An SUV equivalent of the ongoing Corolla sedan is the 2025 Corolla Cross. The Corolla Cross serves a similar need even if it sits higher and has additional cargo room and all-wheel drive. For those looking for a little crossover SUV, this is a value-oriented choice. Though we examine separately on Edmunds, the gas-powered Corolla Cross offers a single engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder good for 169 horsepower.
The Corolla Cross has not changed significantly since its launch in 2022; so, it is likely that a redesign will be needed for 2025. Toyota did bring a redesigned Corolla Cross to other regions in 2024, hence it is more likely that an improved model will arrive in North America in 2025. Changes include a new front fascia featuring an integrated grille into the body. The hood's leading edge is similarly body-colored, and the headlamps feature a more formable design with combined sequentially illuminating turn signals. The revised inside features a bigger infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. Until Toyota unveils the 2025 model later this year, we won't know for sure if these upgrades are arriving to the U.S.-market Corolla Cross.
Most extra-small SUVs start at less than $25,000, so this segment of the SUV market is becoming more and more exciting to discover for sensible and entertaining packed with features transportation. From a driving standpoint, Toyota's Corolla Cross is just passable. Our all-wheel-drive test vehicle covered 9.6 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. Although not totally surprising for a car in its class, that is rather slow. Passing at highway speeds calls for some forethought. Otherwise, at city speeds the Corolla Cross is smooth and simple to live with.
Sometimes, given their smaller scale, tiny SUVs provide snappy handling; but, not the Corolla Cross. Everything about its driving and brakes is geared toward comfort. That might be all you need, but we hoped for just a little more pizzazz.
