  • After eating out almost everyday for the last month, I decided to cut back in a major way. Let's see if I can plan 3 meals a day with absolutely no coupons and only $10. I decided to try this at Aldi. The prices are reasonable and since Aldi doesn't accept coupons I wouldn't be tempted to use any. I had a ton of fun doing this. Let me know what you would have spent the $10 on.

@@maribellopez1839 I'm really surprised that your school is still open! I've had up to 5 kids at any given time, I've been known to send a piece of fried chicken and a side of fruit. I've also sent pies but I'm not sure if govt still allows that in the current school system. I've also sent French bread pizza with my kids. One of my boys was stuck on pizza for years! The pediatrician said that "it had all the food groups, let him eat pizza." if you don't have sour dough pizza dough recipe then use English muffins? I still keep pepperoni in the fridge just in case I ever need it. I hope you are able to come up with a surprise for the kids....

It is better to spend $20 for two weeks than $10 for one week, if at all possible. If I were in the $20 for two weeks situation, I would get the big container of Oats. Also, beans and rice are super cheap and seasoned well they can taste really good. A big bag of apples and a bunch of bananas would help cover the healthy fruit needs. For me, I would have to put some veggies on the menu too (frozen veggies don't cost that much, often less than $1 per pack). Add a package of brown sugar for the oatmeal and I am good to go for a couple weeks for under $20. Meat takes too big of a chunk out of a super tight budget, imho. We ate the way I described a lot when I was a kid. There were 8 mouths to feed and not a lot of money, but we still didn't constantly rely on junk food.

This video really brought me back. I remember only having $10-15 for groceries a week after losing my job a few years ago, and I had to feed my three children as well. Those were tough times but I learned to completely depend on God as my provider. If anyone is watching this out of necessity God is able to bring you through any circumstance if you stay faithful and lean on Him.

This is what I was thinking but I would of chosen frozen mixed veggies. I would of grabbed more bananas as well since there was enough left over for three more with what was purchased. With the rice and chicken there are so many ways to change it up. I would think the chicken would be enough for lunches and dinners if it was cooked up all at once and taken off the bones. The bones would definitely be made into broth to make some soup or just to drink for added nutrients.

So many good choices. The first weeks on $10 a week need to be more cost/nutrition per serving then taste. Taste is important but allowing veg and fruit 🍎 🍌 will keep you healthy. Weakness & sickness cost time money and quality of life. Watch serving size, treasure each item and plan so you can slowly expand you pantry. Also try to find money elsewhere. Cut your electric by using a crockpot. Use as few dishes to cook and eat to lower your water and hot water bill. Have a hot water tank, only turn it on for a few hours a day for washing clothes, dishes, showering. That alone can save $20-50 a month. Can you put on a sweater and turn the heat down by 5 degrees. Turn of microwave and plug in only in use - it pulls electric even when not running. Unplug phone chargers unless charging, phantom electric use. Watch tv on you computer if it draws less electric. Unplug set top boxes. Take that savings and build your pantry for taste like spices, herbs, sauces, and condiments. Build staples, flour sugar baking powder yeast (buy it by pound it’s cheaper)......this will allow for more fresh veg and fruit.

Actually, rice would be better, but when we were raising our 3 boys, a family favorite was mac and cheese, plus cut up hot dogs, plus some frozen broccoli florets broken up. The kids didn't notice the veggies, and it was a cheap way to satisfy my husband's huge appetite. When the boys were teens, the broccoli didn't go over so well, and we had more money, but 3 large pizzas then would disappear really fast. $$ By the way, it may not have been the most nutritious meal, but it had protein, carbs, veggie, and we topped it off with ketchup! So not only the young ate that way. I'm 70 now and don't eat that anymore, thank goodness, but I would if it were healthier!

Broke people can stretch a dollar pretty far but sacrifices have to be made across the board when you have no money. All bills need to be cut back but the quickest way is to cut your food bill. It's not a forever thing but it is going to give you the fastest results. If I had a car payment and put my car up for sale assuming it's not upside down on the payments it's still not going to get me the money I need today for the food I would like to eat to stay healthy. And for the phone bill again a cheaper plan isn't going to help till the bill hits next month. In the here and now if you have $10 for the week chances are you're going to be a little hungry and not going to eat very healthy but at least you won't be dead from hunger. You bought yourself some time.

When I was newly married, many years ago, we had a very small income and a young son, so had to be careful with our food. One thing I did was to buy a whole chicken, and roast it. We would have it with lots of veggies which we grew in our garden so they were free, apart from all the work involved, but that's another matter. So Sunday roast chicken, Monday either cold chicken and salad, or make chicken pie, and if the chicken was a big one we could sometimes get another day of meat from it. Sometimes we would freeze some of the cooked chicken to save for another time so we didn't have chicken every day. Then I would boil the bones with herbs, diced onion, carrot, celery, swede, potato and pearl barley ( pearl barley was very cheap and you only needed a handful, so a box would be enough to make ten or twelve saucepans full of hearty soup or stew ) and make a hearty soup, which we would have with rolls or fresh crusty bread. So from one chicken I could get at least four days worth of main meals for very little money. I would also do similar with boiling bacon joints, that again could be stretched to three or four days, including boiling the bone with herbs, veggies, and either lentils or pearl barley. It is amazing what you can do with a little meat to make it go a long way. Cheap cuts of meat, if cooked long and slow can be just as tasty and tender as some of the more expensive cuts.
I hope you and your family all stay safe and well.
Much love and respect, from South East England. x

Pasta at around 30cents a pack, add garlic and olvie oil..... chicken is a good choice but get some stock to make soup and then potatoes/ veg.... jeez, the possibilites go beyond toaster pastries and mac n cheese in a box!

During these crazy times-this will be very handy.
I shop this way all the time by choice (I am clearing debt and want to cut back on unreasonable spending), and Aldi’s is always my first stop. For those who have one...check out your local dollar store for some items too. I mostly stick to Aldi’s and Walmart since you really can’t beat their prices.
The biggest tip to those who really need to do this...learn to cook.
My criticism is only to think outside the box (literally-the processed box). Money lost on cheese, and chicken could have gone to more food items. Aldi’s has all types of canned chili beans for $0.39 per can, and cheap tortilla 18 count for $1.65...for bean taco dinner night, breakfast tacos, or bake the rest of the tortillas with salt and spices and make your own snacks and dip made with refried beans $0.75 per can.
You totally overlooked the veggies. Cheap bag of red or baking potatoes for just over $2 for 5lbs could yield A LOT. Baked potatoes smothered in chili beans or butter, French fries, mashed potato bowls-my personal favorite, is homemade mash potatoes (no milk or butter...lots of garlic powder, salt and pepper and water), smothered under sautéed onions ($1.25 per 1lb bag)...really yummy. Aldi’s has a great price on produce. Banana’s are a great option you chose. They also have a great price on avocados ($0.49 each usually on sale), that you can make avocado toast for breakfast. Really good. Or...go buy a box of Jiffy Corn Bread ($0.49 per box), make it in a cake pan and eat that for breakfast or with a bowl of bean chili. So many great options. One last tip I learned from my grandmother when we were too broke to afford pancake syrup...boil 2 parts water, to 1 part regular sugar, add a capful of vanilla extract. The syrup won’t be as thick, or dark but taste great on pancakes. And I make my pancakes from scratch. Making anything from scratch with save you lots of $$$$.
Thank you for such an awesome video. You will help a lot of people manage the struggle. ❤️😊💚

I’ve never been on this part of TH-cam (couponing/budget) so this was really interesting to see how everything revolved around the price. I can’t put anything in my cart unless I look at the nutrition label to check the macros. I guess it’s those little things that we don’t realize how lucky we are most of the time. Yes, I’ll still get the cheaper option/more cost effective but the price is not the biggest factor when I’m getting my groceries.

    Great video.
    Me i would have got:
    Chicken or turkey $2
    Bag rice $1
    Frozen veg $.89
    Milk $2(coronation/powder/almond)
    Cereal $1.09 (corn flakes)
    Bananas $1
    Bread $.89
    1 box mac & cheese $.49 cents
    1 can tuna $.49 cents
Im in florida that would have come in less than $10 with tax...i just rounded the prices up....
    Meals:
Breakfast: cereal, french toast (bread, eggs, sugar, milk & if spices in ur cupboard like cinamon) mashed bananas spread on toast & fried.
Lunch: egg sandwhich, tuna & rice, mac & cheese
Dinner: chickens veggie soup with toasted bread crouton, chicken rice veggies. Chicken rice veggies & egg stirfry.
Smoothie: bananas, milk, water blended = smoothie or eat bananas as a snack.
Note: can use some of meat to make tenders n mac n cheese; meat dipped in egg, then coated in home made bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes & seasonings & fried/overbake/air fry meat & serve with mac & cheese or veggie Stirfry rice
& tuna fish cakes! Tuna, rice, egg, corn flakes or bread crumbs to bulk it up & shape into disk & fry & serve with half or 3rd bananas
These are just ideas & ways u can change it up. I hope it helps & bless us all during this time. My aldi has days they mark down meat so can get it cheaper! Thank you & have a wondefful day
P.s instead of corn flakes u can get oats & also make oat bars: mashed bananas, oats & bake & if u have more $$ get peanut butter & raisins or cranberries to make own no bake cereal bars: oats, nut butter, raisins for sweetness & maybe honey if u have mix & bake! U have own protein bars & can use oats for cereal with milk & have tea or coffee as well. & for drinks get some liquid or powdered drink like crystal light or cool aid, add water & if u have budget sliced limes or lemons & sugar & u have something to drink (i just have water & sliced limes or lemons water)

I feed a big family. Oats (not the individual ones) are healthy, filling & cost about $1.29 for 18 oz. Me & my grand baby eat it every morning . It lasts a week. We eat eggs, chicken thighs, bananas, fresh greens, potatoes, hard cheese , peanut butter & apples for cheap. I bake homemade rolls, bread & desserts. Very cheap. Rice is a good pick. We have fried rice at least one night a week. You put onion, egg & soy sauce & it’s a favorite.
