Hi! I played Wednesday last year so here are some of my personal tips - Pick an audition song that kind of fits in the same world as Wednesdays (i.e safer from first date, home from beetle juice, fight for me from heathers, etc.). BUT, also make sure that you pick a song that fits your voice the best. Something you know you can sing well even if you’re not feeling the best that day. If you take a huge risk on a song that you don’t normally sing or a song that doesn’t fit your voice and it doesn’t work out you’ll be disappointed. - If you are required to sing songs from the show remember this. Wednesdays songs are hard and there’s a lot of them. Make sure you’re singing them in a way that is healthy for you. Don’t try and imitate the recording or anyone else you’ve heard. Do it the way that is best and healthiest for you. - If you have to do a scene from the show in your audition, add little bits of life into Wednesday. Because she’s such a monotone character it’s easy for it to come across a board. Add fun little things that give her a pop of colour and add life into her. This can be whatever you want it to be! Play around. - Lastly, interpret the character the way YOU interpret her. At the end of the way do what is most natural for you. Your version of Wednesday might be completely different than someone else’s, and that is OK. Directors don’t want to see a carbon copy of someone else. They want to see what you bring to the table and what you add to the character. Have so much fun and break a leg! Come back and tell us how it goes!
