There's something incredibly beautiful about watching a goalie stretch out and tip a shot away from the target mid air. There's also something really cool about those crazy reflex saves.
I remember this era of futbol montages, I feel like nowadays everyone uses the same clips from the last 2 years, but back then people really researched and tried to find cool and obscure clips
I used to watch this video and many others when I was in school to prepare me for games. I feel so happy that I’ve found them again! They bring back so much memories, makes me wanna go back in time. Hopefully I can get back into goalkeeping soon!

@Acampandoconfrikis sin animo de incentivar el odio, pero se cambiaron de equipo...ayer Valdes atajo como Casillas en el Bernabeu....y Casillas cometio los tipicos errores de Valdes.......hasta parece que Valdes se esta haciendo un grande en porteria, con 17 partidos con la valla invicta, y con salvadas impresionantes como las de ayer. A mi tampoco me gustaba valdes cuando partio, pero este año se ha consolidado como uno de los mejores del mundo actualmente.
Aw man, the good old days of me being keeper. unfortunately I stopped playing early due to my back spasms and nerve damage. still not too bad, played from age 12-19. I wanna starting a private coaching business so I can coach the next generation of great keepers.
If you're a goalkeeper, what you don't realise is you make saves like this (If you're quite good.), this is only recorded. I wish I could see every save I've made recorded. My best save ever was when I was on the ground after a save, it bounced towards another forward on their team, and I was still on the floor, he was about a meter infront of me, I swung both my arms up in the air and his volley hit my hand and flung across the goal, where my defender cleared it from going off for a corner.
most of these miracle-saves were just lucky. most goalies just put their arm in the right positions through reflex. but you must respect goalkeepers. who else in their right mind will attempt to stop an ball coming ur way going approximately at 75-90 kilometres an hour?? as for the attackers, if a goalie pulls out saves like that they prolly start wondering: how in the bloody hell am i gonna beat that??
@RollingThunderStudio well yah diving in some situations is alright but it seems even the best keepers dive backwards when the ball is a bit ridiculous. its almost like the power of the shot was too much to handle and it knocked them off their feet. i understand the concept of being behind the ball to catch it but diving isnt necessary for the most part. i have played goalie for ten years and play college ball and i still dont understand pro keepers logic

keepers are always under-rated, under-valued and under appreciated. cause they rarely score any goals and claim glory. they make save after save after save but people rarely remember how important they are to the team. keeper is the best man in the team and cheers to all the outstanding keepers out there!
i play goalkeeper for my local team, its so difficult, you can make 8 brilliant saves drop one catch and be public enemy no 1 where as a striker can miss 2 open goals score one and be a hero. and no matter how good the save is it will always be seen as a strikers mistake rant over sorry it just annoys me :L GOALKEEPER FOREVER
I don`t know how many of those saves were Peter Schmichael but there was a lot. A great keeper. You missed Gordon banks save against Pele in Mexico. Pele still says it is the best save he has ever seen and cannot understand how Banks got to the ball. Good compilation here, I think luck plays a big part in a lot of the saves. Just get in front of the ball if you can.
@bizzabinnkin Its not completely luck....Its a matter of mind trick...playing with the shooters mind by using your body language... Its not all luck-its a matter of talent aswell... you have to read the body language of the shooter and misguide him by using your body language....its a hard thing but i saved 8 of 10 penalties againts my goal....
@goaldefender19 the game was on and it would had counted, Rene made this in other games in south america playing for his club team, on this video he is playing for the Colombian national team and it was a friendly match at Wembley against England. In an interview afterwards, he said he got the idea of the scorpion kick 5 years before while acting for a tv commercial.
funny, while I was watching the video I remembered Schmeichel saving what was going to be a great diving header from Ivan Zamorano in the 1999 champions league... and then it was at the end! Great video! look up Claudio Bravo at the Chile v Uruguay WCQ matches... he did some very good saves then...Cheers!
@ThatScot i ment to say a few like dudek against arsenal most other goalies would have caught them most of reinas saves are comfortable because hes big and in the right position all the time so i think hes the best in the prem now only because cech had that injury and not come back no way near as good

@khamsi I have always considered us goalkeepers a team person rather a fan person. We don't get the cheers from the fans but from the teams and the staff. Only other time we get noticed by the fans would be during penalty shootouts if we go and save and make the difference there.

the best saves are when the golly is streched 100% and gets that ball just with last effort or when they save the ball just by reflex, i love those feelings when it happens. you feel soo good after you save that one but also if it goes in you feel like shit because you knew you had it :))
@uknowusaf I have we were playing and up by one and I dove to save the ball and blocked it but it was still rolling into the goal so I dove and stopped it even though it was over the line and I played it like the german goalie and and played it but in the process I slammed my shoulder into the post.
@gamenerd009 yeah, i mean, if the ball is able to be caught (i'm a keeper too, just to justify myself), then the diving is understandable, as it lets you balance out when you land (standing while catching off to the side will un-balance you). But yeah, these dudes have some serious butterfingers.
Great courage and great guts. When I play keeper, I'm more aggressive i.e. running toward the player with the ball when it's 1v1. I also love being keeper, too bad I can't compete with the best young keeper in US, Anthony DeRossi who is also in the same college with me. : /
@ak47popper yeah it's true, cause im a good shotstopper, but then when i started playing goalkeeping competitively, i realised you need to be able to control your defense, and also adding as another outfield player is very useful.
I really hated the fact that most people blame the goalkeeper if the opponent made a score. That's bullshit, Goalkeepers are the most difficult position in football. Try catching a ball with full strength with high risk of hand injury. >:(
A lot of these saves are standard stuff for a good amateur keeper in fairness there are a few decent ones but if your minding the net and you cant stop some of these shots move out field ive seen sunday league keepers pull of some of these saves.
i like videos like this because they show just how hard it is to be a goalkeeper. that's why there aren't so many, and there are even fewer greats. i mean, anyone can kick a ball into a net, but how many can stop it? without knocking a few teeth out.
being a keeper myself...i never understood why pro goalies dive for EEEVVVERRRYTTTHINNNGG and cant hold onto a ball to save their lives...barthez is a prime example, im pretty sure any shot taken straight at him, he parried and dove..its dumb

I dont know why when they score a goal to a goalkeeper all of his team tell the goalkeeper that its his fault. Actually its the teams fault because they were the ones that couldnt get the ball from the opposing team.

David seamans is amazing but the overhead at 0:33, just cant be beaten as wasn't it done in a world cup and in such a crucial match, its so badass
