I have tried approximately 8 sets of measuring cups and Oxo is by far the best. I purchased 3 sets of the Oxo ones because I like them so much. I'm glad ATK agrees with me!

I really appreciate that the TV series has always featured recipes from around the world. In particular, I am impressed that the show is aware of classic Mexican dishes like chilaquiles, carne desembrada, huevos rancheros, and the list goes on. By featuring these dishes, the show acknowledges that they have a deserved place of recognition. Additionally, that allows home cooks like me to prepare the foods of my grandmothers, both of whom have now passed on. I have a great set of KitchenAid measuring cups which range from 2 tablespoons to6 cups. They work great for me and the larger cups are molded to fit perfectly on the edge of a KitchenAid stand mixer and not slide around so you could gradually add ingredients without it slipping and the measurements are both printed and are in braille. This is great for me because I am blind.
Outside of the stand mixer category, and even that is arguable; KitchenAid makes crappy over priced products. Stand alone products can most often do better than their mixer attachments, last longer, and cost less.
I love my Kitchen aid measuring cups. They have taken a beating and are going strong 10 years later. The only sucky thing is the printed size, which I have has to redo a few times.

Mad thumbs, we can do the math. It's a matter of preference. I have a common recipe that breaks down 2 cups in thirds, and it's way more convenient for me personally to measure 3x 2/3 than 6x 1/3. If you don't like my preference, go make your own thread to extoll the virtues of minimum increments.
* Can openers. And yes, they have, with an update in January of 2017 that reads "After hearing feedback from test cooks that our winning can opener could not open certain cans, we gathered more than 110 different products from 41 different brands- including cans varying in size from 3.75 ounces to 40 ounces--and used one of our winning Fissler Magic Smooth-Edge Can Opener to open them all. After opening more than 100 cans, we only found two products the Fissler could not reliably open: Nestle Carnation Sweetened Condensed Milk (14 ounces) and Hunt's Diced Tomatoes (14.5 ounces). The Fissler was able to open all other products by Hunt's or Nestle, including the 28 ounce size of Hunt's Diced Tomatoes. Despite this, we found the Fissler opener remarkably easy, safe, and comfortable to use, even after 2 years of daily use; it remains our winning can opener, but we have downgraded its rating from Highly Recommended to Recommended." But their winner costs almost $40.00; I think I'll stick with my old-fashioned can openers that aren't "safety" rated, but cost less than $10.00 and open every can I've ever bought: www.webstaurantstore.com/swing-a-way-portable-can-opener-with-black-handle/407407BK.html
I do my best to find metric recipes so I can weigh my dry ingredients. I also need to mention that I have scoops in my flour etc. so if I am measuring with cups, I use the scoop so the flour is not packed.
Could you test measuring spoons. I just purchased a double side set of measuring spoons and the liquid side was not accurate. I used a scale and all the tbsp where off by 2ml and they where highly rated on amazon. Now I am not sure about buying any of them, because when I tried to overfill them the water started pooling into the handle because it had tapered transition instead of sharp corner to contain the liquid and get accurate measurements. I was really exited about the double sided measuring spoons. 😒
Wow the no.1 is really well designed with the magnetic handle! you know how annoying when you need to use the cup with all those unwanted cup attached or super annoying when you separate them and the cup you need at the moment always where you can't find!
I miss my old Tupperware measuring cups...lost to kids and time. What I most miss about available cups now is the complete set: 1 cup, 3/4, 2/3, 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4. Newer sets don't have the 2/3 cup and when measuring shortening...a single 2/3 is the easiest.
I would like a set that has lots of measuring cups in it. 1/8, 2/3, & 3/4 included. Maybe even 2 cups anything like that out there with your other requirements.
I have my GRANDMOTHERS measuring cups and spoons(And I am 85). The size is embossed in the bottom of the cups in big letters so I do not need my magnifying glass to read them. I also have her Aluminum Wearever cookware set too. (And when the pots warp on my Electric range I simply use a piece of wood and a hammer to straighten them) Yes - I suppose that it is nice to have these features but I have never had any problems and I can give my money to my Grandchildren's School funds. When I need a new kitchen gadget - I go to the local flea market first. My Kitchen aide Food Processor was recommended by ATK about 20 years ago, It does the job, I cannot find enough reason to even look at the current tests. The new ones may be better but I do not need one. My only problem - for some reason I have trouble finding a can opener that gets through the entire top without leaving a place it is still attached.
They want the free TH-cam videos to be as in-depth as the PBS TV and America's Test Kitchen Web-site reviews, but don't want to financially support them.
I think these are people who don't watch the show but watch clips of Lisa the gadget guru online and wrongly assume that's the "old style" of ATK equipment review. Otherwise how could so many people think Adam is new when he's actually been there since day one? No matter how many people explain that Adam has always been the equipment reviewer and the reviewing style has not changed, they just keep leaving these stupid and often insulting complaints on every equipment review video. We all like Lisa too, but this is not her thing, and there's no excuse for attacking Adam. It's annoying enough that I think I'm going to have to stop reading comments on the equipment review videos. It's starting to feel like deliberate trolling.
I just bought kitchenmade stainless steel cups yesterday.. I considered the oxo but I didn't like how the measurements were not embossed into the metal because they could eventually fade
Great review but after only 4 years I'm replacing my Oxo cups because the magnets are completely rusted and flaking. They definitely don't stand up to the dishwasher!
I prefer the Ikea stainless steel measuring cups because they have more of a sloped bottom which prevents dry ingredients from sticking in the “corners” so dry ingredients slip out easier. These measuring cups are also one piece and are quite sturdy..
Agreed, but when you're working with a recipe that gives only volume measures, before you can weigh your ingredients out, you need to know the numbers for conversion, i.e., how much a specific volume of each ingredient actually weighs.
I agree with you. I have loved my Tupperware set so much that I included a second set. A feature that I have enjoyed is that included is a 1/3 cup and a 2/3 cup. I would never buy a set without thirds included.
My dry measuring cup set is from Tupperware. Old, but like new... Almost. The ink wore tot, YEARS ago, but the markings are still legible , having been 'engraved on the bottoms and on the cup handles. Liquids are measured in my 2 C. measuring cup for liquids. Same treatment. Ink is gone, but d/t Tupperware's foresight, their products are still disable.
Not all measuring cups will give the same measurement as your liquid cup. I see (dry) measuring cups sold on Amazon indicating 236 ml (US cup) 240 (legal US cup) and 250 ml (metric cup). Liquid measuring cups commonly use 236, while a lot of dry cups go with the 250 ml. I suspect some of the name brand cups go with the traditional US volume of 236 ml, while a lot of cheap plastic cups (and most all cups sold outside of the US) use the metric cup, or 250 ml.
I wish they had reviewed or mentioned their review if in fact they considered the Oxo measuring SPOONS. I dont like the ones they chose in that test and was wondering how accurate the Oxo spoons were...
@@michellekelly2937 youre timing is perfect THX Happy Holidays (wondering how you know theyre accurate.....are you a scientist or did you weigh ingredients to compare or something?)
@@mahumike7531 No, I am not a scientist, but I am an avid baker and cook! I have 4 different sets of measuring spoons that I randomly use (Lee Valley, OXO- plastic, my grandmothers "antique" aluminum measuring spoons, and another set that I like, but they don't have a name on them.) To "test," I used the Lee Valley tablespoon and poured it into each of the 4 different tablespoons that I have. I did the same with the teaspoons, and they all measured EXACTLY the same! I think if you buy a quality set of spoons, your measurements will be perfect! A few grains more or less is not going to make a difference in the long run. Now, if your 1/4 teaspoon is actually a 1/2 teaspoon, that could be a problem, but I can't ever see that happening. Honestly, I've never questioned whether or not my measuring spoons were accurate. The only time I've noticed a difference in measurements is with measuring cups. I have purchased dry measuring cups that were slightly bigger than ones I already had, so with those, you do need to be more careful. They are not all exactly the same!! Hope this helps!! Happy Holidays to you too!
@@mahumike7531 Update!! Just in case anyone is curious....I just figured out why some of my dry measuring cups are bigger than others (thanks to a You Tube video!!). Here in Canada we use the metric system for measuring. Some of the cup sets are metric (1 cup = 250ml) and some are the standard (240ml = 8oz or 1 cup), which is what you will find in the United States. I, personally, prefer the "smaller," more standard size cups when baking. I have to be careful when using the bigger metric cups, depending on the recipe and how much dry ingredients there is. That extra flour can make quite a difference!
The problem with the Oxo which keeps me from buying them is the set is incomplete. It lacks 1/3 and 2/3 cups. A 1/8 cup is also useful. So no Oxo cups for me.
The introduction says it all..."i've had the same measuring cups for 15 years, but i've never really given them much thought".. if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
Personally, I would like to see the runner-up, since I object to plastic (OXO uses a lot of plastic, with negative impact on my willingness to buy their stuff). I agree that a single piece is required, stainless steel is a must, clear markings that are distinguishable by eye and by touch are a deal-breaker, accuracy shouldn't even need to be mentioned, and - just for fun - I want more than the standard 4 pieces. That last is the only negotiable factor!
Liquid measuring cups always have extra room above the amount so that the liquid doesn't splash out. I have Pyrex 1, 2, and 4 cup sizes. Have had them for almost 50 years, no chips, and never broke one yet. The markings are still clear and they have been through the dishwasher a lot.
mad thumbs Equally, sure, to some degree. Still makes cups have the same error with so many others that grams dont have. Further, moisture content rarely changes inside a home to a sufficient degree to cause a noticeable change.
Seems like OXO wins about 70% of these. Will admit, I’m pleased with all the OXO that I have. Even so, rather stunning how they do so well, all the time.
It's pretty clear that OXO puts a lot of effort in the design of their products. I learn not long ago that the Good Grips line from OXO is designed with people with arthritis in mind. So. I guess that intentionality in the design helps them to make good products.
Actually they're all over the place. - All-Clad is the best pan, but don't compare it to our favorite cast iron pan because that would trash our sales of cast iron or show that we're not scientific enough. It's as if they don't read instructions on their products either (black pan vs glass vs tin).
@@madthumbs1564 They have never said All-Clad was the best pan. They said All-Clad was the best stainless steel pan. And while there is overlap with all pans, no two types of pans are a direct replacement for each other. If you're not a good enough cook to understand that then I don't know what to tell you.
Another important feature to me is that the cups have flat bottoms so they stay where you put them…I’ve seen measuring cups with curved bottoms…not for me…
True, one cup is one cup in the same country. But if you compare a one cup measuring cup from U.S. to Europe to Canada (where they have multiple cup sizes!) to Australia to Korea to Japan - they are all different!! In this age of sharing recipes via the internet that can lead to failed recipes and confusion!
Please please please return to the old format of Equipment Review. They felt more professional and more rigorous. Where every test had a reason, every result had a breakdown. Each component of equipment was tested and explained. The winner of each test was broken down into WHY exactly it came out on top. This just reads like a sad, cringey (sorry) infomercial/food network-esque thing. Please just change back.
The old format is still being done; you just need to go to the PBS TV shows or the ATK Web site. The Cook's Country format is intended to be more "homey."
Oxo makes good products except the grip. Dish water gets under them. Very annoying on their micro graters. I don't think there is a need for rubber grips on kitchen utensils.

So you buy new set of $20 measuring cups every 5-10 years... big whoop. Or just borrow or buy an electric engraver and engrave them yourself if you want engraving so bad. Anyone that works with tools should have an engraver.

I got a custom one.....it was made to measure
I hope you get all the thumbs you deserve.
rensing is a micro observed importance CORRECT
Love it!!!
I have those, yay.
Same. They're great. I can't remember if I saw this video (this is a re-do or repost) before buying them, or after buying them.
Have you guys done Can openers anytime in the recent years?
Love equipment review!
My set is an ATK test favorite made by the C.I.A. many many years ago.

OXO makes best measuring cups❤
Could you test measuring spoons. I just purchased a double side set of measuring spoons and the liquid side was not accurate. I used a scale and all the tbsp where off by 2ml and they where highly rated on amazon. Now I am not sure about buying any of them, because when I tried to overfill them the water started pooling into the handle because it had tapered transition instead of sharp corner to contain the liquid and get accurate measurements. I was really exited about the double sided measuring spoons. 😒
We have a measuring spoon review on our website!
Thank you so very much!
I wish they still did the old format with Lisa.
Wow the no.1 is really well designed with the magnetic handle! you know how annoying when you need to use the cup with all those unwanted cup attached or super annoying when you separate them and the cup you need at the moment always where you can't find!
*inhales in shock* "I hate tippy cups!" lol
OXO design team RULES!
Oxo products seem to be excellently thought out, producing quality items.
I would like a set that has lots of measuring cups in it. 1/8, 2/3, & 3/4 included. Maybe even 2 cups anything like that out there with your other requirements.
Tupperware. You can order on line but it doesn't have the 1/8
I have my GRANDMOTHERS measuring cups and spoons(And I am 85).
I have used a set of Tupperware for 30 years, no problem here.
love these reviews not sure what everyone is complaining about
They want the free TH-cam videos to be as in-depth as the PBS TV and America's Test Kitchen Web-site reviews, but don't want to financially support them.
Seriously had the same Tupperware set for decades. Bonus it includes a 2/3 & 3/4 measure
YES! I have a set too! They are the best and last forever, literally! I love how neatly they stack together and stay that way.
Me too! Love the bright orange 🍊 2/3 and 3/4 as well
I just bought kitchenmade stainless steel cups yesterday.. I considered the oxo but I didn't like how the measurements were not embossed into the metal because they could eventually fade
Thanks, hi!
Actually, when looking at the photos of the Oxo cups on Amazon they seem to have rounded corners.
Great idea. They look the same, but they are not. Co gratis on your great book, Mediteranean diet, you outdit yourself!!! I loved it, diet does work..
What about best electric salt/pepper grinders?
Peugot electric salt and pepper grinder is best
i does a wed sumtem
That is a $90 + pepper mill though!!
"You're a 'lucky' woman I'm here to do some thinking for you...." talk about language as an expression of values and culture.
another oxo good grip 👍
I'm using a tupperware measuring cup set that was my mom's, I know it's at least 30 yrs old.
More reviews please 👍🏼
Yes like all-clad vs cast iron, santoku vs chef's knife... er wait... they won't sell products we don't need if they did reviews right.
Or just skip them completely and use a scale. Much more accurate, versatile and easy to use. ^_^
Most scales I won't rely on for tea spoon increments.
Agreed, but when you're working with a recipe that gives only volume measures, before you can weigh your ingredients out, you need to know the numbers for conversion, i.e., how much a specific volume of each ingredient actually weighs.
Only if we had the internet..@@Olive_O_Sudden
I still use my 30 plus years old Tupperware cups and spoons for measuring.
I agree with you. I have loved my Tupperware set so much that I included a second set. A feature that I have enjoyed is that included is a 1/3 cup and a 2/3 cup. I would never buy a set without thirds included.
@@janicedare8832 yes, neither would I.
I really prefer the old format
This IS the one and only format ATK has ever used for equipment reviews. Let me guess...you're a Lisa fan?
I can highly recommend the Lee Valley stainless steel measuring spoons! A purchase you won't regret!
@@michellekelly2937 Thx so much. Americas test kitchen said there was huge differences in those they tested which is why I asked. Happy Holidays
Ur video crew is stuck in the 90’s my dude
The problem with the Oxo which keeps me from buying them is the set is incomplete. It lacks 1/3 and 2/3 cups. A 1/8 cup is also useful.
So no Oxo cups for me.
Can’t beat Oxo
The introduction says it all..."i've had the same measuring cups for 15 years, but i've never really given them much thought".. if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
I have used those for years, I hang them on the fridge with the magnets though
Personally, I would like to see the runner-up, since I object to plastic (OXO uses a lot of plastic, with negative impact on my willingness to buy their stuff). I agree that a single piece is required, stainless steel is a must, clear markings that are distinguishable by eye and by touch are a deal-breaker, accuracy shouldn't even need to be mentioned, and - just for fun - I want more than the standard 4 pieces. That last is the only negotiable factor!
So expensive. I might as well go out and eat.
How to identify which one are the dry measuring cups ?! Can someone help
Dont use cups, use grams. Much more accurate and much more reliable. Cups are changing based on how compact the stuff is. Dont use cups.
Grams are equally effected by moisture.
mad thumbs Equally, sure, to some degree. Still makes cups have the same error with so many others that grams dont have. Further, moisture content rarely changes inside a home to a sufficient degree to cause a noticeable change.
@@madthumbs1564 Sure, but they aren't affected by how compacted the granules are, and moisture isn't that big of a variable most of the time.
Noobs DeSroobs Unless what you are doing is delicate in nature, cups work just fine.
I converted last week. Far better
ATK equipment reviews in a nutshell... just buy Oxo!!
Actually they're all over the place. - All-Clad is the best pan, but don't compare it to our favorite cast iron pan because that would trash our sales of cast iron or show that we're not scientific enough. It's as if they don't read instructions on their products either (black pan vs glass vs tin).
They make great products, but they don't always recommend the Oxo offering.
OXO is usually good in my experience.
@@madthumbs1564
They have never said All-Clad was the best pan.
They said All-Clad was the best stainless steel pan.
And while there is overlap with all pans, no two types of pans are a direct replacement for each other.
If you're not a good enough cook to understand that then I don't know what to tell you.
Oxo equipment are actually a good bang for your buck though, especially for your home cook
The dry measuring cups sold in the US come in a variety of sizes, 236, 240 and 250 ml seem to be most common.
Well now I hate my measuring cups and need new one haha
Hi!
" you are one lucky woman, i am here to do the thinking for you..." SERIOUSLY?!
Even the 20 dollar OXO doesn't have the 2/3 measure. Why this prejudice against 2/3 size cup?
Oxo appears to do everything correctly!
The OXO cups with the magnets are annoying. The magnet sticks to everything.
This experiment brought to you by Oxo.
I only buy measuring cups on which the markings are embossed
Both of them eating right food
2:05 The handle is tack-welded onto the cup; not riveted... but okay.
I came here because I have broken TWO 1-cup measuring cups on the first use. I wasn't even scooping THAT HARD?
Sorry, that label will wear off. You need stainless cups that have the label impressed into the steel.
Wrong. “Cups feature permanent, etched measurement markings.”
Oxo is great until the rubber rots. I prefer things that outlive me.
Their magnets not that hot, and, for Oxo, their package is almost impossible to open in the combined set
Lmao , 1 simple scale would work for all those measuring cups
Oxo makes good products except the grip. Dish water gets under them. Very annoying on their micro graters. I don't think there is a need for rubber grips on kitchen utensils.
