We can't know what the people thought for sure, because polling was way worse than it is now (imagine), and very few states had popular voting. Those that did, severely restricted who was allowed to vote. In the case of John Quincy Adams, yea, the people were way more convinced by Jackson and his Democrats than by John Quincy Adams and his lack of skill with political parties... which seems to run in the family

Madison wouldn't even establish judicial review until 2 years after Adams was out of office
As a many times down the line desendent of John Quincy, I am pleased with your rendering of his life and work in the building of our nation.He deserves to be brought forward for his bulldogged work for African Americans.Our country is in troubled times on so many levels. I had learned so much with this documentary. I am also a virgina native, so growing up we were taught about Tomas Jefferson and they built him up to be this great man. Imo John Quincy had a more moral compass, intelligence and the "it" I believe an American president should have!
Generally, over the years, I've grown to favor term limits for American politicians; but JQ Adams remind me that there are a handful of politicians who truly devote themselves to the good of the nation and not personal aggrandizement. Note: My father taught US history for decades, and his favorite person was John Quincy Adams!

Really great. Normally boxed up as one of the "forgettable" presidents, until you realized he represented the United States through most of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, added two different states to the Union, hand a hand in setting diplomatic treaties that set the boundaries of not just the future United States but the Northern Hemisphere, set the precedent of the government being involved in large-scale public works projects, etc. You also get a sense of just how acrimonious our politics have always been, regardless of the age.
Been a long time fan of the channel. Just went to All Hallows by The Tower church after visiting the Tower of London. Looking forward to watching this later 🙂

There is a new 2A law they passed in response to some of the Supreme Court rulings that is precisely the type of nonsense that exemplifies the government boot on the back of our necks. It’s blatantly unconstitutional. This place loves to stomp all over our rights and let the losers back out on the street over and over and over again. Be a loser, get away with murder. Sometimes literally. But be a good law abiding citizen, and some activist judge will make you their pet project fixation to make an example of and set a tone for how they rule things on the bench. I’ve seen it more and more lately.

You did a lot of US presidents, but not one of Teddy Roosevelt who in my opinion is one of the most fascinating presidents, and even a fascinating human being who had a very eventful and full life. Whoops! I began this documentary then fell asleep until just before the end. I'll watch it later to see if you missed anything. I read a bio on JQA titled "The President Who Wouldn't Quit". Like his father, John Adams, JQA was respected but not liked by either his friends, Congress, the American people or his foes. Another excellent book is "John Adams" by David McCullough from which a 2 part docudrama was based. In the movie Armastad he is portrayed by the actor Anthony Hopkins who does a good job. I don't know if you mentioned this. My family came from the Boston area and in fact one of my line's first cousins married John Adam's mother after his father died. There is only a brief mention of this because instead of a romantic marriages it was a way widows and widowers could survive before social security and not be a burden on their children who often raised very large families.
I’m his direct descendant. My grandmother is Joan Quincy adams, daughter of Joseph Quincy Adams. She told me when I was young but I’ve never researched him until now.
I have read a lot of history about the two generations of the Adams family in our country. John Adams I feel was wrongly perceived by the American voters, perhaps because he could not compromise enough to reach the level of understanding of much of the less-educated general public. JQ Adams however still remains a mystery to me. I'm always left with the feeling that he could have done much more, but in maneuvering between issues to achieve compromise and consensus, he left himself vulnerable to criticism from both sides. Ultimately, his resume of accomplishments was very lengthy, but he suffered personally for everything he achieved. Neither of the two men would survive the political landscape in America today, I'm sure of that.
JQA and Herbert Hoover were probably our most technically intelligent presidents. they didn't really sell themselves as much as much as just solve problems. JQA had all the experience, and probably thought nobody could beat, or replace him, as he was the consummate diplomat. Herbert Hoover learned that you could solve any problem if you had a plan and tackled it well. Both didn't really understand that people can turn on you. Having said that, Jackson was not a bad president. In the case of Hoover, people blamed him, but he never failed. until he did. he did a lot of good. then like mother nature...economics.... fluctuated. a no win scenario. but, I'm just a guy. and these are my observations. probably very narrow view here. carry on.

The conflict and war was inevitable from 1776 onward. Only monetary emancipation could have prevented it but convincing the South of this course was impossible socially..
It would be helpful if you did a video on the switch in beliefs between the Republican and Democratic Parties. It is frustrating to have poorly informed people state events prior to the parties flipping in the 1960's as present day Democratic actions.
It is very strange how that happened. I suspect it was post civil war, and they were aggressively looking to gain more constituents. overdid it I guess?
It would be way to divisive a subject right now in my opinion. Even if it would be incredibly interesting to see these guys make a video on that topic. This channel has done a really great job at being objective and informative without becoming openly political sided in one way or another. Making a video like that would inevitably show some political bias from the view of the too sensitive and uninformed. Even just honest facts on the subject would cause some to loose their collective minds. I’m sure the creators who run this channel wouldn’t want to deal with that in the middle of a time such as this. I don’t even blame them in all honesty.

@@tmc6799 it should be. And a lot of the audience here is surely mature enough to handle it and would get a lot of useful information too. I just think so many people are so short sighted and unwilling to see the truth currently that -like usual, a few would ruin it for the many and they would try and cause the channel some big problems when the facts start flying. Even though it was a long time ago, it’s almost even more relevant today than back then in some ways. Especially those who get all their information scrolling on various apps with an aim for holding your attention for 30 seconds per clip. They are wholly unwilling to accept the truth if they don’t like the sound of it and if it doesn’t fit whatever current narrative they are spewing at that moment. I believe a lot would be in denial that the party switch even happened in the first place and loose their collective minds. They frequently make things up and act as if they have some insight into the years before they were even born. Screaming louder in their minds, means they won some argument. Most of the people who would defend “the party” won’t even admit nor acknowledge that the democrats were the ones who were the party of the kkk and advocating for keeping slavery by and large. Just for some smaller examples. The idea of “mal-information” or whatever term they slap on “facts I don’t like” is thick in the minds of the weak minded cult members. If they even watched the videos on some of the more controversial people and topics like you mentioned, it’s far away to them and wouldn’t even consider that the past is what what landed them in their present today and it would benefit them greatly to learn as much as they can about the past. They would more than likely chalk it up to “far right extremists” anyways. Not that we should pander to such behavior and potential reaction anyways. So maybe you are right. Maybe the channel should make a video on the party switch now that I’m thinking and discussing it.
I'm not aware of anyone claiming Lincoln was a Democrat. After Garfield's short time in office, neither party did much for civil rights of black Americans until well into the 20th Century. And then we know how that turned out as Nixon's Southern Strategy brought him and the GOP far-reaching control of the Southern US.
The US declared the war in hope of territorial gains. And they failed -- that is lost. Britain kept their territories, and Washington DC burned to the ground. Britain was a democracy at the time, making Obama's claim that the US never declared war on a democratic country false.
Yes, because only white upper class students should ever receive the best education. Have to save room for the very privileged and carry on the legacy admissions. But to be honest, I think most students would do just as well in the top public universities that understand diversity of the student body benefits everyone, inside and out of the schools.Too bad it only frightens you.

Especially those who get all their information scrolling on various apps with an aim for holding your attention for 30 seconds per clip. I believe a lot would be in denial that the party switch even happened in the first place and loose their collective minds. They frequently make things up and act as if they have some insight into the years before they were even born. Screaming louder in their minds, means they won some argument. Most of the people who would defend “the party” won’t even admit nor acknowledge that the democrats were the ones who were the party of the kkk and advocating for keeping slavery by and large. Just for some smaller examples. The idea of “mal-information” or whatever term they slap on “facts I don’t like” is thick in the minds of the weak minded cult members. If they even watched the videos on some of the more controversial people and topics like you mentioned, it’s far away to them and wouldn’t even consider that the past is what what landed them in their present today and it would benefit them greatly to learn as much as they can about the past. They would more than likely chalk it up to “far right extremists” anyways. Not that we should pander to such behavior and potential reaction anyways. So maybe you are right. Maybe the channel should make a video on the party switch now that I’m thinking and discussing it.
I'm not aware of anyone claiming Lincoln was a Democrat. After Garfield's short time in office, neither party did much for civil rights of black Americans until well into the 20th Century.
