    This is very helpful. I was just given a batch of SCOBE a week ago. I am on the first fermentation phase, obviously. I will be looking for mold. Thank you!

    Didn't make kombucha for like 6 months. Neglected my Scoby. When I went to clean out my scobys I added some sweet tea and after a couple days I had mold on top.. definitely need to keep feeding your scobys

    Hi! So if the mold is just at the top and there are a lot of layers underneath the moldy part of the scoby, can I peel off the top and several layers underneath and use the lower parts?

      typically thats not how mold works there is more to it than what you can see ive had a batch ive tried this with and mold came straight back its why they dont recommend cutting moldy parts off bread and eating the rest the spores are alot deeper than surface level... by all means you can try it but there is a good chance it will come back

    My scoby looks black and definitely some fungus (mold) on the top. Is it drinkable if i remove it?

      there is alot more to mold than just what you can see the spores can get into the booch if disturbed ive tried making a scoby from a batch that had a bad scoby in it and that was contaminated too, its the same as cutting a moldy part off of cheese chances are the spores are deeper than you can see. hope this helps :)

    Good to know, do you recommend some disposable gloves and should they be latexfree and powder free gloves?

    • @PepperAmmy
      @PepperAmmy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      personally i use nitrile gloves you can handle a scoby without gloves but soap / hand sanitizer can harm the scoby

      @@PepperAmmy Thanks for the quick reply, do you think it is possible to test for sugar in homemade kombucha with a blood glucose meter? I've been making Kombucha for nearly seven months now, decided to use organic black tea instead of green tea... And I've noticed one of the batches has a pea size mold spot on top of the scoby....... I'm devastated, hopefully some nitrile gloves might help.
