Fishing For BIG Catfish From A Private Dock During A FLOOD

- We had a lot of rain move in the area, causing the flood gates to open below the dam. With that being said, I fished the backwaters of the Chickamauga Creek hoping to catch some big catfish. I was able to land six catfish (the biggest one around 25 lbs) in a three hour session. The backwaters of any river will produce some good catfish when the water is high, fast, and muddy.
When: September 26, 2018
Where: Chickamauga Creek (Chattanooga, TN)
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Conditions: High, muddy, fast current
Bait: Cut bluegill, shellcracker, and skipjack herring
Tackle: Medium Heavy 8' American Spirit Nite Stick rod with an Okuma Classic XT CLX-300 L baitcaster levelwind reel spooled with 30 lb monofilament line with a 80 lb monofilament leader down to a Team Catfish 8/0 double action circle hook (carolina rigged)
Method: Bank fishing from a private dock

I love your channel! Never know how big the cats are until you get them in and they are trophy size. I have got to come to Tennessee and go fishing one day. I used to drive for U.S. Express and got through there regularly.

Awesome afternoon of fishing. They where all nice fish. I hate those Gar's when I was younger I don't remember them being caught as often as today I know the blues are bigger but what is the largest channel cat you have caught. Thanks for sharing!!!
I think my largest channel cat is around 15 lbs. They fight SO HARD!!

Hey Scott! When the flood gates are on below the dam I like to fish the backwaters. Catfish will move in and out of the creek to feed. I typically do very well in those conditions. I purchased the hook remover from Bass Pro Shops.

You should try those gar as cut bait, works pretty well around here for blues, flats and channels.

@@ChattCats If I am low on bait and hook one I will hack it up in half pound pieces with a machete and sling it out on 10/0 or 12/0 Gammas, works pretty good. We have gar the size of canoes down here.

Getting a double on shore is alot different than in a boat. In a boat you just leave one in a rod holder. On shore you have to grab them both or you lose your rod. 😁 Lol
Yeah, it was intense there for a little while, haha. I just had to calm down and focus on one fish at a time, haha.
