Incredible speed for such a big man. Many great karate people told me that Frank Brennan was the best in the world in his prime. Reminds me of a bigger version of my buddy Kelly Thompson.
My farther used to teach Sensei Frank Brennan . He is a unit but his height is very much deceiving. I believe he is only about 5feet 10 or 11 inches most . Just so strong & smooth technique
I had the honour of training once with Sensei Brennan many years ago at a course. The fact he got an Ippon against George Best with a ushiro mawashi geri tells you all you need to know about how good he was. He was in the KUGB the same time as one of my Karate heros, the late Sensei Randolph Williams, who I had the pleasure of training with multiple times. Another legend of his era.
Karate has changed over the years I'm a 2nd dan in shotokhan karate and have the privilege of being taught by sensei Brennan whilst on the England squad, I remember training and coming out of the dojo black blue, I didn't complain because although karate is a self defence art, in reality you have to learn to take the hits as well as give them. It's gone to soft in my opinion!
Like many others I remember training with Frank in his younger days. Perfection in motion, cat like balance and a speed of thought that is simply not real. Such a really nice, unassuming guy.
I remember at a training session (before a grading) when I was about 12, he said something to me, can't quite remember what but my response was "Yes" instead of "Oss" and he gave me a literall "clip round the earhole"!
Looks like someone deliberately put together a compilation of his rare harder contacts, for whaterver end I can only speculate. This man's control was generally excellent to the point of unbelievable.
FB graded me up to 1st kyu. He's one of only a few people I've met in my life whose charisma fills a room with awe. Watching him explain yoko geri kekome with his foot rock steady and 8' in the air was memorable.
It's very little known but Frank beat Alfie in st George's hall in liverpool ,both amazing fighters and how cool is it that both are from the same city ,legends like the Beatles
I can't find the comment but as someone else said, sport karate isn't the same as traditional karate. They don't wear head guards with traditional and don't keep hands low either- I don't think they score backfist, side kick or hopping round kicks either. Lyoto Machida is real karate? Karate isn't my cup of tea (although I wish I did Kyokushin instead of Kickboxing)
Put Frank in the MMA arena today against anyone and he would easily kick the hell out of them, showing how superior the traditional martial arts are, when well mastered, to any of these volgar, showbitz so called "fighting disciplines" of this time
@@kakuto435 Muay Boran is the precursor Muay Thai. And Muay Thai is definitely older than taekwondo. I haven't looked at the age of Fujian White Crane Kung Fu (karate's precursor) but if I'm not mistaken Muay Boran is older than that too.
@@kakuto435 If Karate had influences from Okinawan wrestling, Chin Na and Muay Boran then why is there a lack of takedown and groundfighting ? Lots of karate styles don't kick below waist either
@@kakuto435 Karate is good but if you want to be the best you need to combine it with other styles. That's why it's called MIXED martial arts. Lyoto Machida also does sumo and is a black belt in BJJ while Bas Rutten also learned submission wrestling when he did shoot fighting.

This is old school karate, real karate, not the weak flimsy after school nonsense of today. Just watch old school masters like yahara and kagawa etc. they have amazing control in demos but when comes to kumite it's serious business.
I agree that it was tougher and better in the nineties. I started training in in 1989. However, this seems overboard for even then. You are right about karate being flimsy today. It's ridiculous. In the school I'm training in now, they give you shit for blocking too hard and there is no contact in drills. In the nineties we were tough and that was just a part of karate. You had to be able to take pain as well.
***** C'etait pas trop vite pour moi. I saw it all. So what if his mawashis and ushiro mawashis were controlled. Il ne contollait pas ses zukis et is frappait les gueles de gens.
I've trained with Frank Brennan and he is brilliant, imposing and most of all... a complete madman
I remember training under him in the 80s. I've never seen human flesh move so fast. Just amazing. Excellent and precise control.

How tall was he roughly? Can’t find it online anywhere online.
The Kelly Thompson from Calgary? If so, someone to watch out for once he's had his pre Dojo coffee!
easly 6,4 and he has verry broad shoulders

DS222203: I agree with you on that. Hardly any free sparing and new ones moan when they get a controlled kick to the Head!? What's all that about!? 😂

Recommended watching this gentleman through a black belt in my class. My God what an amazing man. I study shotokan. This is insane
4:40 woowww what a talent!!!! this guy is really cool
Old School kumite, can't beat it, it's such ashame they've turned what was a beautiful sport into a farce!
I remember at a training session (before a grading) when I was about 12, he said something to me, can't quite remember what but my response was "Yes" instead of "Oss" and he gave me a literall "clip round the earhole"!
legend... shotokan tiger, shotokan isn't noted for its spin kicks, but this man is the crème de la crème
This is the result of years of his pure traditional karate practice.
Fantastic old school karate by sensei Brennon.
4:19 just beautiful Frank is great!!!

GREAT !!
Also unless you have trained or been in his company you cannot comment on his control or attitude towards karate.
I think he would have been the best at whatever sport he chose to train and compete in
Frank Brennan Wow
The best
ANSWER ME! if you ever trained in the red triangle youll know he always said that
Uma pena que foi gravado com uma tekpix.
