Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop never getting nominated for Gilmore Girls is kind of a crime. They had the critics and media and buzz on her side most years. While ‘Gilmore’ was very indicative of what voters were going for in the comedy categories at the time. They clearly kept snubbing them simply because the show was on the WB/CW.
Agreed, and the same goes for Buffy, which had the added hurtle of being not just a WB but also a sci-fi show. But you watch the episode "The Body" and tell me she didn't deserve an Emmy for her performance.
@@jakelover1731 Yeah, ‘Buffy’ had a lot of hurdles: being on the WB/UPN, being considered a “teen show”, being a genre show, and its campy title. But the complete snubbing of ‘Gilmore girls’ really highlighted how much bias voters had against those networks, because otherwise it perfectly fit the type of show they would embrace at that time period. At least ‘Buffy’ got one writing nomination, which is more than anything those networks have seen.
A few things in the video regarding Phylicia Rashad are incorrect. Short version: @ 4:06 - She has two Tony wins, not three. @ 5:16 & 5:35 - Although she’s been nominated for six Emmys, she has yet to win. 4:06 - She has two Tony wins, not three. Rashad has four total nominations, winning in 2004 [Lead Actress in a Play: “A Raisin in the Sun”] and 2022 [Featured Actress in a Play: “The Skeleton Crew”]. In 2005, she was nominated for Lead Actress in a Play for “Gem of the Ocean.” The winner was Cherry Jones for “Doubt,” and the other nominees were Laura Linney in “Sight Unseen,” Mary-Louise Parker in “Reckless,” and Kathleen Turner in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Her fourth nomination was earlier this year at the 2024 Tonys in Best Revival of a Play for “Purlie Victorious” (her first show to produce on Broadway). The winner was “Appropriate,” and the other nominee was “An Enemy of the People.” 5:16 - She was nominated at the 2008 Emmys in Lead Actress in a Miniseries or TV-Movie for “A Raisin in the Sun,” but the winner was Laura Linney for “John Adams.” The other nominees were Judi Dench for “Cranford,” Catherine Keener for “An American Crime,” and Susan Sarandon for “Bernard and Doris.” 5:35 - She received Guest Actress in a Drama Series Emmy nominations for each of the “This is Us” seasons in which she appeared, but lost all three: For season 3 in 2019 [ep 13: ‘Our Little Island Girl’], she lost to Cherry Jones for “The Handmaid’s Tale” season 2b [ep 11: ‘Holly’]. For season 4 in 2020 [ep 4: ‘Flip a Coin’], she lost to Cherry Jones for “Succession” season 2 [ep 5: ‘Tern Haven’]. For season 5 in 2021 [ep 10: ‘I’ve Got This’], she lost to Claire Foy for “The Crown” season 4 [ep 8 - ‘48:1’]. I would have ranked her performances in “This is Us” seasons 3 and 5 over the eventual winners. She was deserving of a win for “A Raisin in the Sun,” but so were the other four nominees (seriously, that category’s best group of nominees came in 2008, and all five should have tied). She truly should have won for her work on the first season of “The Cosby Show” at the Emmys of 1985, which is when the show won Outstanding Comedy Series, Comedy Writing, and Comedy Directing. Always great seeing her highlighted in videos like these, esp if it gets her enough votes next time to get her the win. With wins last week for Sandra Oh (after 13 losses) and Angela Bassett (after 8 losses), I’m hopeful Ms. Rashad can make the 7th time the charm.
I still can't get over the fact that Calista Flockhart never won an Emmy for "Ally McBeal", especially in 1999 when she lost to Patricia Heaton. That just floored me. Absolutely floored me.
…I’ve always loved the cast and characters of Designing Women. I must say how Dixie Carter played Julia Sugarbaker was just sublime specially on her monologues yet not a nomination at all.
I last year, found out that Elizabeth Montgomery did not receive a Emmy, for Bewitched. She was certainly a very good actress in comedy and drama. I believe that actresses and actors who are so good in there roles and don't get that major statue, may have to do with jealousy or dislike. What a shame, she was a fine actress.
I had to pause so I could fact-check on Wikipedia that Marla Gibbs never won and Emmy. It is true and I am stunned. Most sitcoms made me smile but Marla Gibbs in The Jeffersons and 227 made me laugh. Love ya Miss Marla❤
A someone who was a kid in the 80's and 90's and watched a whole lot of sitcom reruns, I'm honestly shocked that Phylicia Rashad, Courtney Cox, and Elizabeth Montgomery never won Emmys for their iconic performances. Also, I wish their was a go-to place that celebrated the history and greatness of classic Television the same way the Criterion Collection now or TCM back in the day celebrated and preserved the best of movies.
The original One Day at a Time will always be special to me. My mom and I watched together growing up. She died of cancer when I was 18. I wanted to be Valerie Bertinelli and we also lived in Indianapolis. ❤
Emmys are tougher to tackle than the Oscars. Although I would have loved some clips of the greatest moments of those performances - especially for those unfamiliar with the shows - I enjoyed the video, thanks! Side note: Louis, I want to thank you for showing the Oscar snubs clip from The Importance of Being Earnest. I never saw the movie, and I plan to soon - but any chance I can say “a handbag!!!” I take advantage of the moment - it brightens my day and I have you to thank.
This may be one of my favorite episodes yet! And I don't care Ira insulting Fx's D!rt, the first season was perfection and just the mention is a win for me.
Come on, seriously? Lisa Kudrow got her due for Friends. The 6 worst Emmy snubs in history are: -Hugh Laurie for House M.D. -Jason Alexander for Seinfeld -Elizabeth Montgomery for Bewitched -Angela Lansbury for Murder, She Wrote -Jackie Gleason for The Honeymooners -Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul
I loved that show. She also did the movie Little and casted Regina Hall (hilarious as always). I loved when she imagined throwing a paint night painting over a woman’s head and said “welcome to LA, bitch!” I felt like doing that myself to some mean girls. 😅 I did think she’d be better off with the other guy though. Their lifestyles were very similar and he was very supportive. Just having a mental illness doesn’t disqualify you from having a living relationship
In my opinion, there have never been any greater snubs in this category than...Blair Brown in The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd and all four of the original Designing Women actresses (Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts, & Jean Smart). Blair was nominated season after season and absolutely should have won/could have won for ANY episode of the series' 5-year run (1 season on NBC + 4 more on Lifetime), but in particular for the final 3 seasons. Of the four DW actresses, only Delta Burke received a nomination--for the episode, "They Shoot Fat Women, Don't They?"--and it was nothing short of criminal that she didn't win for that hilarious and heartbreaking performance. The other three ladies also gave stellar performances; particularly Dixie and Jean (just check out Jean's performance in the episode "How Great Thou Art"; I dare you not to shed a tear!) Thank God Jean has finally gotten her much-deserved and long-overdue flowers for her outstanding work on Hacks. I've no doubt that any/all of these ladies would have/could have won had they not been starring in their respective roles during the era of The Golden Girls and Murphy Brown. All of the GG actresses and Candice Bergen certainly earned their Emmy awards, but it was a shame that their wins came at the expense of these other brilliant actresses. As for Kirstie Alley in Cheers? Nope. The trophy should have gone to one of the aforementioned ladies.
Great list. One Best Actress/Supporting Actress snub I would add is Julia Duffy in "Newhart." While she was nominated a few times, she never won, yet her total immersion in the role of Stephanie Vanderkellen was both breathtaking and absolutely hilarious. Same goes for Peter Scolari as equally self-absorbed Michael Harris. Why neither of them was ever recognized at the Emmys is a mystery to me.
It's because, as funny as she was, it's basically a one note character. She never has an arch to her character I would compare her to Peter Boyle in Everybody Loves Raymond, nice one liners, but no depth, that's why she never won
I have always thought the the Emmy's need to have a separate Acting category for Best ensemble comedy cast and ensemble drama cast. There are so many shows like MASH, Golden Girls, Designing Women, Cheers, Friends, Orange Is The New Black, Succession, West Wing, Game of Thrones etc. Where there is no one Lead of the show and that all the characters, work on the same level and are integral to the success of the show. This way all the actors of the cast would be recognized for their work.
Elizabeth Montgomery (1933-1995) was TV's most versatile actress; moving effortlessly from comedy to dire, serious drama. She received nine nominations throughout her career. The fact that Montgomery never won is why I never watch the Emmy's. Montgomery had more diverse and natural talents than anyone else in the room.
@5:32 - I heard 2009, but This Is Us was not on in 2009. Also, Phylicia Rashad did not win the Guest Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her role on This Is Us - she received nominations in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Yep! Elizabeth Montgomery should have one at least one Emmy!! She was an absolutely amazing actress and so beautiful! To this day, I will still watch Bewitched just to see her! She was so genuine on that show. And she was such a great role model for girls growing up. She was intelligent and stood up for herself and always seemed in control, even if her husband didn't realize it!
I’m a little confused by the title of this video. I assumed it was about Actresses who never got nominated despite clearly doing work that deserved it. You do have Courtney Cox on here as an example but many others who had plenty of nominations but didn’t win (at least the work was noticed). If we are looking at actresses who did phenomenal work but never got nominated, I’ll throw my pick in here: Lauren Graham - Gilmore Girls (2000-2007) Her performances throughout were top notch and I have heard that it’s kind of infamous in the industry that she never got a few nominations at bare minimum, and likely deserved at least one win. Clearly the view of the WB wasn’t high. A real shame even now all of these years later.
Calista Flockhart never winning an Emmy for her iconic role as Ally McBeal (and getting consistently beaten by the way overrated Helen Hunt in Mad About You) is a crime against humanity.
Helen Hunt winning a crime? Well, anyways, Flockhart probably should have won once. I watched Mad About You and Ally McBeal a liitle but never got hooked on either.
I love this episode and you're right, all of those women deserve their trophies. A couple of notes though: Carol Kane played Simka on Taxi, not minka, and she should have been nominated for a best supporting actress Emmy as opposed to a best actress, because that seemed to be more her role. That's just my two cents.
She was nominated for Supporting and won in 1983, Taxi's last year She DID win Lead Actress the year before for a Guest Turn Since there were no Guest Acting Categories until 1988, a lot of times, especially in the early 80's, a one time performance would get nominated and in her case, she won And the next year she was a regular cast member and won for Supporting
Ira!! Cougar Town was genius! It became so much more, such an introspective and heartwarming ensemble as opposed to middle age lady f***s that it started out as in the pilot. I was fortunate to talk to Bill Lawrence and the great Ken Jenkins on a fan video chat during the last two seasons CT. They were the nicest, most down to earth gentleman. ❤🎉 Many aren't even AWARE of the show. The writing, acting were amazing. #deadbabytacos #deadbabylasagna I
Louis I love your videos almost as much as your beautiful face. Thank you for being informative and entertaining. Nothing but admiration and respect brother ❤
When I was a kid, I wanted to have Montgomery as my mother. Strangely enough, my mother and Liz were the same age and died within a month of each other from cancer.
Brett Butler should’ve been nominated for the first season of Grace Under Fire. Neither Cindy Williams, or Penny Marshall we’re ever nominated for Laverne and Shirley.
Yo, this video was vibes-Lisa Kudrow totally deserved more love at the Emmys! Like, her comeback? 🐐💯 Also, y’all forgot to mention how iconic that “I got it” gif was 😂
Thank you. Let's us not forget Phyicia R also starred in Cosby for four seasons from 1996-2000. a. Cosby was another sitcom. b. Is there any award for surviving a monster? c. She had the opportunity to work with the iconic Madeline Kahn.
This really is a "participation trophy" age. Grow up, people. It's not a "snub," any more than awards automatically go to the most deserving. When presenters stopped saying "The winner is..." and started saying "The [award] goes to..." it really underlined the arbitrary nature of the whole process. Awards don't even help the winners' careers as you'd think they would.
Amy Poehler for Parks and rec? hello? one of the most egregious Emmy snubs of recent times, at least the Golden globes got it right and awarded her in 2013 also Rachel Bloom for Crazy ex-girlfriend, not only a comedy but also a musical, but just like Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy, wasn't taken seriously for being in a network like the CW
Some will take issue with this, but I think that it’s an absolute CRIME that Kaley Cuoco was never even *nominated* (let alone ever a winner) for Lead Actress in a Comedy for “The Big Bang Theory.” How can that possibly be? She was the sole female character on that show for several seasons, and she made it work. Very, very underrated. (And that’s before we even get to the crime of Simon Helberg not ever even being nominated, either, for his iconic performance for 12 seasons as Howard Wolowicz on that same show. For some reason, Emmy voters only went for Jim Parsons, who is *completely* overrated.)
"The Comeback" LK achieves a brilliant balance ... it makes fun of everything and takes it all seriously enough to be moving and deeply perplexing... too smart for TV. "Romy and Michelle" in my top ten
Lisa Kudrow is for people who don’t really know her underestimated. She is so funny and talented beyond anything, but also like mini actors and great people extremely intelligent, I think there’s a very deep intelligence there, people measure the different ways, but she is just so quick and just a real class act
Wow, I’m so uncultured lol I did not know all that about Felicia Rashad, I didn’t know about her body of work after… And before the car service, it’s really great to know that she does so much more because she was such a memorable person, on the Cosby show seen Steeler
Were Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle nominated for Pen15? I feel like they should have both tied and won one of the two years of their show. Regina Hall- Black Monday Also, the whole cast of Search Party.
Ira Madison III is quite snarky, but he got it all wrong about Phylicia Rashad, she has NEVER WON an Emmy. She lost for Raisin in the Sun to Laura Linney for John Adams, the three noms for This is us she lost to Cherry Jones for The Handmaid's Tale, again to Cherry Jones, but this time for Succession, and to Claire Foy for The Crown.
Ellen DeGeneres should’ve won in 1997 which was the season of her coming out episode. Many people thought that she was going to win that you’re even Helen Hunt, who won the Emmy that year was surprise she didn’t win. Marlo Thomas was nominated numerous times for That Girl and never won. Diane Carol for Julia. She was nominated a couple of times for best actress. She should’ve won because of her breakthrough role.
As for Courteney Cox. I think that she faced an unwinnable numbers game. Too much competition not just against her co-stars but with other contenders on shows with more critical acclaim and that were seen as more trendy. Plus Monica could come across as shrill and annoying. Kudrow benefitted from being a truly supporting character.
Ok what am I missing? You displayed the 1982 season as the ONLY year Bonnie Franklin got nominated for One Day At a Time ... and her name is not even on THAT nomination list when Carol Kane won for Taxi. Other nominees were Nell Carter, Swoozie Kurtz, Charlotte Rae, Isabel Sanford for Gimme a Break, Love Sydney, Facts of Life, The Jeffersons, respectively. anyways I was 9 years old when I first started watching One Day at a Time. I had two older brothers and we lived with recently divorced single mom in a 2 bedroom apartment/condo with a basement. It was the first time I got hooked on a prime time tv show from the debut episode (and not a rerun ... I'm sure I was already a fan of Bewitched ... I thought Elizabeth Montgomery won once(?) too...). ODAATime helped me realize The Brady Bunch was not very realistic (reruns again). One Day at a Time was an educational sitcom experience. I watched religiously until I was 14 or so and I began to lose interest. I remember people not liking it was kind of becoming the Pat Harrington show.
@@kd17Burger Despite what the video Does Not show at the 9:06 mark: Carol Kane Taxi* Nel Carter Gimme a Break! Swoozie Kurts Love, Sydney Charlotte Rae Facts of Life Isabel Sanford The Jeffersons (where is Bonnie Franklin?) Unlike, during the Phylicia Rashad segment (for example) when she was nominated and did not win for the 1985 and 1986 seasons of The Cosby Show ALL the nominees and the winners are listed as seen at the 5:06 mark. Anyways the video made an odd good telling us Franklin was nominated in 1982 -- which is true -- and then not listing Franklin with the other nominees and winner.
At the 2014 Emmys, Julia Roberts was so sure she was going to win that she stood up before Kathy Bates' name was announced as the winner. Ha ha ha. Ditto for Donald Trump, who stood up in another year for The Apprentice before the real winner was announced. I'd sure love to see those clips
Lauren Graham should have won for Gilmore girls. A true robbery. Also, I just found out that Sofia Vergara never won a supporting actress trophy for Modern Family. Sofia Vergara was Modern Family. I don’t who was voting for Julie Bowen over Sofia Vergara.
Courtney kinda suffered from being a bit in the middle. She wasn’t quite as much of a lead as Aniston, and she wasn’t as clearly supporting as Kudrow. When all the Friends were still submitting supporting, Courtney getting nods for seasons 3 or 4 or 5 wouldn’t have been undeserved. I would have liked her to be nominated for 9 or 10 when they were all going lead, just because it’s unfortunate that she was the only cast member to not get a nomination.
You say you are an Emmy Voter and you obviously have love for TV and the Emmys, YET you fail to know that Ms Rashad HAS NEVER WON AN EMMY Thats a little wonky
Random fun fact nobody cares about so I guess it’s really just a random fact, but I was in an episode of Passions. Add one line: “who do you want me to be?”
When someone who doesn’t know “big” words, uses “big” words. I am sure he’s a nice person but, yikes, get another sidekick. This dude is embarrassing himself.
Carol Kane's character on Taxi was named "Simka Gravas" not "Minka". Who's Minka? This channel is really going downhill. This ain't Only Fans, gurls. You gotta pull yourselves together.
Thanks for including Elizabeth Montgomery, she is a legend and should have won as well as Agnes Moorehead for Bewitched!
Agnes Morehead and Marion Lorne were the reasons I loved Bewitched.

Preach! One of the best words spoken by two incredible actresses in their respective tones. I hope everyone treats you with kindness and respect ❤
Marla Gibbs stole the show from her first appearance on "The Jeffersons"- her Emmy-less status is hard to take, ditto Elizabeth Montgomery.

She was nominated for Supporting and won in 1983, Taxi's last year
She DID win Lead Actress the year before for a Guest Turn
Since there were no Guest Acting Categories until 1988, a lot of times, especially in the early 80's, a one time performance would get nominated and in her case, she won
And the next year she was a regular cast member and won for Supporting
#deadbabytacos #deadbabylasagna
I
Louis I love your videos almost as much as your beautiful face.
Marla Gibbs also plays Jackee Harry's mother on Days of our lives as well!
Justine Bateman Family Ties was grossly and unfairly underrated
Yo, this video was vibes-Lisa Kudrow totally deserved more love at the Emmys! Like, her comeback? 🐐💯 Also, y’all forgot to mention how iconic that “I got it” gif was 😂
Courtney Cox should have been nominated for season 9 of Friends. She had a lot of great stuff that season.
All the major actors/actresses on Friends equally deserve nominations, not just Courtney Cox as they made the show successful, not just Courtney
@@juicyfruit4378 Agreed, however, Cox is the only one who didn't receive a nomination. IMOP they should have each won one.
Tichina Arnold never being nominated and winning an Emmy for Everybody Hates Chris is criminal
Amy Poehler for Parks and rec? hello? one of the most egregious Emmy snubs of recent times, at least the Golden globes got it right and awarded her in 2013
also Rachel Bloom for Crazy ex-girlfriend, not only a comedy but also a musical, but just like Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy, wasn't taken seriously for being in a network like the CW
Yes for AP! Snubbed in this video too. Meanwhile JLD kept getting all the wins 🤦♂️
Drama category must include Farrah Fawcett for "The Burning Bed:
Regina Hall- Black Monday
Also, the whole cast of Search Party.
Because of Louis Virtel… #InstantSubscribe #Woof
Felicia Rashad being Debbie Allen's sister makes so much sense
Ellen DeGeneres should’ve won in 1997 which was the season of her coming out episode. Many people thought that she was going to win that you’re even Helen Hunt, who won the Emmy that year was surprise she didn’t win.
Marlo Thomas was nominated numerous times for That Girl and never won.
Diane Carol for Julia. She was nominated a couple of times for best actress. She should’ve won because of her breakthrough role.
Phylicia never won an Emmy actually, and that’s tragic.
Other nominees were Nell Carter, Swoozie Kurtz, Charlotte Rae, Isabel Sanford for Gimme a Break, Love Sydney, Facts of Life, The Jeffersons, respectively.
anyways
I was 9 years old when I first started watching One Day at a Time.
She was nominated that year
@@kd17Burger Despite what the video Does Not show at the 9:06 mark:
Carol Kane Taxi*
Nel Carter Gimme a Break!
Swoozie Kurts Love, Sydney
Charlotte Rae Facts of Life
Isabel Sanford The Jeffersons
(where is Bonnie Franklin?)
Unlike,
during the Phylicia Rashad segment (for example) when she was nominated and did not win for the 1985 and 1986 seasons of The Cosby Show ALL the nominees and the winners are listed as seen at the 5:06 mark.
Lisa Kudrow should absolutely have won for the comeback. such a robbery
Phylicia Rashad Has won 2 Tony Awards but never an Emmy
Lauren Graham should have won for Gilmore girls. A true robbery.
Also, I just found out that Sofia Vergara never won a supporting actress trophy for Modern Family. Sofia Vergara was Modern Family. I don’t who was voting for Julie Bowen over Sofia Vergara.
What is it with Millenials that they have to trash "Friends" constantly?
I'm not a millennial and I think it's highly overrated
Lisa Kudrow is really good in Time Bandits.
hmm. Sarah Michelle Gellar had some amazing acting moments in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (as did her costar Alyson Hannigan).
Louis you are brilliant, funny as hell and oh so adorable. Marry me. Signed - a fit family doctor who's a great cook.
Phylicia Rashad hasn't won an Emmy yet. Many nominations over various decades and different shows, but no wins.
The proper plural is "Dicks York and Sargent."
Sadly Rashad still has not won an Emmy. She lost her bids for Raisin in the Sun and This is Us.
She has 2 Tony Awards to make up for it lol
Watching Friends if it’s on when you’re at a white person’s house is so vivid and such a vibe!😂
Don’t knock friends. it’s better than you are
Good luck tomorrow!
You say you are an Emmy Voter and you obviously have love for TV and the Emmys, YET you fail to know that Ms Rashad HAS NEVER WON AN EMMY
Thats a little wonky
Poetically gifted? What the hell does that even mean? You just love to hear yourself talk.
If there’s a God in heaven Louis better win.
Random fun fact nobody cares about so I guess it’s really just a random fact, but I was in an episode of Passions. Add one line: “who do you want me to be?”
Need to work on sound
Whaaaaat?
Ross was whacky and I, too, don't care about Friends.
Bagpipes scene, one of 1000
Sadly phyllia Rasyad never won any emmy
My So Called Life, et al
❤
Louis your guns are looking good!
Your eyes are looking a bit tired
(4:08) "... tons of other awards and acolytes... " -- acolytes?!? 🤔
When someone who doesn’t know “big” words, uses “big” words. I am sure he’s a nice person but, yikes, get another sidekick. This dude is embarrassing himself.
L&s robbed!
Carol Kane's character on Taxi was named "Simka Gravas" not "Minka". Who's Minka? This channel is really going downhill. This ain't Only Fans, gurls. You gotta pull yourselves together.
damn people can’t make innocent mistakes anymore??
@@meganpatsel I'm just kidding, of course. :)
The Emmy noms were definitely different then. I might be wrong but the year Kane won for Taxi, I believe she was only in two episodes that year.
Phylicia Rashad has never won an Emmy - if y’all are gonna be scions of pop culture ya gotta get things right - like it’s on IMDb …
You guys are ridiculously exaggerated. You guys aren't wrong with some of these. However, you guys to lose the melodrama, walking sterotypes,
You say Bonnie Franklin was nominated in 1982, but her name's not on the list.
Who you calling white♊️🌈❤️🇺🇸
ODAAT was a TERRIBLE show.
I tried to enjoy this video but Ira Madison's constant racial commentary for everything is just annoying. "A white people house watching Friends"??
As a white person, I must say there are much worse things we could rightly be called out for than watching too much "Friends"
