    Great and really helpful video. Hairpin was free as I just cleaned up my daughter's room and found one. My real job was to extract the rear speaker wires out of my Passat car stereo plug as I got intermittent shorts to the speaker lines (due to bad connectors somewhere else). Apparently VW RCD300 models did not have any short protection as two units got destroyed with caps smoking, thankfully the RCD310 had better design.

  • @MikkoRantalainen
    @MikkoRantalainen 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great tips. It would have been even better to show where the hairpin is supposed to touch the connector metal part to get it to release. The connector has small metal bits slightly bent outwards and the hairpin is used to push those outwards bent part back towards the metal body of the connector. Sometimes those outward bent parts also may a bit loose and the metal part of the connector starts to slide backwards when you try to attach the connector. Then you just take the connector apart, carefully bent the part that sticks outwards (needle pin seems good for this) to make it slightly more outwards and put the parts together again.

    Better yet, you can make a depining tool from old windshield wiper; use the U end of a wiper and grind it thin with a bench grinder, the metal is stronger and wont flex when you try to depin the pin.

    I wonder if you can help as I have the opposite issue that the female 2-pin socket (like the one in your vid) comes attached to the brake pad, however, it is the male socket that has been cut (i assume it corroded so the previous owner has cut the wiring loom at the point of where the male socket was), I can find loads of brake pad connectors on eBay however they are all the socket part of the housing I can't find a VW male 2 pin plug. I even purchased a part advertised as a plug but the part delivered was the socket with a tail (like in your vid). Do you know if I purchase any 2-pin plug will it work or do I need a specific part? What's this connector for

    • @Goodbye_Megaton
      @Goodbye_Megaton หลายเดือนก่อน

      This particular one, is used on a handful of connectors in the wiring harness of Audi's and Volkswagens. This exact one, is usually used on things like coolant temperature sensor, knock sensor, brake pad wear sensor, hood contact sensor, and A/C compressor sensor. I think it's even used on brake fluid level sensor. Sometimes they corrode, rodents chew the wires, or they just mysteriously sever cleanly like they've been cut. Your air conditioning stop working in your car? Check the electrical connector for a break in the wire. Knowing that, saved me possibly $500-$1000 recently on my Audi A4 B7. It was severed like it had been cut, about 1/2 inch out from the connector. I have a temp fix on it, but this video has helped me understand how I am going to take it apart and fix it permanently.
