The appeal to Boondocks was my 13 year old humor when i was still a kid, the heavy focus on Huey and his break down of the political/cultural topics that would pop up greatly expanded my thought process in critical thinking and looking at the world in a more abstract way. Aaron did a fantastic job with this series and i wish media like this was more widely available for people to watch and process.
I'm glad I saw this when I was younger myself. I would consider my beliefs align with the left but sometimes things they do I don't agree with. It was okay to stand up wrong. I'm more moderate now and criticize it all.

This is what I'd always loved about the Boondocks. Aaron McGruder brought up some valid topics, about how people like R. Kelly are confused with victims of racism, when he's merely a sexual predator. And that aside, the way it's depicted is funny as hell, with it's clever and candid humor. Speaking as an African-American, Aaron McGruder certainly has my support, 100%!

Hunger Strike was one of the funniest episodes, also one of the most inspirational quotes even though it was super simple and although it technically doesn't make sense.. it does, when Huey says "What do you do when you can't do anything, but there's nothing you can do." Grandad: "You do what you can."

how did they get in trouble, they got the same backlash as most of those shows. The difference is McGruder left, and unlike Family Guy (which got canceled twice) and the Simpsons, the boondocks was not a weekly show that came on with a new season every year, it was like a handful of episodes every 3 years, which most likely means it was costing more money than it made. The Family Guy and Simpsons guys didn't leave, they stayed and kept producing episodes, making whatever backlash they encountered simply old news.
I remember as a child my dad used to get the paper and read the comics and when he was done he let me read The Boondocks comics and I just loved the fact that there was a black comic strip in the paper.

how did they get in trouble, they got the same backlash as most of those shows. The difference is McGruder left, and unlike Family Guy (which got canceled twice) and the Simpsons, the boondocks was not a weekly show that came on with a new season every year, it was like a handful of episodes every 3 years, which most likely means it was costing more money than it made. The Family Guy and Simpsons guys didn't leave, they stayed and kept producing episodes, making whatever backlash they encountered simply old news.

South Park on the other hand - if you think they never caused controversy, never had attempts to ban them or never had unaired episodes then think again. At the same time it really depends on the network and the networks connections. Some networks are a lot more lenient than others in some ways.

The boondocks was before it’s time... this was a truly great show and adult swim screwed the original team over which is why the creator left after season 3...and it shows in season 4...the animation was better but there weren’t any controversial issues and very little humour...which means mcgruder was truly the soul of the show...HBO tends to take risks and aren’t afraid of content when it comes to art...I look forward to the return and I hope adult swim regrets their actions everyday smh
