I worked in Uganda for a while, and I have to say that the comments about hearing lions roaring at night struck home; we camped one night in Queen Elizabeth NP (in 3 person dome tents) and had lions moving through our camp all night. Most terrifying night of my life. I think there is something about that roar that our brains are hard wired to fear in a way I’ve never felt. Your safari drive was perfect; it wouldn’t be a drive in Africa without something breaking or getting stuck! Hope you get a chance to go to Uganda or Rwanda some day and see the mountain gorillas and chimps in the wild! I love your videos, keep up the great work!
What never stops to amaze me is how can animals have their own natural habit , live together in that animal kingdom and keep within that territory without migrating to the peoples kingdom! It’s just amazing
When I camped in the Mara in 1988. We had a pride of lioness and their cubs (18-24 adults/12-18 young) come through our camp just after we zipped up our tents at night. I was nearly knocked over by one, rubbing against my tent (and my cot, and left side of my body) as if scratching an itch, whilst my tent mate was a 93 year old man with emphysema, hacking away uncontrollably to my right, within the last few months of his life. After the chuffing quieted down for 5 minutes, a few of us poked our heads out and looked for our Maasai warriors that were guarding us. We found them in the mess tent with all the chairs huddled around them. The just kept saying " many lion, .....many lion. We saw the girls the next morning about half mile aways along a small tributary near the Mara river. Later, a 15 foot crocodile grabbed a zebra right next to our camp and it was all over in a minute. An hour later he was basking across the river from us, swollen from his 500 pound meal (at least).
I have been in Masai Mara twice in the last few years. Planning on living nearby part-time soon. One of my favorite wildlife reserves in the world . I love the place ❤️
Love❤love❤love❤this video!! Such an amazing adventure! I think I would have been scared eating outside of the vehicle, especially with the hyenas so close. Also glad that the lions didn’t get you while you were stuck!!
Bush toilet is not TMI! That's actually one thing that scares me about going on a safari - I have a tiny bladder and I'm worried that everyone will get annoyed at me for wanting pee breaks!
Wear a diaper 🤣 when I went on safari in Kenya, I took pee breaks behind truck, I get infection easily so I do what I need to do, guide made sure there were no dangerous animals around. Bring your own TP and bag for waste. Go to safari I promise you won’t regret
Oh dear of all the parks in Kenya this is the one I did not visit! I was based in Mombasa and it was just too hard to get to.. but next time I hope! Kenya was fantastic!
Great video and thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. BTW, those Toyota trucks they use in game drives are actually new trucks especially if they're operated by big reputable companies. For the Kenyan market, Toyota chose to stick with that old 90's design and never change it to the new Land cruiser trucks they sell here in America. Simple reason, they work and work well. So although the design maybe late 90s early 2000s, the logic is, if it ain't broken, why fix it. The tag number will give you a hint as to the year
Not for the Kenyan Market Only-These are 70 series designs which have been modified and dont come like that from showroom. The 70S SERIES ARE SOLD ALL OVER THE WORLD like in Asia, Australia and even SOUTH Africa-Not a Kenyan Thingy
Hi! I love your videos! They have helped me plan a few of my trips. I am going on safari for the first time next year. Is 2 nights (3-4 game drives) enough or would you suggest 3 nights (5-6 game drives)? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I'm so glad our videos have helped! I love safaris so much, I would always choose to do more. Plus you get more chances to see all of the Big 5!
Unfortunately we can only recommend January, as that's when we went. A quick Google search should be able to help you out with info on other times of year
the rains set in at around April and May however depending on the forecast there might be little rain plus the lodges and safari camps charge less during the April/May season you can take advantage of the low rates during that time
we can attest that January is a nice time to go, as that's when we went. We also know that around July is a popular time due to the great migration. A quick Google search will give you the best information about how Kenya is during each month of the year
We stayed at the Neptune Mara Rianta, and it was a little pricey. We thought that it would include game drives and it did not, so that was an added expense that we did not plan for. I do not know about other options as we only stayed on the one camp
Great video you two. I was wondering if you are going to do a video breaking down the cost of everything like you have done in the past? I thought a safari would have cost more, but i was surprised at the price you told us
Our Guides told us that the animals wont come into the jeep, They think of it as an object that is much larger than them, so as long as we stay in the vehicle we are safe. This is pretty common practice with safari drives

We would love to see Gorillas! That might be our next Africa Adventure

This got me laughing buddy! However, I wouldn't mind if you hooked me up with a job!
Exciting! 😅
Stay out of that blazing sun! Save your beautiful pale skin! You're setting yourself up for skin cancer.
Thanks for these videos, very useful tips. We fly out to Mara next week !
That was terrific, thanks

Why Akward Tourists you Both are Beautiful Tourists. Beautiful Video .
Absolutely awesome.

The lion groan can be heard within 3 kilometers radius. Karibu sana Kenya.
Thats crazy! No wonder it sounded so close
My birth country! Can’t wait to go back. I was in Namibia last year (check it out if you haven’t been)
We haven't been to Namibia yet, but we really want to go!
HI,ENJOY MASSAI MARA..
Hello, currently planning a trip to Masai Mara on safari. Do you have a vlog that shows the accommodations you stayed in while on safari?
Bush toilet is not TMI! That's actually one thing that scares me about going on a safari - I have a tiny bladder and I'm worried that everyone will get annoyed at me for wanting pee breaks!

Hi- what time of year was your trip? Trying to gauge how to dress for our August safari at the Maasai Mara.
Hi! We were there in January
Oh dear of all the parks in Kenya this is the one I did not visit! I was based in Mombasa and it was just too hard to get to.. but next time I hope! Kenya was fantastic!
We didn't visit any other parks, but this one was really awesome. Just the number of animals alone was worth the trip
Great video and thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing. BTW, those Toyota trucks they use in game drives are actually new trucks especially if they're operated by big reputable companies. That makes sense why they look like early 2000's trucks. Thanks for the info! They sure can go anywhere!

Explore Kenya guys 🇰🇪✌️
Great vlog.
Thank you!
Any suggestions to help with the bumpiness in the safari van?
Stay close to or in the park so the drive isn't as long. But it's still very bumpy
@@TheAwkwardTourists I’m going on tour so it’s wherever they go, I mean like should I bring a pillow
AWESOME VIDEO!!!
Thank You!

Would you recommend visit in May 1st week ?
Unfortunately we can only recommend January, as that's when we went. A quick Google search should be able to help you out with info on other times of year
Best time to visit the Mara is between July and September. That's when the magic happens.
the rains set in at around April and May however depending on the forecast there might be little rain plus the lodges and safari camps charge less during the April/May season you can take advantage of the low rates during that time
When is the best time of year to visit. We are thinking next year.

The link provided is to book the tour in this video?
I want to go there so bad. Does your hubby post his pics anywhere? How much does a trip to Kenya cost these days?
Where did you stay and if you could share about cost effective camps in Masai mara National park ?
We stayed at the Neptune Mara Rianta, and it was a little pricey. We thought that it would include game drives and it did not, so that was an added expense that we did not plan for. I do not know about other options as we only stayed on the one camp
@@TheAwkwardTourists thank you very much for replying. Thanks :)

We are planning on it. That video will be out after our next one
Is november a good time to visit?
best time is july-september and december-february
Hiya guys why is the jeep open. ? Isnt that dangerous ?
Our Guides told us that the animals wont come into the jeep, They think of it as an object that is much larger than them, so as long as we stay in the vehicle we are safe. This is pretty common practice with safari drives
@@TheAwkwardTourists wow 😁
Recevoir a Kenyan, avoir bien bon voyage,Je suis Zephrine Righa j'aime tu channel
My wife and I are thinking about starting a channel about our travels. I was wondering what you use to edit your videos?
We use Premiere pro, but imovie works great too
Thanks for pointing out that the park entry fees of $80 is steep, worth noting that the prices are getting hiked further up to $200 per person per day
What lens was used to take these photos…would a 200-500 do…. Thanks…you used a 100-400 lens
A Sigma E Mount for Sony 100-400mm. I think you would be great with a 200 -500
Where is it in Kenya that when the cars stop the Cheetahs sometimes come and jump in and on top of the cars??? 😯😯😯
Maasai Mara
Both of y'all have matching hairline
So wasnt it a dangerous trip? And what about mosquitos with diseases or something?
No it wasn't dangerous. And we got vaccinations and took precautions for any insect-born illness
@@TheAwkwardTourists 👍 i got another question (sorry haha) how much would you be wasting money on a flight ticket to kenya per person?
9o
This seems to be more about you than the safari.
It's about our experience on the safari, as the rest of our channel is about our experiences in these places.
