Hi Jeffrey: You will need to start with really sharp tools and carefully pare down toward the point taking really light cuts. The final cut needs to be with the bevel of your tool riding on the surface to be pointed. Try it and let me know if it helps. Good luck with your turning. Nick Cook

How do you grind your 1/4" bowl gouge? You said you grind it more like a spindle gouge. What angle do you grind it ?

I made some spinning tops and Honey dippers and I have a hard time making a sharp point on the wood.

Parting the ends off of the wood or last step before the project comes off the lathe .
