  • I built a pantograph or pointing machine to resize sculptures by hand. I used materials on hand and gathered from the junk yard and thrift stores. I spent less than $50. Thanks to Spencer Schubert of "Sculptor's Apprentice" TH-cam channel, and Jason Arkles of "The Sculptor's Funeral" blog for their insights, support and recommendations. stay tuned as I will be adding more videos and information about this tool, and show it in progress while I make sculptures. Come say hi on facebook at / christopheryanceyart

    This is really cool! I'm planning to build a 1:1 pointing machine after watching the Sculptor's Funeral video, and I'll definitely come back here if and when I need to scale up any pieces. Thanks for showing how (relatively) straightforward the principles and build can be!

    I really like it, great! I built me one sort of like yours, but I couldn't get it accurate enough and I had other work waiting, so I left it. I think I'll redo it one day. If you'd put something like a loop too for clay in the receiving end, you could scrape the clay into form, following the original. At least that's what I saw others do... That would save a lot of time. Any chance of you emailing me that page or selling drawings?
    I thought of making a copying saw that works like a pantograph too, but as I'm very unexperienced in metalworking, I'll leave that for now. But this pantograph mechanism sure comes in handy.

    thanks for posting. great job. your explanation of the measurements needs to be simplified though. I watched it about ten times and still am guessing.
    if my distance is 60" the center point is 20" from pivot? with a 20" pointer? then 40" to outer pivot ? with a 40" pointer?

    Great presentation.After looking at it once I thought that I shall build a same machine. But now I still did not understand if this precise machine you made is only capable to do one scale-up ? Because the 3 bicycle wheels positions cannot be spaced differently. Would one have to build another machine for each different scale,?

    Oh nice so the turntable provides a third axis? I'm still not sure how it works because I don't carve stone. Is it carving the stone? Is it for measurement? Either way pretty impressive. Thanks for your explanation.

    Is it possible to put a router on this pantograph

    • @arthardware5560
      @arthardware5560  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I wouldn't put one on this particular machine as the pointer arms are not sturdy enough, a dremel tool or a hot wire foam cutter yes. I would have to make the pointer arm stronger to get a router on it, but it could definitely be done. the other thing you would have to change is the counter balancing weights to account for the weight of the router, and make the pointer tip on the smaller piece a sized down version of the router bit, so you could maintain accuracy. keep the questions coming! thanks

  • @mrburns366
    @mrburns366 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A Dremel and a block of foam would get the copy done faster 😋
