I've had this monitor since last November. I do notice the light flickering sometimes but it's only been in certain instances. Overall I love it, yeah it's a bit pricey but the hope is as these become more standard, and more people buy them, market prices will go down. Highly recommend
I purchased mine for Black Friday, should come in a week. Have you guys figured out the mounting for it? Cuz that stand is gonna take up almost my whole desk space😭
I would seriously wait for a second revision of this monitor. The "recall" i think is about the flickering but also apparrently quite a few people have had problems with extreme light bleed due to layers of the screen or the bezel around it not being mounted well enough.
I got lucky and received this monitor before they froze the retail sale. Haven't had any issues yet (knock on wood). It's by far the best monitor I've seen in 45 years of my life. So immersive for gaming and easy on the eyes for multitasking. Incredible!
I don't get why they had to mention it's non sponsored. Is that going to affect the review? Have there been other reviews that were sponsored? Were those reviews biased because of the sponsorship?
@@anotherchu Unfortunately other channels sometimes (or, often) do sponsored reviews which of course influences the judgement. Specifically for the G9, there was recently some controversy because retail models had high defect rates.
Sponsored reviews don't always mean dishonest. Especially on reputable channels like LTT. Alot of creators also don't let sponsored by the product content be called reviews, like how MKBHD mentioned in his video
None of LTT's reviews are sponsored by the company making the product. They have had videos where they talk about a product that is sponsored by the maker, but they label them as "product showcase," never as "review." I believe the main reason they labeled this video as non-sponsored was because their unboxing of it was sponsored by Samsung, so they felt the need to clarify that this was not. Or it is possibly a test to see if the video performs better by putting non-sponsored in the title
@@jononeil4466 for me the worst part of it is that they get sponsored with Samsung to make those two videos about the G7 27"32" G9 in the first place on that second channel. This was a real mess IMO. I got myself the 27" G7, and I have to say I was initially scared to pre-order because it had no dedicated G-Sync module, but I trusted Samsung on this. I neither have dead pixels nor G-Sync flicker. However, I did have one instance when launching Razer Synapse Surface Calibration, the top of the pane started going haywire. Other than that, I haven't had a problem in a variety of games with Adaptive-sync on. Make sure you update your NVIDIA driver (mine never presented an update for the G7 G-Sync, and still doesn't) so I had to do it manually. Also, make sure to download the latest firmware for it. Just came from watching the Pre-Built comparison series from a while ago, where Origin PC got slated as the worst. Now they are a sponsor for the channel.
I think it was a way to say Samsung didn’t sponsor the video, origin pc sponsor but seemed like the focus was on the Samsung ssd. So it’s like Samsung did sponsor it in a way he could say they didn’t.
They've always been the worst. Suddenly refusing to sell AMD graphics cards in their systems for what they claimed was "too many support requests" when the whole crashing drivers issue (at launch of the 5700XT; has since ended) hadn't started yet was evidence enough for me. They didn't want to train their support reps for two different graphics card OEMs. The only good thing about Origin is their cases, and they don't sell those separately so... fuck 'em.
I've really been enjoying the G7 but I think the curve is an acquired taste, I love it but I can imagine many who would hate it. I prefer the G7 over G9 just because it carried the same features but in a format that felt a lot more organic to my preferred dimensions and at a much fairer price.
I have a 32 inch 1440p ViewSonic curved monitor and I won’t go back. It feels easier to look across the whole screen. Only thing I am planning on doing is upgrading to a curved 4K monitor.
for me the 32 G7 is horrendeous, the curvature starts too fast and i see everything for work AND games distorted ... G9 is a lot more natural in that aspect due to the more space, however the problems it has after so many iterations makes me think samsung is just making fun of us
No, this is exactly what you see when you receive the monitor. I have the C RG9 (the predecessor) and the backlight bleed looks exactly the same in terms of intensity.
@@Hikkiru you would be surprised by how many companies use samsung panels. AOC 49 in, darkmatter both use samsung panels as they are the only ones that make 5120x1440
Something I'd enjoy seeing is how the monitor looks on games with TAA enabled that are highly popular for "ghosting" based on TAA. Would it be even worse than before or have adversity?
Been falling off in recent years as far as I'm concerned. They no longer make the best displays for TV's, LG does with their OLED's. Their new generation of 120hz OLED panels for mobile phones has been plagued with issues (see the green tint issues on the S20 Ultra and OnePlus 8 Pro for some examples of that), issues that are also apparently making Apple uneasy about using them for the iPhone 12 (that is a rumor though). They keep trying to ride amped up VA 'QLED' on both their TV and monitor market, with new generations barely being different or more innovative than the last. This monitor and their last few generations of TV are a great example. Barely more or the SAME pathetic amount of local dimming zones, resulting in the same poor HDR performance, and just frills and gimmicks to sell the new units. The only truly great thing Samsung makes these days is memory. Everything else is cut corners, gimmicks and gobs of fucking marketing. They need a kick in the pants.
This monitor is a beast of a monitor. I actually replaced the 48” LG OLED TV with this monitor. The LG OLED C1 is an awesome TV but for me it’s not a good pc gaming monitor
I have a triple screen setup for racing, this looks like it has potential. The picture-by-picture might be a suitable substitute for multitasking - two 2560x1440 screens from different outputs could mean I plug both into my GPU for basically two monitors when I want to be multitasking. Otherwise, one big wide screen for racing. I looked it up and it as a 100x100 VESA mounting layout, so I could consider mounting this on my racing rig. I hope they fix that flicking during HDR. This might be something to save up for.
Just ordered this, it arrives tomorrow. I'm excited. I know about the Neo and it' upgraded specs and the other 55 inch monitor coming out later this year, but $1,500 for me is pushing it, LOL. 🤪

5:52 Intuitively the 'R' value of a display is surely optimal when it is equal to the viewing distance, where all points in the horizontal dimension are equally distant from the viewer, and nothing to do with eye curvature. This way the field of view is maximally filled without distortion. Given that 1000 mm (1 metre/~3.3 feet) is a more typical viewing distance for PCs than larger values, it is likely more optimal for most people. Of course, this all assumes that the software knows that it is displaying the image on a curved display and doesn't apply compensations used for flat screens when displaying 3D spaces.

@@KazuyaYuza Fwiw modern OLED's are not as prone to burn-ins as they once used to be. Firstly, current gen panels are better at handling static elements, but the software is also improved. Screen contents are shifted by a few pixels periodically and the TV automatically reduces brightness for static pixels. Just two features that I know of -- I'm sure there are many more.
Honestly, I'd take VA's far superior contrast and colour reproduction any day over IPS and TN, even if VA does smear a little. There's just no comparison when you look at all three technologies side by side!
Though I'm assuming that scales with the more expensive VAs? I haven't had that experience when trying out the less expensive (not budget) ones, unless all the ones I looked at happened to be bad... When text is moving from side to side not even too fast it's a nightmare to read
@@Anreii Each technology has its own benefit and drawback, getting used to VA smearing for me is much easier than getting used to a TN's poor colour reproduction or the lack of contrast on IPS panels.

damn, quite possibly the most honest review i've seen about the new odyssey monitors. Didn't sugarcoat anything either or omit critical information. btw, those inverse ghosting coronas are unplayable and are very easy to spot. Also, if you run or move fast when controlling a character, the surrounding colors will show noticeable color shift as if a flower is either blooming or dying, which annoys the hell out of me and scared the living hell out of my sister. Based off those UFO tests, the only acceptable inverse ghosting is under 2.,5%, otherwise EVERYTHING will have that color shift effect the moment you move. Feint inverse ghosting is acceptable but this defnitely isn't feint. For $1700, this monitor is absolute dog shit
I have the Samsung CHG90, which is the 3840x1080/144hz older version of the G9. I have a love/hate relationship with the aspect ratio. I *love* having it for work, and will probably eventually buy the G9 for productivity. But It's really not great for any of the games I've played on it. Most don't have any support for anything higher than 2560x1440, so I either have to play full-screen with black bars (defeating the ability to multi-task), or play in windowed mode. In the couple of games that I have played that support 32:9, it's surprisingly straining to have UI elements so far outside of my field of view. It's really not cool having to turn my head to see a minimap, or completely miss notification flags in the corners. But damn, I never want to go back to a 2 monitor setup.

I would seriously wait for a second revision of this monitor. The "recall" i think is about the flickering but also apparrently quite a few people have had problems with extreme light bleed due to layers of the screen or the bezel around it not being mounted well enough.
Their 2nd revision is also faulty.

I really like this, please keep doing non-sponsored reviews as we need more honesty in this industry.
Or it is possibly a test to see if the video performs better by putting non-sponsored in the title
in my mind there can't be a sponsored review anyway. Ltt dies it right and call sponsored stuff "showcase"

Well sure, it's an ad and it's not that they were terrible.
They've always been the worst. Suddenly refusing to sell AMD graphics cards in their systems for what they claimed was "too many support requests" when the whole crashing drivers issue (at launch of the 5700XT; has since ended) hadn't started yet was evidence enough for me.

Samsung has always been the king of display technology for me.
for me its sony

Dude is biased about it because he isn’t sponsored for it obviously.
