John love your video's. My fishing days are gone because my disability stops me from going outside. It's always a great smell of the sea watching you fish, thanks mate...John Liverpool.
Hi John, don't know if you remember but it was me who suggested you fish Amlwch breakwater and said there were congers there. You are correct in saying that there are 20lb plus congers there and they are everywhere but casting towards the slates is best. Biggest one I've hooked was down the edge facing the sea. It was easily 20lb and I had to walk along the top of the breakwater to try and land it on the rocks to the left. I managed to get it where I could grab the line and pull it but it was twisting around and it bent the hook. It was around 6ft long and had a head like a labrador lol. There used to be a guy from Valley who breeds dogs and he would fish on the slate blocks near the steep steps. He would only come down large spring tides and he was catching 2 or 3 of them at a time and all 10lb plus. He would only use herring as bait which he said they prefer as they are more oily. Anyway he would butcher them there with an axe and throw the heads into the harbour. He was saying that it was cheaper than dog food and they would last 3-4 weeks and the dogs loved it. If you decide to fish the breakwater wall casting out to sea then only cast it around 80 yards. There is a reef there around a 100 yards out that runs parallel to the breakwater and it's a tackle graveyard. Also you are fishing on to mud not sand and on low water on spring tides you can actually see flatfish swimming leaving a cloud of mud behind them. Also take a drop net and chuck a whole mackerel in it for crabs or lobsters plus the scent brings the congers out. The local lads on New Years day used to jump off the breakwater for charity but they stopped it as one lad making his way up the ladder copped a hook in his leg. If you do decide to fish the pens opposite the breakwater then you can cast directly near the slates as it's a deep channel. Also there are usually boats moored up there so you can climb on to one of them to land any congers. There are still tales of a 50 to 70lb conger on the wreck of the Dakota which is right by the mouse island. I have a good story about that wreck but I don't want to bore you anymore lol.
Hi John 👍 yours is the best fishing vids on TH-cam. Such a nice bloke. (No frills as it happens )👍you should have your own programme on prime time telly. You’ve had me pissing myself laughing at you especially that time you were waiting for Martin early morning and saying about going into his house with your camera and it was the wrong house. Great sense of humour 🤣I had to stop the vid for laughing. Keep it coming mate fuckin brilliant. Jim. Isle of Wight 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Last time I fished there, a young fella early 20's came next to me smokin a pipe... Sat on the wall with his rod and pipe 😅. He might of ad some o be joyful in it 🤷♂️
i do a lot of pike fishing but with the frozen ponds an canals .rivers are flooded ..can you lure fish from these breakers just to see what would bite if anything.regards wozza
