    This is funny I just saw this channel, We buried can goods and Many other things in Ten 8"x5'' PVC pipe two feet down all in one line five years ago (2017) when I installed my sprinkler system (Texas) and had use a trencher. Put sand on top of the pipe and topped with SOD we dug one up this last thanksgiving (2021) and everything looked like your stuff and I didn't use any glue on the cap. I now know the rest will be fine I can feed us for two months with each pipe....Good Luck All

    Does anyone know of a good substitute for Cosmoline?

    I always put a bottle of water or two in mine, because I figure after digging it up, that would be a real nice thing to enjoy immediately after all that digging.

    If you have the oversized receiver hitch on your bumper it fit like a socket

    place a bead of petroleum jelly around the inside lid and seal then the outside edge with plumbers goop (which will harden) to open simply cut the edge with a knife - when you bury a cache make sure to put rusted pieces of metal at different levels in case someone is using a metal detector - place a row of two handed size rocks atop the pipe after placing about a foot of soil

    Use a longer stick with the paracord...more leverage!

  • @raykarl2119
    @raykarl2119 7 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    What I did to my tops, was to cut a line through the square tip of the top. This way you just use the back of your knife to open the cache. It works and is easy and fast!

      Good idea, that would definitely make it easier to open.

      use the saw to cut a notch in the stick or use two sticks clamped on the top.

    Cut a slot in that square block on the cap,with the saw, then use the large knife l, horizontally asa flat head screwdriver. Or just cut the plastic pipe

    Hv been thinking about either pressurizing or drawing a vacuum on pvc tube. Which will eliminate condensation?

  • @roverman985
    @roverman985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Vacuum seal items before putting stuff in tube. And vacuum sealers are cheap. So if tube does leak your items will still be dry.

    I'm doing the same test. I planted my cache in May 2018 and I will be digging it up in May 2019. If it survived the harsh winter we have where I live then it will survive anything. Amazingly I have a lot of the same things that you do. I guess great minds think alike.

    I'll tell you. I have had Gerber, leatherman and still have some. But if you want a good cheap multitool, check out Sheffield from Walmart. Even comes with a sheath. I've cut screws with the wire cutter part. The saw is good. They are just all around great for the money. Especially for a cache item

    Don't use the silicone caulk. Just use 6-8 wraps of Teflon tape on the threads before screwing it on. It will be water tight and easier to unscrew after being buried for years.

    • @herculesbrofister265
      @herculesbrofister265 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@GPOLICE no, that's not what he was saying at all. he was saying caulk is unnecessarily difficult to remove and tape will be just as effective, perhaps more so, because that is its intended purpose - to be used as a thread sealant.

    Cool idea with the para cord, but I'd use the longer branch, like a cheater bar on a wrench.

    Can you share how deep in the soil was your tube buried? Sandy, gumbo soul ? Was water near by ? Thanks

  • @RossPotts
    @RossPotts 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My first thought is to lay down a strand of the internal string of 550 cord during initial construction as a way to pull and break the silicon seal.

  • @reveah61

  • @timmooney3020

    Try cutting a groove in the cap square about a 1/4 ", that way you could use your knife like a "T" handle for easy opening.

    Shoulda kept that stick about 18 inches long and tied one end to the lid. Use leverage to your advantage. Ypud have gotten that lid off in seconds.

    Maybe if you use the proper pipe dope because I'm a plumber which is a great pipe GoPro dope and you take two sticks about the thickness of your thumb and take them up with that when you squeeze them together and have the pipe between your legs you'll be able to unscrew it later cuz you don't have to have it super type the pipe dope the gray Pro dope does not lose its lubricant but also helps seal just for your info for future catches like that

    Definitely have tool buried next to it to remove the cap. That knife were to slip you're in deep trouble. Also we should label the caches. You need a tourniquet in there as well as a water bottle. tampons for wounds. Radio. Flashlight.

    Wood saws work great on PVC.

  • @draaks1
    @draaks1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You could always use one of the thinner pieces of cordage inside your para cord and us it to saw through the pipe underneath the threaded coupling since in a true survival situation you probably wont be reusing it, at least not to store stuff. I've used thin string at work before to cut PVC where a saw won't fit or if it has wire or something in it you don't want to damage and its actually pretty quick. Never tried with something that large so don't really know which would be quicker, but its always an option.

    The survival pipe is not made of PVC plastic but rather ABS plastic. PVC is always white while ABS is always black. That is how to tell the difference.

    In my experiments, in extreme climates. It a good idea to bury it in a second tube.

    • @SwornHeresy
      @SwornHeresy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This may just be a good idea in general to be on the safe side. I'd rather overkill than underkill. But I'd only do that in caches that you want for longer than 5 years

  • @John-ib1zo
    @John-ib1zo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have long been fascinated with the idea of caching things, whether treasure or equipment, for whatever reason. However, in light of recent discussion about a "polar shift", is this wise? Without discussing possible conspiracy theories, NASA has indicated that there might be a magnetic shift of one degree every five years. This could effect GPS (depending on how much shift has occurred between resets of the system), but it also effects compasses. Using a compass to find a lake or cabin, one degree is not significant, but if you are using it to find something buried in a single square foot space, you could easily be off enough that you might never find what you are looking for. Do you recommend using markers?

    Now why would anybody want to use abs sewer line tubing especially with threads I had a stash in the ground I had 2 rifles 1 handgun 45 7 magazines for each rifle for magazines for the 45 each rifle 400 rounds for the pistol I had 250 rounds and the variety of different vacuum-sealed food knives strikers for setting campfire and a few other odds and ends instead of using ABS sewer line piping with threads I used schedule 80 10 inch on the OD PVC pipe I had em Caps or both of them easy on easy off I did use silicone or the caps when I put them on and you have to have some kind of a bleed to let the air out when you compress the caps on so I drilled a small hole in one of the caps and threaded it happened Cole but before I did that I did put in a silicon moisture absorbers now I wanted to vacuum seal the inside with the moisture absorbers in there so I wouldn't bought oxygen eliminators you can get those off of eBay or you can go get your hand warmer break it up and put it inside them put your cap on in a hurry and then put your plug-in and it will vacuum seal the whole tube the heat will burn me oxygen up on the inside now your PVC pipe is completely sealed vacuum sealed I had mine in the ground for 4 years I took it out checked everything everything was perfect that's how I do it
