I always find that drawing from life helps me a lot to get back into enjoying art as I don't feel the pressure to conceptualize something clever.
My greatest issue is overcoming self doubt. I'm terrified of showing my art to other artists in real life (not on Instagram), and I've never been told anything negative, I just find it super intimidating.

Amen. I struggle hugely with self doubt and have been diagnosed as a chronic minor depressive. I hate showing work that is anything but up to a first class standard to other people. Needing to be a perfect artist actually seems to kill any desire to make art, so now I'm just making work and if it turns out bad, so be it. As long as I manage to make something.

It's crazy how much I can relate to what you're saying in your videos. I'm currently working on my portfolio and I usually scan Pinterest for inspiration and I guess I never really realized how sometimes, when I'm feeling a bit more depressed and less motivated how intimidating and really quite scary it becomes. Seeing these incredible tattoos and thinking "I love this style! I'm going to strive for this kind of quality" one day and the next thinking "My god, I'm never going to be that good, my work is complete shit, I'll never make it as a tattoo artist."
Walking away and doing something else that I enjoy really helps. I drew something about a week ago and was absolutely hating how it turned out, it just looked off and I couldn't figure it out. While watching this video I picked it back up, went back over it, and now I'm happy and ready to move on with it! Thank you for putting these things out there for other artists, it's so very encouraging!

I have been in a slump for 6 years!
When I used to be able to overcome this I would draw on bits of cardboard or envelopes. There’s something about a blank sheet of good paper that can be daunting.

Hi, just wanted to let you know how inspirational your videos are. You have helped give me the strength to become a tattooist, it's the only career I have really wanted since 15 but I never had the condfidance 1 kept telling myself I can't draw so I won't be any good. And now 20 years later I've gone fuck it i am going to persue my dream, I am teaching myself to draw and drawing for at least 1 hour everyday and have given myself 5 years before I go for an apprenticeship. 40 year old tattoo apprentice haha. Anyway thanks again and without wishing to sound creepy I am saving the left side of my neck for you to tattoo one day. Thanks again keep up the good work 😀 🐿️

Looking up a stupid amount of different angles of the thing I'm having a difficult time drawing (right now for me its an air balloon pirate ship), or putting that off to the side and going back to basic/artistically forgiving things like flowers or just a bunch of random shapes. Usually that'll set me straight but then after that ill go outside and give myself the time to get rid of the pressure I'm putting on myself. Great video as always.

thats a really good idea! sometimes drawing something from a different angle can help you understand its shapes in a new way! thanks for watching :)

I literally said to my boyfriend last night: “I should just mame myself so I never have to admit I’m a shitty artist” then I saw this video and it was like... light through the clouds. Lol. A SIGN!

I think when you have art block, your brain needs to adapt to something new.
