I had 2 westies over 30yrs. One lasted 16yrs and the next one 15yrs. I miss them fiercely but love watching yours. If only they could remain with us forever❤
I read recently that we have the happiest time and the saddest times with our pets and that’s so true. We had a wonderful 15 years with our first westie Jasper, and now Hamish has just overtaken him in age. He’s slowing down but will trot quite quickly when he hears the ‘treat’ word! I know that we are totally biased but westies are the best aren’t they! Thanks for watching 😊
It was very low when we went down that southern stretch a couple of years ago. We had to turn around as we were due to take the boat for blacking at Debdale Wharf after this trip. Thanks for watching 😊

Hamish is slowing down but still enjoying boat life with a little help getting on and off and up and down the steps, and having vlogs slow wanders along the towpath. He always seems to manage a quicker trot though whenever the ‘treat’ word is mentioned! That folding bike really isn’t up to the muddy towpaths. It seemed like a good idea when we first moved onto the boat, to help move the car, but the towpaths seem to be getting muddier and bumpier, especially this year with all the rain we’ve been having. Hi Caroline, a fantastic cruise as ever. 👍 Why does on some boats a place name appear? I saw "North Yorkshire" on one boat and "Marple" (Cheshire) on another, but other boats lack any placename (such as yours), so it can't be a registration ... 🤔

In the days of the working boats it was very common to have the place where the boat was from painted on the side, and some boat builders, Braidbar for example (Lord Vernon’s Wharf), have stuck with that tradition. Now a days it’s just personal preference. Some owners choose to have the place where they are from, or the where the boat was built, or when they are moored. The next video I am currently editing has Pete’s trip to Germany, and some footage just for you! 😊

That Caprese Pasta recipe is the perfect use of your home grown tomatoes Rainey! We did love looking after a garden when we lived on land and we do reminisce once in a while about the last garden we left in Texas. We bought a new build which had a blank canvas back yard, just a small lawn, and we created flowerbeds and patios and planted trees and it looked lovely. It was just often far too hot in Texas to sit out and enjoy it, especially when the mosquitoes were bad. Now we make do with our roof top flower boxes, and cut flowers and herbs in the boat, and our ever changing ‘back garden’ and views from the towpath 😊
The best laid plans etc...lol. One advantage to watching boating vlogs is to find out about lovely mooring spots and add them to our maps for future reference :)

Such sad news about old boy Dexter isn’t it. The time we spent with the boys, Hamish and Dexter were like a proper pair of wise old men together, wandering along the tow path. He will be missed for sure. It was certainly a hard task keeping Pete from going in the water! Glad we don’t have too many jobs like that 😂

Poppy has always been fascinated by narrowboat vlogs, when we would binge watch our favourites, researching our new life aboard, and how she gets to live that life for real! The older boy dogs were never that bothered with the TV at all! That folding bike is really not cut out for the muddy towpaths. It seemed like a good idea at the time, making it easier to get the car, but at least it creates some comedic moments for the vlogs I guess 😂

Lovely vlog guys 👍 I’ve been to the folly. From the outside as i approached from the canal It looked like the scene from Lord of the rings when the shire was all lit up for Bilbo Baggins birthday. If you haven’t watched the film you will have no idea what I’m on about 😂. They were very friendly and the meal was lovely. We didn’t have time to explore the village sadly as I had a hire boat and had a long cruise to get back. Hope you got all your boat jobs done Pete. You were lucky Caroline wasn’t feeling mean or you may of got very wet 😂. I’m sure my wife would have come up with a resin to let go 🤣

Just watching you tightening up a U shackle. Not sure if you are, aware, they do not need to be tightened up with mole grips. Finger tight is sufficient and then they are normally wired. This can be done with a cable tie. This will stop it from undoing from vibration etc.
Thankyou once again. Are you using Derwent pencils Pete, had a great day there years ago at their factory/shop when they had a resident artist. Took us through the different ranges and got us into doing artwork.
That must have been so interesting. Pete was using Stabilo Aquacolour water colour pencils and it’s taking him a little time to get used to, but he’s giving it a go 😊
I love ferrets and always wanted one but I've always had cats so I thought it might not be a good idea. It might have been OK... or maybe not. Heading to Applebee's for an Impossible burger this afternoon so tomorrow I'll try the Halloumi and vegetables. Looking forward to trying that. Glad Pete didn't go in the canal. 😊 That was a pink canopy! I liked it. I liked the yellow boat as well. ❤
Poppy was funny when Binky the Ferret first passed us when we moored up Dorothy! Not sure she knew what to make of it, but she didn’t bark and was just very inquisitive! I’m sure if she was let loose there would have been some chasing going on! That’s the first time we had seen one so take and up close like that. Applebees was one of my go to places, just down the road, when I lived in Columbus, IN. That and Grindstone Charley’s which I think is no longer there now! There were definitely far more around in Indiana than Texas. Let us know what you thought of the halloumi recipe! That was the first pink canopy that we have seen on our travels, and it was very striking and went well with the pastel green. We said it looked like it could be an ice cream parlour. Hope you are keeping well 😊

As a vegetarian I never did well at Applebee's but the veg burger changed that. The service that day was strange... There are only 3 Grindstone Charley's left in Indiana. They were everywhere! I did have the Halloumi with veg and it was very good! It's a perfect grilling cheese and very tasty. I would never have tried Halloumi without your video so thanks!

Pete is an all purpose person! How wonderful! I don't know that song. Was expecting the Benny Hill theme or spmething. Lol One vet told me zero aspirin. Current vet said give small dose of aspirin, watch for side effects that are worse than the original pain and stop if it's causing problems. My dog got arou d better for several months before it was......time.
Pete really does put his hand to anything, which is a huge bonus when you have a boat. He was the same when we lived in a house, fixing appliances and fitting kitchen cabinets and etc. he would have an idea what was wrong, then I would the research and find the part we needed, and he would watch a video and just like magic it was fixed! We’ve saved hundreds over the years 😂. The Benny Hill music would have been perfect but I most likely would have got a copyright claim on the video for using it, so I found another perfect piece of comedic music in the music library we subscribe to! When I’m editing and Pete can hear me scrolling through music clips he always rolls his eyes and asks if I’m going to make him look stupid on the video. And say no, not stupid, just entertaining 😂. We know our time with Hamish will be coming to an end in then not too distant future. It’s the hardest part of being a pet parent, and inevitable, isn’t it ❤️
Oh there were bruises for sure! With hindsight, it may have been easier to get into the canal to do the job, but nobody really wants to get into that water voluntarily! It made for some funny moments though 😂. Thanks for watching 😊

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for watching and commenting as it’s given me a chance to explain accusations of click bait from a TH-cam content creator’s point of view. Often it is clever wording perhaps, but not true click bait. I’m sure you have watched this full video, and you will have a seen a man hanging overboard, who then makes a tongue in cheek comment about it being a life or death situation. So the thumbnail and title are all in context with the full video. Also, in the description, you will have seen that it hinted that the situation had been exaggerated. Often when there are accusations of click bait, a viewer has just fast forwarded through the video looking for, in this case, the drama of a man in distress having fallen overboard and were disappointed. That is the problem with TH-cam. Sadly it’s the drama that attracts the clicks. People want to see boats sinking, crashes, fights at locks, people falling in and having horrible accidents, and the huge number of views on those types of videos prove this. So how does this affect TH-cam content creators that have often spent hours and hours creating free content for their viewers? They try and come up with a way of getting the most people to click on their video, and the only way of doing is this is by being creative with their thumbnails and titles. That is the one chance you have as a content creator to get views and not get hidden in the TH-cam algorithm. A little like newspaper headlines, and the title, cover and blurb on a book. You want people to pick your video out of so many that are presented to them. TH-cam analytics tells us that over half of our viewers for any video are not actually subscribed to our channel. They will never get a notification that there is a new video available, but if enough people click on our thumbnail and view the video then TH-cam will push it out to more viewers that it knows enjoy narrowboat videos by showing it in on their home page, or as an ‘up next’ video that starts playing automatically. Therefore we have to be creative for the TH-cam algorithm to decide to push it out. If enough people do not click, then it will not even be recommended by TH-cam and hours and hours of work are just hidden with a very low number of views. This whole TH-cam creator experience has been a massive learning curve for us, and to see our channel steadily grow to have viewers enjoying our videos from all over the over the world has been wonderful. Something that we started just for friends and family to see our adventures has turned into a fabulously supportive online community. Of course we welcome constructive feedback on our channel, and are constantly fine tuning our videos based on that feedback. We may use clever wording to attract people to watch our videos and grow our channel, but not click bait. Every thumbnail and every title on our channel is in context with the video if the viewer chooses to watch it through, rather than just fast forwarding to find the ‘promised’ drama. I will agree that there are channels that habitually use true click bait for something that is not even included in the video, a crash that never happened for example, but it is often the viewer’s interpretation and their expectation that is at fault. We have never done that. I hope this has explained it a little more for you, and thank you for your support 😊

Such sad news about old boy Dexter isn’t it. The time we spent with the boys, Hamish and Dexter were like a proper pair of wise old men together, wandering along the tow path. He will be missed for sure. It was certainly a hard task keeping Pete from going in the water! Glad we don’t have too many jobs like that 😂

That’s always lovely to hear Trevor! And good to her that Mr Toto is enjoying the videos too! Poppy has always been fascinated by narrowboat vlogs, when we would binge watch our favourites, researching our new life aboard, and how she gets to live that life for real! The older boy dogs were never that bothered with the TV at all! That folding bike is really not cut out for the muddy towpaths. It seemed like a good idea at the time, making it easier to get the car, but at least it creates some comedic moments for the vlogs I guess 😂

Lovely vlog guys 👍 I’ve been to the folly. From the outside as i approached from the canal It looked like the scene from Lord of the rings when the shire was all lit up for Bilbo Baggins birthday. If you haven’t watched the film you will have no idea what I’m on about 😂. They were very friendly and the meal was lovely. We didn’t have time to explore the village sadly as I had a hire boat and had a long cruise to get back. Hope you got all your boat jobs done Pete. You were lucky Caroline wasn’t feeling mean or you may of got very wet 😂. I’m sure my wife would have come up with a resin to let go 🤣

Just watching you tightening up a U shackle. Not sure if you are, aware, they do not need to be tightened up with mole grips. Finger tight is sufficient and then they are normally wired. This can be done with a cable tie. This will stop it from undoing from vibration etc.

That must have been so interesting. Pete was using Stabilo Aquacolour water colour pencils and it’s taking him a little time to get used to, but he’s giving it a go 😊

Poppy was funny when Binky the Ferret first passed us when we moored up Dorothy! Not sure she knew what to make of it, but she didn’t bark and was just very inquisitive! I’m sure if she was let loose there would have been some chasing going on! That’s the first time we had seen one so take and up close like that. Applebees was one of my go to places, just down the road, when I lived in Columbus, IN. That and Grindstone Charley’s which I think is no longer there now! There were definitely far more around in Indiana than Texas. Let us know what you thought of the halloumi recipe! That was the first pink canopy that we have seen on our travels, and it was very striking and went well with the pastel green. We said it looked like it could be an ice cream parlour. Hope you are keeping well 😊

One vet told me zero aspirin. Current vet said give small dose of aspirin, watch for side effects that are worse than the original pain and stop if it's causing problems. My dog got arou d better for several months before it was......time.

Pete really does put his hand to anything, which is a huge bonus when you have a boat. He was the same when we lived in a house, fixing appliances and fitting kitchen cabinets and etc. he would have an idea what was wrong, then I would the research and find the part we needed, and he would watch a video and just like magic it was fixed! We’ve saved hundreds over the years 😂. The Benny Hill music would have been perfect but I most likely would have got a copyright claim on the video for using it, so I found another perfect piece of comedic music in the music library we subscribe to! When I’m editing and Pete can hear me scrolling through music clips he always rolls his eyes and asks if I’m going to make him look stupid on the video. And say no, not stupid, just entertaining 😂. We know our time with Hamish will be coming to an end in then not too distant future. It’s the hardest part of being a pet parent, and inevitable, isn’t it ❤️

Oh there were bruises for sure! With hindsight, it may have been easier to get into the canal to do the job, but nobody really wants to get into that water voluntarily! It made for some funny moments though 😂. Thanks for watching 😊

That’s an exactly what I said to Pete about his art work! He should have been far more proud of it than he was, but he does tend to be a perfectionist. That first attempt ended up in the fire sadly! Holding him out of the water was certainly a hard task! Good job it wasn’t too long of a job 😊

Some titles bare a 'promise' that is never fulfilled and I think that is a shame.

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for watching and commenting as it’s given me a chance to explain accusations of click bait from a TH-cam content creator’s point of view. Often it is clever wording perhaps, but not true click bait. I’m sure you have watched this full video, and you will have a seen a man hanging overboard, who then makes a tongue in cheek comment about it being a life or death situation. So the thumbnail and title are all in context with the full video. Also, in the description, you will have seen that it hinted that the situation had been exaggerated. Often when there are accusations of click bait, a viewer has just fast forwarded through the video looking for, in this case, the drama of a man in distress having fallen overboard and were disappointed. That is the problem with TH-cam. Sadly it’s the drama that attracts the clicks. People want to see boats sinking, crashes, fights at locks, people falling in and having horrible accidents, and the huge number of views on those types of videos prove this. So how does this affect TH-cam content creators that have often spent hours and hours creating free content for their viewers? They try and come up with a way of getting the most people to click on their video, and the only way of doing is this is by being creative with their thumbnails and titles. That is the one chance you have as a content creator to get views and not get hidden in the TH-cam algorithm. A little like newspaper headlines, and the title, cover and blurb on a book. You want people to pick your video out of so many that are presented to them. TH-cam analytics tells us that over half of our viewers for any video are not actually subscribed to our channel. They will never get a notification that there is a new video available, but if enough people click on our thumbnail and view the video then TH-cam will push it out to more viewers that it knows enjoy narrowboat videos by showing it in on their home page, or as an ‘up next’ video that starts playing automatically. Therefore we have to be creative for the TH-cam algorithm to decide to push it out. If enough people do not click, then it will not even be recommended by TH-cam and hours and hours of work are just hidden with a very low number of views.
This whole TH-cam creator experience has been a massive learning curve for us, and to see our channel steadily grow to have viewers enjoying our videos from all over the over the world has been wonderful. Something that we started just for friends and family to see our adventures has turned into a fabulously supportive online community. Of course we welcome constructive feedback on our channel, and are constantly fine tuning our videos based on that feedback. We may use clever wording to attract people to watch our videos and grow our channel, but not click bait. Every thumbnail and every title on our channel is in context with the video if the viewer chooses to watch it through, rather than just fast forwarding to find the ‘promised’ drama. I will agree that there are channels that habitually use true click bait for something that is not even included in the video, a crash that never happened for example, but it is often the viewer’s interpretation and their expectation that is at fault. We have never done that. I hope this has explained it a little more for you, and thank you for your support 😊
