Another mob hit that should've made this list was the triple capo murders, ordered by Joey Massino. After the Galante hit, 3 capo's tried to take the leadership of the Bonnano family for themselves, Sonny Red, Dominick Trincera and Phil Giacone. They were made examples of as a result.
Thomas Dewey, the prosecutor that Dutch Schultz tried to kill, later became the Republican nominee for president of the United States in 1948, losing to Harry Truman.
my older brother moved from new zealand to melbourne australia in early 2000's and there was a mob hit across the street from where he lived, was around the time of the drug wars with the mafia there, carl williams, morans, carlton crew ect, he said it was crazy as. said 2 guys were sitting in a car outside one of their houses and a car pulled up and shot them up with shotguns
I was 15 yrs old playing handball in the park across the street where galante got shot down...on knickerbocker ave in bushwick...i lived 1 street over on hart st...we heard the shots everyone just got down then the dudes left cops showed up we knew a guy 2 buildings over and we got to the roof and saw his ass lit up with that cigar in his mouth...crazy shit in nyc
Right. And Frank Sinatra played Lewis in the biopic The Joker Is Wild (1957), which is particularly interesting given the rumors about Sinatra's mob ties.

As an historian I really enjoy learning about historical events. However I am tired of the media glamourizing criminals and criminal behavior. These guys are thugs and a bane on civilization.
It is interesting you say glamorizing criminals and that you're also a historian. In truth, there is very little difference between the Mafia from the 20s to the 90s and the Roman empire following the period of the 5 great emperors. The only real thing that differentiates the mafia from Rome at that time is that the Mafia works inside of a larger nation known as the USA, whereas the emperors were assassinated by their fellow governing body members
Masseria was a terrible boss. He was cemented in the old ways, was incompetent and greedy. The only reason he reached the top was he was totally ruthless.
One picture is the notorious Harry Strauss, a prolific killer for Murder Inc. His mob name was "Pittsburg Phil," due to him being out of town for private hits. They say that he dressed very well-which is apparent here-he must of been on the lam, as he was unshaven, but was always very careful about his appearance.
Shows like The Sopranos paint a fine line between an accurate portrayal of life in the mob and glamorizing it, but I lean toward the former. Anyone who crosses a mob boss, especially if it’s one who cares about his family, will quickly learn it’s over.
I forget the name of the target or who hit him, but usually on documentaries about the mob you'll see a photo of a dead guy sitting in the passenger seat of a car and his head is leaning back with his eye open and mouth agape like he was having a heart attack from the scare of being shot, and there's blood on his face. It's scary.
Yes, they definitely glamorize organized crime. Especially the Godfather movies. They just about put a halo on Marlon Brando and Robert DeNiro's characters. Pathetic.

He was allegedly involved with the Montreal Family, his uncle was a made member I believe. Dino was sort of an associate. He was involved with Cigarette Smuggling. One of the deals went bad and the mob lost alot of money.

I love this stuff

...And the moral of the story is, if you're a mob boss, stay away from cars and restaurants.
The Queen taking out Diana has got to be one of the top mob hits
👀👀
Yeah, but which Queen. It wasn't Elizabeth's style. But Queen C? 🤔 I wonder.
The queen denies there's such a thing as the mafia.... she works in waste management but has several huge ass homes and top level security
Is that you Harry?
The mafia never made it to Britain.
Thomas Dewey, the prosecutor that Dutch Schultz tried to kill, later became the Republican nominee for president of the United States in 1948, losing to Harry Truman.
McGurn didn’t kill Lewis. He cut his throat and tongue. Lewis survived.
"Now go home and get your fucking shine box!"
am I the only surprised that Jimmy Hoffa isn't mentioned?

NYC was wild still is but slightly tamer atleast mob wise
Without watching the video I’m going to assume top three in no particular order is Castellano, Anastasia, and the Valentine’s Day massacre
Or Galante
I was surprised that Arnold Rothstein wasn't on this list, but I guess his murder wasn't truly a mob hit.
Arnold Rothstien should've been on there above Dino Bravo, Shonder Burns, or Danny Greene.
I was looking for this comment.
I would only suggest that the clips of the "Gotti" movie should have been taken from the HBO movie by the same name.
Well-researched and narrated. Some names can be mispronounced, but it's all good here. Thank you for your quality content!
Joe E. Lewis died in 1971 of a heart attack. McGurn died in 1936. He didn't kill Lewis.
Exactly
Right. And Frank Sinatra played Lewis in the biopic The Joker Is Wild (1957), which is particularly interesting given the rumors about Sinatra's mob ties.

@@AMP88LP are you high?
You're both a crappy historian and person
@@AMP88LPnah, the mafia have no real power outside of threatening people with their thuggery. Anyone can do that.

Where's Al Capone assassination from the Hit man Sylphalis?
Silvatore "The Drip" Phallis.
2:38 Riggi wasn't an associate he was the boss of the Decavalcante family. 20:58 and Gotti was an acting captain for the Gambino's at the time.
Also, Anastasia wasn't the reason for the American Mafia... That would be Charlie Lucky.

They say that he dressed very well-which is apparent here-he must of been on the lam, as he was unshaven, but was always very careful about his appearance.
The guy next to him must have some conscious left, as he was very upset. Stauss-nope-murder was his profession.
I didn't know that scene in Good Fellas was based on a real story!!!
Yea, Billy Batts was a good friend of Gotti. Gotti was fucking pissed.

Philly boss Angelo Bruno.

Those mob guys are over rated
You really lost your chance to say the Chickenman ran afoul
thought that was neil diamond
Buggsy Goldstein and Pittsburg Phil-on the way to the death house at Sing Sing.
They all slept with the fishes. 🎉
I wonder if all of them knew where Jimmy Hoffa was and none of them never said anything 💁🏿
Dino Bravo... Kind of surprising to see a wrestler on this list but then again the mob target anyone these days
He was in the Canadian mob
Dude was involved in the mob after his wrestling career was done.
These days? It was over 30 years ago.
He was allegedly involved with the Montreal Family, his uncle was a made member I believe. Dino was sort of an associate. He was involved with Cigarette Smuggling. One of the deals went bad and the mob lost alot of money.
No Jimmy Hoffa? I suppose his fate isn't definitive, but it seems pretty clear. I thought he'd be number one.

22:42 they do not exist because of Albert they exist cause of lucky
I think it's a bit of a matter of semantics. The modern Mafia with the commission exists because of Luciano. The Mafia itself existed pre Luciano
