Personally, I like the idea of the Void Engineers serving as the closest thing the Technocracy has to a standing military. They protect the Earth from extraterrestrial threats, they police the border between reality and unreality, and they're the guys you call when the time for subtlety has passed and you *really* need a threat neutralized. In essence, they spend most of their time holding the line against horrors from beyond the veil, and occasionally work with the other conventions to quash a particularly problematic Reality Deviant or Nephandi threat.
