It was not until recently that I discovered 'Mungo Jerry' as the source of the song, and that it is a 'skiffle' style of song, which was based on very old form of blues etc. music from the deep south here in the U.S. So I realized "this band, Mungo Jerry, did an astonishing job of creating a vibe that somehow put across the era of this music" - I would have never guessed, hearing it when I was really young there around 1970, that it was a just-released song. They did an amazing job capturing the style and feel of that type of music. It's a wonderful hit.

the hook is compulsive. it says summer more than the Beach Boys. and " life's for livin yeah thats our philosophy" is a life lesson. I was there when this came out and it dominated that summer.
