephen

      @Proper_Chuffed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Stephen 😊
      Thank you so much for this advice, I hear you on the temptation to overdo curves, I’ve certainly been tempted to make the track a lot more interesting but as you can see, it’s fairly dialled down on most parts, so I think I’ve got it in a good place now.
      Yes indeed, have been watching both of their builds, almost wish they would be faster but I get this is a game of patience to make progress 😊
      Thank you again for your thoughts here, it is really invaluable

    Only 9F that had name was Evening Star which was green . In preservation another one was temporarily named . I think your model dates from 1982 when black 9F was reintroduced to the Hornby range . I’ve got an even older one from 1973 , but with that one the tender and loco are permanently coupled

      Aha, I thought as much but thank you for the clarity there Russel, much appreciated. The other would be Black Prince?

      @@Proper_Chuffed .yes that’s right . I couldn’t remember the name but the artist David Shepherd owned it and gave it a name . Really enjoying your videos . If you’ve got a distillery in mind how about naming it Glenmorangie lol

    I also need to build an upper circuit, which would the be The East Coast Main Line, but I havealready built the viaducts. The Metcraff viaduct kits when made uo measure five inches to the rail height. The layout boards where built only after most of what I wanted to use on the layout.. The Metcraft viaducts are five inches to the running rail, where as everything else they make is only four inches high, I intend to build two suspension bridges for one side and use two Hornby/Triang viaducts on the other side. I might get away with making a one Peco strip on top of the five inches. I am still waiting for a paecel from Peter Spares. I would bet Thailand Import have stopped it. I do not have to pay as much as you do, but then my salary is a lot less than yours.
    Good luck with the rest of the build. Martin. (Thailand)

      Hello Martin, your layout sounds quite complex! 😅 but it seems you have a wealth of experience under your belt. I would love to see how it turns out? I will also be using a metcalfe bridge on mine but yet to build it 😅
      Hope you get your parcel soon my friend. It’s always an awful feeling not knowing where it is 😂

    Not sure the 9F is the best model with which to test your track, as it has small driving wheels, one axle of which is flangeless, only 1 leading bogie axle, and no trailing bogie. Perhaps your Flying Scotsman, with it's Pacific wheel arrangement, would be better?

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point, I didn’t really think of that 🤔 I just thought more wheels is better to test. I’ll definitely run the Scotsman on it as a test now

    G'Day mate, for a name of your layout I suggest using Google Earth and have a look around at town names in the west of Scotland, It's your railway mate!. To give you an idea I have named my yet to be built layout "Thistle street" as my mother was born in Thistle st Glasgow. The station you see on my avatar is a station not far from Thistle street and was a LMS station but modellers license it is going to be a joint railway with LNER. Just a thought ! why not name your layout with the fictional animal that has short legs on one side so it can run around the mountains But only one way! it is called "Haggis" search when you can and you may get a laugh:)
    Cheers from down under.

    As a Scot I’m cringing as I type this, but how about ‘Dunromin’? As a heritage line it would almost seem appropriate (for once) as these locos were all done roaming.
