Thank you for mentioning adding a new spur of the trolley. Point Loma/Rosecrans/Airport needs light rail in the worst way. There also needs to be a spur of the trolley, going all the way to Oceanside and connecting the North County Sprinter.
Not really sure that needs to happen considering the coaster runs from there to Oceanside and connects to the sprinter there. It would be better use making the coaster double tracked to increase frequency and have a trolley/rail line run from San Diego to Escondido to connect that side of the sprinter
@@thedelgadic1 Either is fine. My point was connecting North County to the rest of the system. The coaster is a heavy rail system and designed to be a commuter system. You'd have to not only double track it, you'd have to add a lot more stops and times. The reason I mentioned the trolley is because it already goes to UCSD and La Jolla, and It would be a shorter distance to go to Oceanside than it would be to go from Mission Valley to Escondido. That being said, I'd be all over a trolley line from Mission Valley to Escondido, via the 15, and another up and down the 805.
I'd make sure it's a new Trolley Line and not just a spur. Further branching the existing Trolley Line would limit Green Line frequencies to 15 min, which is unacceptable given how fast Mission Valley is growing.
Great video! I love Liberty Station. It’s not on the level of Seattle’s Public Market, but it’s pretty good. An awesome redevelopment. Trolley/MTS expansion is needed, and I’m glad you touched on this.
The airport is planning to add either a people mover or light rail extension, routed south of the runway to reach the terminals. I remember reading about it ages ago, and also that this line would possibly extend to Liberty Station, rather than there being a light rail branch north of the airport. It would make sense in combining the transit needs of the airport and of Point Loma area to do it this way I think, but either way this city/region needs to do all that and more.
I appreciate this video of Liberty Station. I lived across the street in Loma Portal for several years and used the paved trails in Liberty Station several times a week. It would be nice to see more public transportation, and more housing density, however I think the NIMBYs will fight it every step of the way. Sadly, Rosecrans and Liberty Station continue to be overrun with homeless/unhoused with NIMBYs fighting every effort to provide shelter. I guess it's easier to sit in your overvalued 100 year old property and ignore what is going on outside. I found homeless individuals sleeping in our bushes, passed out on our porches, and many living in their cars parked at Liberty Station continually. I hope the Midway District continues with redevelopment as it is trashed and needs a good overhaul. Library Station remains a destination with many things to see and do, if you have deep pockets. I would love to see more variety in the Public Market, besides prepared foods, perhaps groceries and fresh produce. And the airplanes in this area are not for the faint of heart. Ultimately the intolerable noise from the airplanes drove me out of the area. Subscribed and looking forward to more great content!
Liberty Station an absolute gem. I used to work there at Stone Brewing, still work nearby, get my groceries there, and run there twice a week. It's a 15 min ride from where I live (Little Italy) but it's a fun ride there. Also, there is no way a light rail could make it up the hill to Point Loma Nazarene University, let alone down to sunset cliffs.

My brother and I used to ride our bikes to NTC to use the indoor pool at the North end, or occasionally the Pitch and Putt 9 hole golf course. Are either of those still there? On a different subject; your light rail transportation suggestions that I agree should be pursued. Unfortunately in my experience, The nature of SoCal developers of retail shopping and housing tend to favor the quicker profits of letting the customers arrive by car. These bureaucrats also tend to conflict with the bureaucrats advancing transit means. Both in San Diego and in my own neighborhood in the OC, not to mention around LAX in LA I have watched the public rail or even bus transit developers get close to providing integrated services into large popular venues get shut out by the managements of the shopping centers or airports which seem to want to control access strictly on their terms. It seems to call for a higher level political decision, which can be imposed without executive egos getting in the way, but goes against the zeitgeist of our times which calls such impositions, even those which are generally beneficial to all, socialist. No one calls publicly maintained streets, or a large building's free elevator services that, but so is the tenor of our times.
I wish I coulld live near Liberty Station as a local, but it's a great urban amenity/neighborhood nonetheless. It's also tbe end point of the Embarcadero multiuse trail to downtown, so I often make a stop at Liberty Station when biking around the city.
Make sure the new Light rail serving Liberty Station is not simply a branch off the existing Blue and Green Lines but a completely new alignment with no shared tracks. Branching off the Blue and Green Lines would create a bottleneck that would limit Green Line frequencies to 15 min, unacceptable given all the TOD in Mission Valley.
Unfortunately, you have have just so many coffee shops, brew pubs, gastro pubs and the like. Seriously. There should be some serious "work" space that might hold creative types of businesses, such as architecture/sesign/engineering type businesses.

@@alexhaowenwong6122 at that point, you could split the lines in half and have a new line.
First time viewer and resident of San Diego. Great video! It was cool to hear about the previous uses of the businesses and restaurants I patron now.

Thank you for the superbly executed, informative, and enlightening video! I am watching from the Netherlands.
Great video!!! Looking forward to more!
This is one of my date spots
Good vlog. Wish I knew of this place when my mom was living down in Oceanside. What a good project.
Great job! And you have a very soothing and easy manner to listen to. I wonder how Liberty Station is for older retirees like myself.
San Diego is a Jewel ⛪🌴💎 Point Loma alone is a neighborhood with many hidden Gems, Like mini beaches at the harbor! Gotta love Defense City 🛡️
Been here many times had no idea was a military base
Thats why I'm here! :)

I love walking in liberty station one of my fav places to see in San Diego 🫶🏼
TIL Five Guys made it to the West Coast. How much market is there in California for roughly In-N-Out quality but at twice the price?
Seriously, I have no clue.

SF says otherwise!
Underrated location
Oh, I walked through here from the airport to old town! The waterfront park toilet was incredibly sketchy, but hopefully it's improved since 2019
Once the old NAVWAR building is gone and becomes the new sports arena plus housing, there will be even more park space in that area of the city.

Change the green line to go to liberty station, replace its downtown connection with a westward extension of orange line
Been there a few times, never knew
I've been to Liberty Station before.
You are exploding the heads of all the NIMBYs out here lol. I like your line proposition.

Uh, Point Loma isn’t exactly a hidden gem in San Diego…. 😊
Do you live in SD??
Lived in San Diego for years, now in LA.
Trader Joes went into the old bank, not the commissary?
San Diego mentioned RAHHHHHHHH
WHAT THE FUCK IS BAD PUBLIC TRANSPORT?!?!?!?!?!!
I'm sorry, but I think you misspoke when you suggested a church added was simultaneously "massive" and "244 s.f."
Easily 224,000 sq ft. It's giant and makes it awful to park or drive in/out during their services and events. 👎

Could you imagine the nightmare of having a trolley by the beaches? It’s already gridlocked. Not sure this would improve anything
It's gridlocked because of the lack of alternate modes of transportation...
Sadly Point Loma is NIMBY central. I can't believe SD Intl airport still has no Trolley connect.
Also good luck for slightly denser housing- the Point Loma NIMBYs are the fing WORST excuses for people in the city.
Literally a boring low density mall that’s half a parking lot
Did you watch the last half of the video?
