“…so I didn’t need to look ridiculous with my homemade Nipco valves” 😂😅
I hate to be a grammar nazi, but it's nibco. They are a very high quality brand but I don't see the reason to ONLY use them. Sometimes you just have to use what you got. There's tons of other good brand valves out there. Beggars can't be choosers or something like that, right?
3 days before install?
🤔Change order?
@@jays.7923think NIBCOs are made in the US, or is it Italy? Super probably just doesnt want no-name Chinese valves to be installed and have issues later.
NIBCO , MILWWAUKEE MADE IN USA.
Headquarters is in elkhart indiana@@swampfox9162
I work with a guy who hates Nibco so much I almost think his wife cheated on him with their owner. I've listened to multiple tirades about how much he hates Nibco fittings
But bro, you gotta get your daily vitamin A! 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
From experience, they don't shut off completely as they get older.
He has one absolutely bullshit job where a Nibco valve fucked him.
Lmfaooo
Strange how Nibco is like the major brand most contractors use here in Pittsburgh and 350 miles away and they're not common at ferguson or any other supplier
Supply houses overall never have what you need. HVAC/R & mechanical
They're very common here in Chicago, Apollo valves too.
I've installed more apollo and viega than nibco in Pittsburgh area. IMO nibco is the worst of those 3 by far
Fellow yinzer here and correct nibco legend and Apollo valves…. All tho I only use APR and Robertson lol
Nibco and Apollo valve and fittings are the most common in the planet how on earth did no supply house in the five boroughs did not have them! So re stock your truck go to GPS across the bridge or tunnel in jersey and cop your self a box of 1”. 3/4 and1/2 this way you have them! There not going to spoil and you’re going to used them up! That should be part of your truck stock any how ! Both female thread and pro press
I'm an electrician and Amazon comes in clutch pretty often. I was looking for a specific contactor and everywhere wanted $100 plus for one. Amazon had one for $20.
I read it and you’re welcome
Where I am, any friable asbestos is an instant major upcharge. I get to go into asbestos remediation mode and charging an extra week's salary.
Ya I was about to say I heard asbestos and that’s a big stop what ur doing and don’t touch it situation here😂
Should be removed from the work area by an asbestos specialist before work starts. Each area of these old buildings should have the asbestos removal as that section is worked on until the building is clear. Can't believe how nonplussed yanks are about asbestos.
It's a killer.
Yeah same here , it's a big stop and need to be remove by a pro
@@CS-zn6pphe’s not disturbing any. There’s no reason to remove it.
@@CS-zn6pp slap on a good mask with filters rated for it and you're good. Asbestos is only bad when manipulated and inhaled.
I'm in no way a fan of watching someone do plumbing work, but this guy is just so...damn...good at narration.
You can doubt me but NEVER doubt NIBCO!!!!!
😊 I am with you damn a cheap import valve
My gf works ther.e elkhart. Headquarters ! Loll. They good😊
I haven’t plumbed in NY. But I know my fuckin plumbing. Love your channel and watching your videos browskie!! 👍🏼
Spent over ten years doing remodels, new construction and industrial. After a decade of doing municipal water and sewer maintenance. I earned my stripes too bro
Great content! Compliments from a Florida plumbing company
I can watch this all day long….😊😊😊❤me encanta la tuberia!!
Gotham Pipe Supply in Queens has Nibco ball valves. I do new construction and some of the engineers comments on the drawings require either Nibco or Apollo ball valves.
3 elbow swings aren’t dumb, the reason they are installed is to alleviate stress on riser and spread out across the swing, the swing creates what’s called pivot points to counteract vertical pressure on riser
Then why not on both sides?
@@not1word331 hot water has temperature changes as cold doesn’t , is my assumption
@@kevinoconnor246 , another comment indicated it was for temperature expansion.
Thanks.
Lmao just took my asbestos training today. First thing I noticed 😭

Where is it in the video
The 90's and nipples are brass. I think it just the lighting making it look like blk malleable. You can't use black malleable on domestic it's in the ipc code book. I watch a lot of his videos and he's a solid plumber, plus nyc code is pretty strict. My man knows what he's doing. RESPECT.
Thanks I was wondering what it was, almost looked like stainless steel.
That's definitely fresh brass that he installed. The stuff he cut out was also brass, just oxidized. Over time brass darkens and can be mistaken for black iron pipe.
Yes It looked like he was installing black malleable pipe and fittings. Thank you for clarifying.
Good job, bro, glad you're using the soapy water. To me most of the ball value are ok 😊 😊
The particular valve selection comes down to easier documentation. If all your apartments in all your buildings all use the same valve manufacturer, servicing & spare parts orders are simplified.
You’re buggin working with that asbestos like that bro
😮 Its not disturbed.... It's fine. Spray it down & wear a mask. Not gonna hit down a apartment\floor in a huge building just to remove that little 2 sq feet of asbestos. This is NYC, not the rest of the country where everybody does every job 1000% by the book, with no exceptions whatsoever at all, ever! Yeeaaahhh, Riiigghhhttt!!! 🤦🏻♂️🤔🤷🏻♂️☢️☣️⚠️🚧🚫🦺🛠️🔧🗜️🔩🧰⚙️📏⛓️
As long as you know how to deal with it, you're fine.
He’s gonna be fine
I love this guy... cracks me up. Aaaight Sharpy
I love watching this guy's channel for three reasons: 1) he has to endure the hassles of working in NYC with all their bureaucratic BS and 2) he's a damn good plumber with solid techiniques and clean work. Finally, he's funnier than hell. Using a Sharpie to "fake" name a valve Nibco, then play dumb if caught. ha Good one.
The Nibco that you use on the left side riser is the wrought brass that they want to see, the one on the right side riser is the cheapo cast brass. You were able to save a few schekels there.
Ah... I just realized that is the difference in the '40s brass Crane valve stems I just replaced.
I couldn't source the grommets and washers to repack the orig. Had to order some new ones off the AMZNs. Kept the orig stems to repack once I get the parts. Thx.
I would've wrote NIT-WIT on them.
My plumber is union and he does my side work. Always nibco. I have them all in my house.
Glad you adressed the asbestos. It should be fully remediated. Theres a italian hospital that had to shut down or fix their asbestos issues.... They invented a glue that makes it safe.
I have been watching your videos for a while now, and I keep noticing gate valves installed with the stem pointing down. In my early days as an apprentice, this was a no-no. If they weren’t straight up, they had to be at most a 90 degree. I was told sediment would gather in the bonnet and make it hard to shut the valve off. What’s your opinion? Thanks, TGC II
Good Question. My answer is Ball valves eliminate that concern
that's not an answer.@@alankluttz4400
Damn my friend you get the best jobs there in Manhattan lol 😂 I love watching your videos please sir keep em coming and have a great day
Whatever happened to hiring someone, because they know what they're doing! All of us tradesmen have supplies and procedures for getting the job done, all the customer has to do is relax and pay the bill upon completion.
What happened was EVERYONE wanted to be a professional and would do 💩 work so everyone stopped trusting em. Sucks cause theres twice as many good pros than bad
Supers are a different people
My assumption is that maybe all of the valves in the building are Nibco and management wanted to keep things consistent.
Yes, you might be a real tradesman, but others are shit and will use shit products to save a buck. That's why designers and engineers spec out exact brands and specifics, and that is what they will pay you on. Not some no-name ali express shit that other contractors might use to pad their profits.
Had that happened to me in Chicopee Ma. Underground water pipe service, they wouldn't allow Meuller and only allow Ford. Had the road dug up and the inspector was upset. The town brought us Ford corp valves and we ended up reembersing them for the overpriced Ford brass.
I know a few plumbers that will NOT allow any Nibco press fittings on their trucks. Only viega. I guess the Nibco O rings were the wrong material or something back I'm the day and they would leak if they sat at 180° for a couple years. I remember I bought a bag of Nibco fittings from one of them basically for scrap.
Water works on asbestos ..but spray paint works better.
Welcome to Fridays BS on a Monday
Hot water and Elmer's glue does a good job locking down asbestos. About 5 to 1 in a spray bottle.
That blue handle nibco has lead in it though lol
Your videos are always good signed license plumber 23 years Detroit MI.
3 elbow is expansion joint. Standard on all risers.
Nibco and conbraco valves are the best.
This is to account for expansion due to heat on the hot water riser?
I guess the thinking is that the hot water riser will be cold and only expand when the hot water is turned back on. In which case, the last elbow before the shutoff and the nipple in the riser would tighten (assuming the line to the unit was fixed to the framing).
I hadn't even thought about this till I saw this comment but long risers can expand by quite a lot in a high rise.
Thanks. I've never worked on buildings tall enough to require it, but have seen it before.
I'm not clear on what expansion this is compensating for. And/or how it works with all brass fittings.
NIBCO ball valves are high quality but I am not sure why they insist on them when there are other high quality brands out there.
My dad would have murdered me using pliers on brass fitting and scaring them up like that. lol. I miss my old man.
What did you use instead?
@@bigpjohnson he had strap wrenches or leather inserts for the pliers or wrenches to protect the fittings. Don’t get me started on how my solder joints needed to be or my lead wipes. lol. I hated it at the time but man it’s paid off 100 fold in life. I’ve had more than a few compliments on my work and it’s all due to him back in the day on my ass about it.
@@Idrivthetrain nice!! I'm no pro, neither is my dad. We did some repiping and his sweating was so bad, so I taught myself to do it properly through youtube and trial and error. Finished it up and I had zero leaks and nice joints! He got mad I did better work lol.

Sharpe !! 😂😂🙄😎✌🏿
You the man
7 years municipal water and sewer, and seven years commercial, residential and industrial plumbing. Now a corrosion technician on pipelines
Nibco valves stocked out here in Seattle pricey yet very durable 😂
Those nibco valves with the blue handle aren't lead free brass. White handle is lead free.
The plumbing shop I used to work for had me scrap all their brass that wasn't lead free in '15 after the lead laws went into effect. I told them to sell them to a company that does heating work, since they're still legal in closed loop systems. They told me they'd rather take the loss than give someone else a good deal on them.
That is lead free brother look it up don’t think someone who does this for living would make a mistake like that they make blue handle lead free ball valves
@@jesuscamarena2679I'll be siding with scottstinson. Looking up ball valves on a Grainger (or Nibco) catalog provides an accurate answer.
Nibco T-FP600AD-LF has a white handle, Lead Free. (hence the part number suffix "LF")
Nibco T58570 3/4 Blue Handle, and
Nibco T5857066 3/4 Blue Handle
.....both have restrictions posted on product description NOT for use on potable water systems.
Looked like a 3/4 fitting in vid, so I went with that diameter. But it'd be logical to say Blue handles across their entire product line are not suitable for potable water.
Oh shit good catch I totally missed that. Looks like the cold got a LF and the hot didn't
@@jesuscamarena2679 Actually, I did look it up on the Nibco product catalog. Looks like a product line number T580 or T585 brass ball valve. The model with the blue handle material specification indicates Alloy C84400 which has lead within casting.
Just because someone "does something for a living" doesn't make them exempt from mistakes or improper installs. Completing the job with a blue handle, suggesting the valve is not lead free, is a mistake in itself.
Looking at their website confirms this. All the blue handle ones that I've checked say "use in U.S. drinking water applications is prohibited after January 3, 2014" and "Warning: This product can expose you to chemicals including lead." The white handle ones don't have this warning.
Love your story man🤣
Dirty Channel Locks means a good plumber. Bank on that!!
Ik you’ve said before if you ignore the asbestos and up charge, someone else won’t care and do it cheaper and get the job, just make sure you and the broskis at very least have a half face and some good filters. 4.5 years into the asbestos game in AZ with pipe insulation, soapy water and a half face will keep you and the boys safe! Keep up the good work and make that money, and stay safe!!!
I honestly would have a livestream of this guy yapping on the background while working.
Well alright alright alright! You do a good Matthew McConaughey.
Bro you hilarious 😂🤣😂
I’m a plumber but I don’t mind working as an apprentice for any company in need
Three elbow swing off the hot water isn’t a dumb request. It’s an expansion loop and should be off any hot water riser or baseboard branch supply side… They wrote the code for a reason my guy.. 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Thanks I was looking for the this comment. I was wondering why the loop. Makes sense.
Can someone please dumb this down further?
@@WyattBestexpansion and contraction are normal for hot water systems and piping. Coming off a vertical run the NYC code calls for an expansion swing. Domestic hot water, hot water heating systems and steam systems all require them. Not sure if it applies to pex tubing as plastic isn’t really allowed in the city.
Never knew that soap and water to help limit the the particles in the air thank you I appreciate that helpful info
Maybe they wanna keep with the same company so they know every room is the same?
This guy could write dialog for Hollywood. He’s better than most of them.
Nibco was all we used bsck in the day....90's and early 2000's
We have that brand out here in SF, kinda pricy. But last minute request = change order, price subject to change! In any case way to get it done!
You always do good clean work
Not gonna lie I love nibco copper fittings they make it look clean
Lol bro always making me laugh
Not that Matthew McConaughey voice. 😂
Three elbow swing. Smash F to pay respects to the fluid dynamics.
As the manager who made the weird request I can attest that I indeed checked to make sure they were the right brand
That is classic just write it on the value 😂
I’m so glad I moved out of Manhattan and I don’t have to deal with any more property corporations. People not from there have no idea the extra 10 headaches you get on every job just from the location .
Nibco has made themselves the leader in lead free. Hell a tag comes on the valve with it.
lol he’s getting a kickback from that valve company 😂
If hydro need a boiler hero we’re here for support!!!!!
I won't lie there was a fourwater heater set up at an apartment complex and all the ball valves that weren't nibco, were seized in the on or off position
I worked with and around asbestos for many years and now have stage 4 cancer 🤷♂️ stay safe my friends
Love u broski
Those Nibco valves look like 585s they are dezincification resistant for the couch plumbers
not 585's those r fp600's (the import kind)
I don't know why, but the begining of the video looked like a video game.
Sounds like they've had problems with the failing valves made in Mexico water goes right through the PAC seal at the stainless ball . Nibbys are good indoor valves, unlike the Legends or the Giancremini's (damn if I know how to spell it) have a nut to tighten the pack. The handle comes off easy and the longevity is there in both, solder and press versions. For over 10 years down here before NF 61 the FP 600 was the primary used ball valve in South Florida. 2 inch to half inch you pop a tile and look across the ceiling and it just be blue handles everywhere. If you're outside and can deal with the yellow handle Boston makes an excellent stainless stem version.
“As always there was no leak in sight”
This time it's publicity for Amazon
Special demands usually meanIts either architect or engineer drawing or the client has stockin company. Its their buck i charge if I can't get parts if little time afforded. It ain't coming off my check or time.
This shit had me dying 😂😂😂.
NY and city plumbing is another level
Crazy! I’m in Az. We don’t see much of this.
Great podcast as always. Really think for multiple reasons it’s important to finish lower in the standings. Gotta secure some additional talent + don’t want late season wins to create any false hope in the management group. Also think this group of players could use to be knocked down a peg, they seemed slightly overconfident heading into this season and it’s really impacted their play
Reminding me again why you’re a pro! (Pro-ski?)
Bro you do good work
Per my personal experience the nibco valve Handles stands up to corrosion way better than Apollo etc. And never had a leak yet
Nibco make great products
Oh no, need my “broskis”!🙀
Next time you tell them to supply the nipco parts, otherwise you will use what your supplier has 😂
All right all right , mcconaughey is now a plumber
They are sold at the GPS in NJ

Thats crazy. How does no supply house or supply store in New York not carry Nibco?
I’m low key glad my man had enough integrity to not pull up w some fake valves 🥴 bc I’m sure they’d sure tf outta you ha
Nibco is like the main name brand literally right across the river in nj
