  • Giant Pop-Up Constructions: Railway Underpass in 5 Hours | 4K Construction Documentary
    World’s Most Extreme Railway: • World’s Most Extreme R...
    The location: somewhere in India. The weather: steaming hot. Not your ideal preconditions for an outdoor project of impossible proportions: constructing a railway underpass in five hours. Is it even possible to build a complete railway underpass in that short amount of time? Provided 150 workers, six excavators, and two heavy-duty cranes, all work in perfect coordination and planning, it is.
    Everything must be meticulously prepared. Within these five hours, there is no time to reposition machines and tools. For two months, the construction plan and structural analysis were adapted and optimized based on the material properties. The clock is ticking. The Indian railway halts all train traffic at Bobbili station for five hours - not a minute more. The trains will not wait. If they do not manage to reconnect the tracks in time, the trains will derail.
    All construction teams work simultaneously: Team #1 removes all the gravel under the tracks, team two removes tracks and cuts through the two outer tracks. Then, the earth is dug out to make room for the underpass. Four tracks have to be laid. A distance of eight meters. Before the first train can roll again, everything has to be finished. Remember: we’re talking 40 degrees in the shade. Any mistake will quickly mean that construction workers will be injured or buried alive. They can easily get caught on the exposed 25-kilovolt power cables.
    A truly spectacular pop-up construction project under some of the most adverse conditions.

    Impressive accomplishment! However I despise such over-dramatic documentaries who repeat over and over again the already told just for the sake of dramatization and to get viewers involved who tuned in later or in an exaggerated attempt to correspond to the decreased attention span of modern viewers distracted by the advertising interruptions. Yet: thank you for the content itself and the amazing quality of picture and visualization!

    In the UK these days, this would have taken 5 years, been 5 million over budget and another 5 months over schedule. In the 1900's however such projects would run like clockwork, to the second. Have a look at a steam train refurbishment, 2 weeks to completely disassemble the entire train,every nut,bolt,washer and pipe inspected and replaced if necessary. Any worn or damaged parts would be machined true or a new part made. All the bodywork and chassis cleaned and painted. The painting and sign writing all done by hand took the second week.
    The train comes out practically new,ready for another 6000 miles service before the next overhaul. Amazing to watch.

      A total overhaul every 6,000 miles??? Surely it must be a bigger number like 600,000 miles, otherwise a locomotive could only cross the United States three times and it would already be overdue for a total overhaul!

    All that prep planning and the best workaround to deal with the gantry lines is to tie a rope around them and have 4 guys pulling on them while standing on a 50’ section of track suspended in the air? Seems easier to cut and reconnect.

    One wonders whether some kind of "tunneling" approach might be more effective in the longer run. The specialized machinery could be moved up or down the line to upgrade other crossings.

    • @daic7274
      @daic7274 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not in this time frame it wouldn't be, most TBM's would be way to big and expensive and not something that can fit on a lorry to move to the next site.
      TBM's also don't cut particularly fast,require a large amount of support equipment and take time to set up and remove. Then there is the issue of lining the tunnel, general only the big tbms have the capability to place concrete lining sections as they move along.
      This method they use is more efficient, I expect the entire project from start to finish would be done in a week...assuming what we saw at the end wasn't the finished job,in which case 2 days. A project using a TBM would most likely take 2 weeks from start to finish.

    • @GilmerJohn
      @GilmerJohn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@daic7274 -- I'm not speaking of a TBM machine that might go miles under an alpine mountain. Just something like a "shield" that is used in the London mud.

      @@GilmerJohn Cut & Cover is the preferred construction method for reducing cost and time. Considering Bobbli is bisected by multiple rail lines, they will need many of these under passes to prevent citizens from crossing the tracks.

    • @GK-ui8fv
      @GK-ui8fv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like a great idea as one would not need to be bothered with time pressure or even cost pressure as once the machine or technique is successful in one instance, then it can be used anywhere again and again

    The overused saying"Sleeping Giant" actually does apply to India. As they grow into the future economic and intellectual powerhouse they will become both America and China will find them hard to beat. Once these wonderful people catch the vision of all they can accomplish their poverty will end and their development will be the greatest in world history. These folks have a built-in personal guide that when they do something it will be honest, and real, unlike some others that fail to build on a foundation of fair dealing but with greed and dishonesty. This great nation is going to wake up and the world will never be the same? Nice video, good luck to the folks whose lives will be easier !!!
